Jeremías 34

1 Palabra de Yahvé que fue dirigida a Jeremías, cuando Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y todo su ejército, y todos los reinos de la tierra sometidos a su dominio, y todos los pueblos, hacían guerra contra Jerusalén y contra todas sus ciudades.

The word which came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, —when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his force and all the kingdoms of the earth the dominion of his hand, and all the peoples were fighting against Jerusalem and against all her cities, saying:

2 “Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Ve y habla a Sedecías, rey de Judá, y dile: Esto declara Yahvé: He aquí que voy a entregar esta ciudad en poder del rey de Babilonia, el cual le pegará fuego.

Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Go and speak unto Zedekiah king of Judah, —and say unto him—Thus, saith Yahweh, Behold me! giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire;

3 Y tú no escaparás de sus manos, sino que infaliblemente serás tomado preso y entregado en su mano; y tus ojos verán los ojos del rey de Babilonia, y él te hablará boca a boca. A Babilonia irás.

And, thou, shalt not escape out of his hand, For thou shalt be, taken, And into his hand, shalt thou be delivered, —And, thine own eyes, into the eyes of the king of Babylon, shall look, And his mouth, with thy mouth, shall speak And Babylon, shalt thou enter.

4 Pero escucha la palabra de Yahvé, oh Sedecías, rey de Judá. Así dice Yahvé respecto de ti: No morirás a espada;

Nevertheless, hear the word of Yahweh, O Zedekiah, king of Judah, —Thus, saith Yahweh Concerning thee, Thou shalt not die, by the sword;

5 morirás en paz; y como se quemaron perfumes en honor de tus padres, los reyes anteriores que te precedieron, así los quemarán para ti, y te harán lamentaciones, diciendo: «¡Ay, señor!» Porque Yo he decretado esto”, dice Yahvé.

In peace, shalt thou die, And with the burnings made for thy fathers the former kings who were before thee, so, shall they make a burning unto thee, And, with an, Alas lord! shall they lament thee, —Because of the word, I, have spoken, Declareth Yahweh.

6 El profeta Jeremías dijo todas estas palabras a Sedecías, rey de Judá, en Jerusalén.

Then spake Jeremiah the prophet, unto Zedekiah king of Judah all these words in Jerusalem;

7 Entretanto el ejército del rey de Babilonia atacaba a Jerusalén y todas las ciudades de Judá que habían quedado: a Laquís y a Asecá; porque de las ciudades fortificadas de Judá habían quedado solamente estas.

when, the force of the king of Babylon, was fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, —against Lachish and against Azekah, for they, remained among the cities of Judah as fortified cities.

8 Palabra de Yahvé que recibió Jeremías después que el rey Sedecías hizo un pacto con todo el pueblo que había en Jerusalén, proclamando entre ellos libertad,

The word which came unto Jeremiah, from Yahweh, —after that King Zedekiah had solemnised a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem, proclaiming unto them liberty:

9 de tal manera que cada uno dejara ir libre a su esclavo hebreo y a su esclava hebrea, sin que nadie retuviera como esclavo a un judío, hermano suyo.

that every man should let his servant and every man his handmaid, being a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free, —so that no man should use them as slaves, to wit a Jew his brother;

10 En efecto, todos los príncipes y todo el pueblo, que habían aceptado el pacto de dejar ir libre cada uno a su esclavo y a su esclava, consintieron en no retenerlos más como esclavos. Obedecieron, pues, y los dejaron ir.

so then they hearkened—even all the princes and all the people who had entered into the covenant that every man should let his servant and every man his handmaid, go free, so as not to use them as slaves, any longer, —yea they hearkened, and let them go,

11 Pero después se arrepintieron y reclamaron de nuevo a los esclavos y a las esclavas que habían emancipado y los redujeron (otra vez) a servidumbre como esclavos y esclavas.

howbeit they turned after that, and brought back the servants and the handmaids whom they had let go, free, and brought them into subjection as servants and as handmaids,

12 Entonces llegó a Jeremías esta palabra de Yahvé:

So then the word of Yahweh came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying:

13 “Así dice Yahvé; el Dios de Israel: Yo hice un pacto con vuestros padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de la servidumbre, y dije:

Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, —I myself, solemnised a covenant with your fathers, in the day when I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves saying:

14 Al cabo de siete años, cada uno de vosotros dará libertad a su hermano hebreo que le haya sido vendido; seis años te servirá, y luego le dejarás ir libre de tu casa. Mas vuestros padres no me obedecieron ni prestaron su oído.

At the end of seven years, shall ye let go every man his brother, being a Hebrew, who shall sell himself unto thee and serve thee, six years, then shalt thou let him go, free, from thee, Howbeit your fathers hearkened not unto me neither inclined their ear.

15 Vosotros hoy os habéis convertido y habéis hecho lo recto a mis ojos, proclamando cada uno la libertad de su prójimo, y habéis hecho un pacto delante de Mí en la Casa sobre la cual ha sido invocado mi Nombre.

And, though, ye, just now turned and did that which was right in mine eyes, by proclaiming liberty, every man to his neighbour, —and solemnised a covenant before me, in the house on which my Name hath been called,

16 Pero os habéis vuelto atrás y habéis profanado mi nombre, reclamando cada cual a su esclavo y a su esclava que habíais dejado libres según su voluntad, y los habéis forzado a ser (otra vez) esclavos y esclavas.

yet have ye turned and profaned my Name, and brought back, every man his servant and every man his hand-maid, whom ye had let go, free, at their own desire, —and have brought them into subjection, to become your servants and handmaids.

17 Por eso, así dice Yahvé: Porque vosotros no me habéis escuchado y no habéis proclamado cada uno la libertad de su hermano y cada uno la libertad de su prójimo, he aquí que Yo anuncio a vosotros la libertad, dice Yahvé, (de elegir) entre la espada, la peste y el hambre, y haré de vosotros un objeto de horror entre todos los reinos de la tierra.

Therefore—Thus, saith Yahweh, Ye, have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every man to his brother and every man to his neighbour: Behold me! proclaiming, to you, a liberty: Declareth Yahweh unto the sword, unto the pestilence, and unto the famine, so will I make you a terror to all the kingdoms of the earth;

18 Y a los hombres que han violado mi pacto y no han cumplido las palabras del pacto que hicieron ante Mí, los haré semejantes al becerro que cortaron en dos partes para pasar por medio de ellas;

and will give the men who are transgressing my covenant, in that they have not confirmed the words of the covenant, which they solemnised, before me, when they cut the calf, in twain, and passed between the parts thereof;

19 (a saber) a los príncipes de Judá y a los príncipes de Jerusalén, a los eunucos, y a los sacerdotes, y a todo el pueblo del país, que pasaron por entre los trozos del becerro.

even the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs and the priests, and all the people of the land, —who passed between the parts of the calf,

20 Los entregaré en poder de sus enemigos, y en poder de los que atentan contra su vida; y sus cadáveres servirán de pasto a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra.

yea I will give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them who are seeking their life, —and their dead bodies shall become food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth.

21 También a Sedecías, rey de Judá, y a sus príncipes los entregaré en poder de sus enemigos, en poder de los que quieren quitarles la vida, en poder del ejército del rey de Babilonia, que se ha retirado de vosotros.

Zedekiah king of Judah also with his princes, will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them who are seeking their life, —even into the hand of the force of the king of Babylon, who are going up from you.

22 He aquí que doy orden, dice Yahvé, y los volveré a traer contra esta ciudad; la combatirán, la tomarán y la entregarán a las llamas; y de las ciudades de Judá haré un desierto sin habitantes.

Behold me! giving command, Declareth Yahweh, and I will bring them back unto this city, and they will fight against it and capture it, and consume it with fire, —and, the cities of Judah, will I make too desolate to have an inhabitant.
