Jonás 3
1 Por segunda vez llegó a Jonás la palabra de Yahvé, diciendo:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto Jonah, the second time, saying:
2 “Levántate y ve a Nínive, la ciudad grande, y predica en ella el mensaje que Yo te diré.”
Arise, get thee unto Nineveh, the great city, —and cry against it the cry that I am bidding thee.
3 Jonás se levantó, y marchó a Nínive, según la orden de Yahvé. Era Nínive una ciudad grande delante de Dios, de (una dimensión de) tres días de camino.
So Jonah arose, and went his way unto Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh, —Nineveh, being a city great before God, of three days’ journey.
4 Comenzó Jonás a penetrar en la ciudad, y caminando un día entero predicaba, diciendo: “De aquí a cuarenta días Nínive será destruida.”
So Jonah began to enter into the city, one day’s journey, —and he cried out and said—Yet forty days, and, Nineveh, is to be overthrown!
5 Y los ninivitas creyeron en Dios; promulgaron un ayuno y se vistieron de cilicios, desde los grandes hasta los chicos.
And the people of Nineveh believed in God, —and proclaimed a fast, and clothed themselves in sackcloth, from the greatest of them, even unto the least of them.
6 Llegó la noticia también al rey de Nínive; el cual se levantó de su trono, se despojó de su vestidura, se cubrió de saco y se sentó sobre ceniza.
And the word reached unto the king of Nineveh, so he arose from his throne, and laid aside his robe from off him, —and covered him with sackcloth, and sat on ashes.
7 Y por decreto del rey y de sus grandes, se publicó en Nínive esta proclamación: “Ni hombres ni bestias, ni bueyes, ni ovejas gusten cosa alguna; no salgan a pacer ni beban agua.
And he caused an outcry to be made—and said—throughout Nineveh, By decree of the king and of his great men, Be it known: —Man and beast, herd and flock, Let them taste, nothing, let them not feed, and, water, let them not drink:
8 Cúbranse de saco hombres y bestias, y clamen con ahínco a Dios; y conviértase cada uno de su mal camino y de las injusticias de sus manos.
Let both man and beast, cover themselves with sackcloth, and let them cry unto God, mightily, —Yea let them turn, every man from his wicked way, and from the violence which is in their hands:
9 Pues bien puede ser que Dios cambie su designio y se arrepienta, dejando el furor de su ira, de suerte que no perezcamos.”
Who knoweth whether God himself—may turn and grieve, —and turn away from the glow of his anger, that we perish not?
10 Y vio Dios lo que hicieron, cómo se volvieron de su mal camino y arrepintiéndose Dios del mal con que los había conminado, no lo llevó a cabo.
And God saw their doings, that they turned from their wicked way, —and God was grieved over the calamity which he had spoken of executing upon them, and executed it not.
