1 Samuel 14

1 Un día Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, le dijo al joven escudero: “Vamos, crucemos a la guarnición filistea del otro lado”. Pero no le hizo saber a su padre acerca de sus planes.

Now it fell on a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who bore his armor, "Come, and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison, that is on the other side." But he did not tell his father.

2 Saúl se encontraba cerca de Guibeá, bajo un granado en Migrón. Tenía unos seiscientos hombres con él,

Saul stayed in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people who were with him were about six hundred men;

3 incluyendo a Ahija, que llevaba un efod. Era hijo del hermano de Icabod, Ahitob, hijo de Finees, hijo de Elí, sacerdote del Señor en Silo. Nadie se dio cuenta de que Jonatán se había ido.

and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of the LORD in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. The people did not know that Jonathan was gone.

4 A ambos lados del paso que Jonatán planeaba cruzar para llegar a la guarnición filistea se erigían dos acantilados, uno llamado Boses y el otro Sene.

Between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines' garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side, and a rocky crag on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5 El acantilado del norte estaba en el lado de Michmash, el del sur en el lado de Geba.

The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.

6 Jonatán le dijo al joven que llevaba la armadura: “Vamos, crucemos a la guarnición de estos hombres paganos. Tal vez el Señor nos ayude. Al Señor no le cuesta ganar, sea por muchos o por pocos”.

Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, "Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us; for there is no restraint on the LORD to save by many or by few."

7 “Tú decides qué hacer”, respondió el escudero. “¡Estoy contigo sin importar lo que decidas!”

His armor bearer said to him, "Do all that your heart inclines toward. Look, I am with you, my heart is as your heart."

8 “¡Vamos entonces!” dijo Jonathan. “Cruzaremos en su dirección para que nos vean.

Then Jonathan said, "Look, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.

9 Si nos dicen: ‘Esperen allí hasta que bajemos a ustedes’, esperaremos donde estamos y no subiremos a ellos.

If they say thus to us, 'Wait until we come to you.' then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up to them.

10 Pero si nos dicen: ‘Suban hacia nosotros’, subiremos, porque eso será la señal de que el Señor nos los ha entregado”.

But if they say this, 'Come up to us.' then we will go up; for the LORD has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us."

11 Así que ambos se dejaron ver por la guarnición filistea. “¡Mira!”, gritaron los filisteos. “Los hebreos están saliendo de los huecos donde se escondían”.

Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, "Look, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves."

12 Los hombres de la guarnición llamaron a Jonatán y a su escudero: “¡Suban aquí y les mostraremos un par de cosas!”. “Sígueme arriba”, dijo Jonatán a su escudero, “porque el Señor los ha entregado a Israel”.

The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer, and said, "Come up to us, and we will show you something." Jonathan said to his armor bearer, "Come up after me; for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel."

13 Así que Jonatán subió de manos y pies, con su escudero que iba justo detrás de él. Jonatán los atacó y los mató, y su escudero le siguió haciendo lo mismo.

Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armor bearer after him. And they fell before Jonathan; and his armor bearer killed them after him.

14 En este primer ataque, Jonatán y su escudero mataron a unos veinte hombres en un área de media hectárea.

That first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow's length in an acre of land.

15 Entonces los filisteos entraron en pánico, en el campamento, en el campo y en todo su ejército. Incluso los que estaban en los puestos de avanzada y los grupos de asaltantes se aterrorizaron. La tierra se estremeció. Era terror proveniente de Dios.

And there was a terror in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. The garrison and even the raiders were terrified. And the earth quaked, and it became a terror of God.

16 Los vigías de Saúl en Guibeá, en Benjamín, vieron cómo el ejército filisteo se desvanecía y se dispersaba en todas direcciones.

And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin saw, and look, the multitude was scattering here and there.

17 Saúl les dijo a los soldados que estaban con él: “Pasen lista y averigüen quiénes no están con nosotros”. Cuando pasaron lista, descubrieron que Jonatán y su escudero no estaban allí.

Then Saul said to the people who were with him, "Count now, and see who is missing from us." When they had counted, look, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.

18 Saúl le dijo a Ajías: “Trae el Arca de Dios aquí”. (En esa época el Arca de Dios viajaba con los israelitas).

And Saul said to Ahijah, "Bring near the ephod," for he wore the ephod at that time before Israel.

19 Pero mientras Saúl hablaba con el sacerdote, el alboroto que venía del campamento filisteo era cada vez más fuerte. Así que Saúl le dijo al sacerdote: “¡Olvídalo!”

And it happened, while Saul was speaking to the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said to the priest, "Withdraw your hand."

20 Entonces Saúl y todo su ejército se reunieron y entraron en batalla. Descubrieron que los filisteos estaban en total desorden, atacándose unos a otros con las espadas.

Saul and all the people who were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle: and look, every man's sword was against his fellow: a very great confusion.

21 Los hebreos que antes se habían puesto del lado de los filisteos, y que estaban con ellos en su campamento, cambiaron de bando y se unieron a los israelitas que estaban con Saúl y Jonatán.

Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines as before, and who went up with them into the camp, they too turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

22 Cuando todos los israelitas que se habían escondido en la región montañosa de Efraín se enteraron de que los filisteos estaban huyendo, también se unieron para perseguir a los filisteos y atacarlos.

Likewise all the men of Israel who had hidden themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed closely after them in the battle.

23 Ese día el Señor salvó a Israel, y la batalla se extendió más allá de Bet-aven.

So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle passed over by Beth Aven. And all the people with Saul were about ten thousand men. And the battle extended itself into every city in the hill country of Ephraim.

24 Aquel día fue difícil para los hombres de Israel porque Saúl había ordenado al ejército hacer un juramento, diciendo: “Maldito el que coma algo antes de la noche, antes de que me haya vengado de mis enemigos”. Así que nadie del ejército había comido nada.

And Saul committed a great blunder that day, for he had placed the people under an oath, saying, "Cursed is the man who eats any food until it is evening, and I am avenged of my enemies." So none of the people tasted food.

25 Cuando todos entraron en el bosque, encontraron panales de miel en el suelo.

All the people came into the forest; and there was honey on the ground.

26 Mientras estaban en el bosque, vieron que la miel se acababa, pero nadie la recogió para comerla porque todos tenían miedo del juramento que habían hecho.

When the people had come to the forest, look, a flow of honey, but no man would raise his hand to his mouth; for the people feared the oath.

27 Pero Jonatán no se había enterado de que su padre había ordenado al ejército hacer ese juramento. Así que metió la punta de su bastón en el panal, cogió un trozo para comer y se sintió mucho mejor.

But Jonathan did not hear when his father commanded the people with the oath, so he put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.

28 Pero uno de los soldados le dijo: “Tu padre hizo que el ejército hiciera un juramento solemne, diciendo: ‘¡Maldito el que coma algo hoy!’ Por eso los hombres están agotados”.

Then one of the people answered, and said, "Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, 'Cursed is the man who eats food this day.'" The people were faint.

29 “Mi padre nos ha causado un montón de problemas a todos”, respondió Jonatán. “Mira qué bien estoy porque he comido un poco de esta miel.

Then Jonathan said, "My father has troubled the land. Please look how my eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.

30 ¡Habría sido mucho mejor si el ejército hubiera comido hoy en abundancia del botín tomado a sus enemigos! ¿Cuántos filisteos más habrían matado?”

How much better if the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies when they found it, for the slaughter among the Philistines would have been greater."

31 Después de derrotar a los filisteos ese día, matándolos desde Micmas hasta Ajalón, los israelitas estaban totalmente agotados.

They struck of the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. The people were very faint;

32 Se apoderaron del botín, tomando ovejas, vacas y terneros, y los sacrificaron allí mismo en el suelo. Pero se los comieron con la sangre.

and the people pounced upon the spoil, and took sheep, and cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.

33 Entonces le dijeron a Saúl: “Mira, los hombres están pecando contra el Señor al comer carne con la sangre”. “¡Infractores de la ley!”, les dijo Saúl. “¡Tira una piedra grande aquí ahora mismo!”

Then they told Saul, saying, "Look, the people are sinning against the LORD, in that they eat meat with the blood." He said, "You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me this day."

34 Luego les dijo: “Recorran todo el lugar donde están los soldados y díganles, ‘Cada uno debe traerme su ganado o sus ovejas y sacrificarlos aquí, y luego comer. No pequen contra el Señor comiendo carne con sangre’”. Cada uno del ejército trajo lo que tenía y lo sacrificó allí aquella noche.

Saul said, "Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them, 'Bring me here every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat; and do not sin against the LORD in eating meat with the blood.'" All the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and killed them there.

35 Entonces Saúl construyó un altar al Señor. Este fue el primer altar que construyó al Señor.

Saul built an altar to the LORD. This was the first altar that he built to the LORD.

36 Saúl dijo: “Vamos a perseguir a los filisteos durante la noche y a saquearlos hasta el amanecer, sin dejar sobrevivientes”. “Haz lo que creas conveniente”, respondieron. Pero el sacerdote dijo: “Preguntémosle primero a Dios”.

Saul said, "Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them." They said, "Do whatever seems good to you." Then the priest said, "Let us draw near here to God."

37 Saúl preguntó a Dios: “¿Debo bajar y perseguir a los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás a Israel?” Pero ese día Dios no le respondió.

Saul asked counsel of God, "Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?" But he did not answer him that day.

38 Entonces Saúl dio la orden: “Todos los comandantes del ejército, vengan aquí para que podamos investigar qué pecado ha ocurrido hoy.

And Saul said, "Come here, all you leaders of the people; and investigate and see how this sin has arisen today.

39 ¡Juro por la vida del Señor que salva a Israel que, aunque sea mi hijo Jonatán, tendrá que morir!” Pero nadie en todo el ejército dijo nada.

For, as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

40 Saúl les dijo a todos: “Ustedes pónganse a un lado, y yo y mi hijo Jonatán nos pondremos en el lado opuesto”. “Hagan lo que les parezca mejor”, respondió el ejército.

Then he said to all Israel, "You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side." The people said to Saul, "Do what seems good to you."

41 Saúl oró al Señor, el Dios de Israel: “Que el Tumím nos muestre”. Jonatán y Saúl fueron identificados, mientras que todos los demás fueron absueltos.

Therefore Saul said, "LORD, God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this sin is mine or in Jonathan my son, LORD, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this sin is in your people Israel, give Thummim." And Jonathan and Saul were chosen, but the people were cleared.

42 Entonces Saúl dijo: “Echen suertes entre mi hijo Jonatán y yo”. Jonatán fue seleccionado.

And Saul said, "Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. Whomever the LORD shall indicate to be taken by lot, let him die." And the people said to Saul, "This thing is not to be." And Saul prevailed over the people, and they cast lots between him and Jonathan his son. And Jonathan was selected.

43 “Dime qué has hecho”, le preguntó Saúl a Jonatán. “Sólo probé un poco de miel con la punta de mi bastón”, le dijo Jonatán. “Aquí estoy, y tengo que morir”.

Then Saul said to Jonathan, "Tell me what you have done." And Jonathan told him, and said, "I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand; and look, I must die."

44 Saúl dijo: “¡Que Dios me castigue muy severamente si no mueres, Jonatán!”

Saul said, "God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan."

45 Pero el pueblo le dijo a Saúl: “¿Tiene que morir Jonatán, el que logró esta gran victoria en Israel? ¡De ninguna manera! Juramos por la vida del Señor que ni un solo cabello de su cabeza caerá al suelo, pues fue con la ayuda de Dios que logró esto hoy”. El pueblo salvó a Jonatán, y éste no murió.

The people said to Saul, "Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it. As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day." So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

46 Entonces Saúl dejó de perseguir a los filisteos, y los filisteos se fueron a su propio país.

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.

47 Después de que Saúl aseguró su dominio sobre Israel, luchó contra todos sus enemigos de alrededor: Moabitas, amonitas, edomitas, los reyes de Soba y los filisteos. En cualquier dirección que tomara, los derrotaba a todos.

Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the people of Ammon, and against Edom, and against Beth Rehob, and against the king of Zobah, and against the Philistines; and wherever he turned, he was victorious.

48 Luchó con valentía, conquistando a los amalecitas y salvando a Israel de los que los saqueaban.

And he did valiantly, and struck the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hand of its plunderers.

49 Los hijos de Saúl fueron Jonatán, Isvi, y Malquisúa. Los nombres de sus dos hijas eran Merab, (la primogénita), y Mical, (la menor).

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Jishvi, and Malkishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merob, and the name of the younger Mikal:

50 El nombre de su esposa era Ahinoam, hija de Ahimaas. El nombre del comandante del ejército de Saúl era Abner, hijo de Ner, y Ner era tío de Saúl.

and the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was Abiner the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

51 Cis, padre de Saúl, y Ner, padre de Abner, eran hijos de Abiel.

Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

52 Durante toda su vida Saúl estuvo en guerra constante con los filisteos. Saúl reclutó para su ejército a todo guerrero fuerte y a todo luchador valiente que encontró.

There was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to him.
