1 Se reunieron los hombres de Efraím, y pasando a Safón dijeron a Jefté: “¿Por qué saliste a hacer la guerra contra los hijos de Ammón, sin llamarnos a nosotros para marchar contigo? Vamos a quemar tu casa sobre tu cabeza.”
`Lo! forsothe discencioun roos in Effraym; for whi thei, that passiden ayens the north, seiden to Jepte, Whi yedist thou to batel ayens the sones of Amon, and noldist clepe vs, that we schulden go with thee? Therfor we schulen brenne thin hows.
2 Jefté les respondió: “Yo y mi pueblo estábamos luchando violentamente con los hijos de Ammón; y llamé a vosotros, pero no me librasteis de sus manos.
To whiche he answeride, Greet strijf was to me and to my puple ayens the sones of Amon, and Y clepide you, that ye schulden `yyue help to me, and ye nolden do.
3 Mas viendo que no veníais a librarme, tomé mi vida en mi mano y marché contra los hijos de Ammón, y Yahvé les entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué ahora subís contra mí para hacerme la guerra?”
`Which thing Y siy, and puttide my lijf in myn hondis; and Y passide to the sones of Amon, and `the Lord bitook hem in to myn hondis; what haue Y disseruyd, that ye ryse togidere ayens me in to batel?
4 Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los hombres de Galaad, y atacó a Efraím. Y los galaaditas derrotaron a los efraimitas, por cuanto estos decían: “Vosotros sois fugitivos de Efraím; Galaad está en medio de Efraím y Manasés.”
Therfor whanne alle the men of Galaad weren clepid to hym, he fauyt ayens Effraym; and the men of Galaad smytiden Effraym; for he seide, Galaad is `fugitif ether exilid fro Effraym, and dwellith in the myddis of Effraym and of Manasses.
5 Los galaaditas cortaron a los efraimitas los vados del Jordán; y cuando los fugitivos de Efraím decían: “Quiero pasar”, le preguntaban los galaaditas: “¿Eres tú efraimita?” y cuando respondía: “No”
And the men of Galaad ocupieden the forthis of Jordan, bi whiche Effraym schulden turne ayen. And whanne a man fleynge of the noumbre of Effraym hadde come to tho forthis, and hadde seid, Y biseche, that thou suffre me passe; men of Galaad seiden to hym, Whether thou art a man of Effraym? And whanne he seide, Y am not,
6 le decían: “Di: schibólet”; mas él decía: “sibólet”, pues no podía pronunciarlo bien. Entonces lo prendían y le degollaban junto a los vados del Jordán. Así murieron en aquel tiempo cuarenta y dos mil efraimitas.
thei axiden hym, Seie thou therfor Sebolech, `whiche is interpretid, `an eer of corn. Which answeride, Thebolech, and myyte not brynge forth an eer of corn bi the same lettre. And anoon thei strangeliden hym takun in thilke passyng of Jordan; and two and fourti thousynde of Effraym felden doun in that tyme.
7 Jefté juzgó a Israel seis años. Luego murió Jefté galaadita y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad.
And so Jepte, `a man of Galaad, demyde Israel sixe yeer; and he `was deed, and biried in his citee Galaad.
8 Después de él juzgó a Israel Abesán de Betlehem,
Abethsan of Bethleem, that hadde thretti sones, and so many douytris, demyde Israel aftir Jepte;
9 el cual tuvo treinta hijos. Casó, además a su treinta hijas con gente de afuera y trajo de fuera treinta hijas para sus hijos. Juzgó a Israel durante siete años.
whiche douytris he sente out, and yaf to hosebondis, and he took wyues to hise sones of the same noumbre, and brouyte in to hys hows; which demyde Israel seuene yeer;
10 Y murió Abesán y fue sepultado en Betlehem.
and he `was deed, and biried in Bethleem.
11 Después de él juzgó a Israel Elón de Zabulón, el cual juzgó a Israel por espacio de diez años.
Whos successour was Hailon of Zabulon; and he demyde Israel ten yeer;
12 Y murió Elón de Zabulón y fue sepultado en Ayalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.
and he was deed, and biried in Zabulon.
13 Después de él juzgó a Israel Abdón, hijo de Hilel de Faratón,
Aftir hym Abdon, the sone of Ellel, of Pharaton, demyde Israel;
14 el cual tuvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos, que cabalgaban sobre setenta pollinos. Juzgó a Israel por espacio de ocho años.
which Abdon hadde fourti sones, and of hem thretti sones, stiynge on seuenti coltis of femal assis, `that is, mulis, and he demyde Israel eiyte yeer;
15 Y murió Abdón, hijo de Hilel de Faratón y fue sepultado en Faratón, en la tierra de Efraím, en la montaña de los amalecitas.
and he `was deed, and biried in Pharaton, in the loond of Effraym, in the hil of Amalech.
