Proverbios 4

1 Oíd, hijos, las instrucciones de un padre; y prestad atención para aprender prudencia.

Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.

2 Pues os enseño buena doctrina, no abandonéis mis lecciones.

For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.

3 También yo fui hijo de mi padre, tierno y único ante mí madre.

For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.

4 Él me enseñaba y me decía: Retenga tu corazón mis palabras; observa mis preceptos y vivirás.

So he taught me, and said to me—Let thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!

5 Adquiere la sabiduría, trata de alcanzar la inteligencia; no te olvides de ella, ni te apartes de los dichos de mi boca.

Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.

6 No la dejes, y ella te guardará; ámala, y será tu defensa.

Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee, —love her and she will keep thee.

7 He aquí el principio de la sabiduría: adquirir la sabiduría, y a trueque de todos tus bienes alcanzar la inteligencia.

The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.

8 Tenla en gran estima, ella te ensalzará; te honrará cuando la estreches en tus brazos.

Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her:

9 Ornará tu cabeza con una corona de gracia, y te regalará una magnífica diadema.

She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.

10 Escucha, hijo mío, y recibe mis palabras, para que se multipliquen los años de tu vida.

Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.

11 Yo te enseño el camino de la sabiduría, te conduzco por los senderos de la rectitud.

In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.

12 Andando por ellos no serán acechados tus pasos, y si corres no tropezarás.

When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 Atente a la instrucción, nunca la dejes; guárdala, porque es tu vida.

Take fast hold of correction, let her not go, —keep her, for, she, is thy life.

14 No sigas los caminos de los impíos, no vayas por la ruta de los malvados.

Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:

15 Esquívala, no pases por ella; apártate de allí y pasa adelante.

Avoid it, do not pass thereon—turn from it, and depart.

16 Porque ellos no duermen, si antes no han hecho algún mal; no pueden conciliar el sueño, si no han hecho caer a otro.

For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief, —They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,

17 Comen el pan de la iniquidad, y beben el vino de la violencia.

For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.

18 La senda de los justos es como la luz de la mañana, cuyo resplandor crece hasta ser pleno día.

But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn, —going on and brightening, unto meridian day.

19 El camino de los malos, en cambio, es como tinieblas; no saben en qué van a tropezar.

The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.

20 Hijo mío, presta atención a mis palabras, inclina tus oídos a mis enseñanzas;

My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;

21 no se aparten de tus ojos; guárdalas en lo íntimo de tu corazón.

Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;

22 Son vida para quien las halla, salud para todo su cuerpo.

For, life, they are, to them who find them, —and, to every part of one’s flesh, they bring healing.

23 Ante toda cosa guardada guarda tu corazón; porque de él mana la vida.

Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.

24 Evita la perversidad de la lengua, y aleja de ti la maledicencia en el hablar.

Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.

25 Miren de frente tus ojos, y tus párpados diríjanse a los pasos que des.

Let, thine eyes, right onward, look, —and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.

26 Examina los pasos de tu pie y sean rectos todos tus caminos.

Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:

27 No declines ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, y aparta tu pie del mal.

Decline not, to the right hand or to the left, —Turn away thy foot from wickedness.
