San Lucas 14

1 Como Él hubiese ido a casa de un jefe de los fariseos, un día sabático a comer, ellos lo acechaban.

And it came to pass, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him.

2 Estaba allí, delante de Él un hombre hidrópico.

And behold, there was before him a certain man which had the dropsy.

3 Tomando la palabra, Jesús preguntó a los doctores de la Ley y a los fariseos: “¿Es lícito curar, en día sabático, o no?”

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not?

4 Pero ellos guardaron silencio. Tomándolo, entonces, de la mano, lo sanó y lo despidió.

But they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go.

5 Y les dijo: “¿Quién hay de vosotros, que viendo a su hijo o su buey caído en un pozo, no lo saque pronto de allí, aun en día de sábado?”

And he said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a well, and will not straightway draw him up on a sabbath day?

6 Y no fueron capaces de responder a esto.

And they could not answer again unto these things.

7 Observando cómo elegían los primeros puestos en la mesa, dirigió una parábola a los invitados, diciéndoles:

And he spake a parable unto those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats; saying unto them,

8 “Cuando seas invitado a un convite de bodas, no te pongas en el primer puesto, no sea que haya allí otro convidado objeto de mayor honra que tú

When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the chief seat; lest haply a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him,

9 y viniendo el que os convido a ambos, te diga: “Deja el sitio a este”, y pases entonces, con vergüenza, a ocupar el último lugar.

and he that bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place.

10 Por el contrario, cuando seas invitado, ve a ponerte en el último lugar, para que, cuando entre el que te invitó, te diga: “Amigo, sube más arriba”. Y entonces tendrás honor a los ojos de todos los convidados.

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee.

11 Porque el que se levanta, será abajado; y el que se abaja, será levantado”.

For every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 También dijo al que lo había invitado: “Cuando des un almuerzo o una cena, no invites a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a vecinos ricos, no sea, que ellos te inviten a su vez, y que esto sea tu pago.

And he said to him also that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor rich neighbours; lest haply they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

13 Antes bien, cuando des un banquete, convida a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos, y a los ciegos.

But when thou makest a feast, bid the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

14 Y feliz serás, porque ellos no tienen cómo retribuirte, sino que te será retribuido en la resurrección de los justos”.

and thou shalt be blessed; because they have not [wherewith] to recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed in the resurrection of the just.

15 A estas palabras, uno de los convidados le dijo: “¡Feliz el que pueda comer en el reino de Dios!”

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Mas Él le respondió: “Un hombre dio una gran cena a la cual tenía invitada mucha gente.

But he said unto him, A certain man made a great supper; and he bade many:

17 Y envió a su servidor, a la hora del festín, a decir a los convidados: “Venid, porque ya todo está pronto”.

and he sent forth his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for [all] things are now ready.

18 Y todos a una comenzaron a excusarse. El primero le dijo: “He comprado un campo, y es preciso que vaya a verlo; te ruego me des por excusado”.

And they all with one [consent] began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I must needs go out and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19 Otro dijo: “He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes, y me voy a probarlas; te ruego me tengas por excusado”.

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20 Otro dijo: “Me he casado, y por tanto no puedo ir”.

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 El servidor se volvió a contar todo esto a su amo. Entonces, lleno de ira el dueño de casa, dijo a su servidor: “Sal en seguida a las calles y callejuelas de la ciudad; y tráeme aquí los pobres, y lisiados, y ciegos y cojos”.

And the servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed and blind and lame.

22 El servidor vino a decirle: “Señor, se ha hecho lo que tú mandaste, y aún hay sitio”.

And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command is done, and yet there is room.

23 Y el amo dijo al servidor: “Ve a lo largo de los caminos y de los cercados, y compele a entrar, para que se llene mi casa.

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain [them] to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 Porque yo os digo, ninguno de aquellos varones que fueron convidados gozará de mi festín”.

For I say unto you, that none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

25 Como grandes muchedumbres le iban siguiendo por el camino, se volvió y les dijo:

Now there went with him great multitudes: and he turned, and said unto them,

26 “Si alguno viene a Mí y no odia a su padre, a su madre, a su mujer, a sus hijos, a sus hermanos y a sus hermanas, y aun también a su propia vida, no puede ser discípulo mío.

If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 Todo aquel que no lleva su propia cruz y no anda en pos de Mí, no puede ser discípulo mío”.

Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 “Porque, ¿quién de entre vosotros, queriendo edificar una torre, no se sienta primero a calcular el gasto y a ver si tiene con qué acabarla?

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doth not first sit down and count the cost, whether he have [wherewith] to complete it?

29 No sea que, después de haber puesto el cimiento, encontrándose incapaz de acabar, todos los que vean esto comiencen a menospreciarlo

Lest haply, when he hath laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all that behold begin to mock him,

30 diciendo: “Este hombre se puso a edificar, y ha sido incapaz de llegar a término”.

saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31 ¿O qué rey, marchando contra otro rey, no se pone primero a examinar si es capaz, con diez mil hombres, de afrontar al que viene contra él con veinte mil?

Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 Y si no lo es, mientras el otro está todavía lejos, le envía una embajada para pedirle la paz.

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and asketh conditions of peace.

33 Así, pues, cualquiera que entre vosotros no renuncia a todo lo que posee, no puede ser discípulo mío.

So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34 La sal es buena, mas si la sal pierde su fuerza, ¿con qué será sazonada?

Salt therefore is good: but if even the salt have lost its savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 Ya no sirve, ni tampoco sirve para la tierra, ni para el muladar: la arrojan fuera. ¡Quién tiene oídos para oír, oiga!”

It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill: [men] cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
