Jeremías 13
1 Así me dijo Yahvé: “Ve y cómprate un cinturón de lino y ciñe con el tus lomos; mas no lo metas en agua.”
Thus, said Yahweh unto me, —Go and buy for thyself a linen girdle, and put upon thy loins, —but in water, shalt thou not place it.
2 Compré el cinturón, según la orden de Yahvé, y me lo puse sobre los lomos.
So I bought a girdle according to the word of Yahweh, —and put upon my loins.
3 Y me llegó la palabra de Yahvé por segunda vez, para decirme:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me second time saying:
4 “Toma el cinturón que compraste, y que está sobre tus lomos, y levántate, anda al Éufrates y escóndelo allí en la hendidura de una roca.”
Take the girdle which thou hast bought which is upon thy loins, —and arise go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the cliff.
5 Fui y lo escondí junto al Éufrates, como Yahvé me lo había ordenado.
So I went, and hid it, by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me.
6 Y sucedió que pasados muchos días, Yahvé me dijo: “Levántate, ve al Éufrates, y saca de allí el cinturón que te mandé esconder en aquel lugar.”
And it came to pass, at the end of many days, —that Yahweh said unto me, —Arise go to the Euphrates, and take from thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.
7 Fui, pues, al Éufrates y cavé, y saqué el cinturón del lugar donde lo había escondido; mas he aquí que estaba podrido, y ya no era útil para nada.
So I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hidden it, —and lo! the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing,
8 Entonces me habló Yahvé, diciendo:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:
9 “Así dice Yahvé: De esta manera destruiré la soberbia de Judá, y el gran orgullo de Jerusalén.
Thus, saith Yahweh, —After this manner, will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
10 Este pueblo malo que rehúsa oír mis palabras, que siguiendo su obstinado corazón se va tras otros dioses, para servirles y adorarlos, vendrá a ser como este cinturón que para nada es útil.
This wicked people who are refusing to hear my words, who are walking in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods, to serve them and to bow down to them, yea let them be like this girdle, which is good for nothing.
11 Pues así como el cinturón se adhiere a los lomos del hombre, así había Yo unido estrechamente conmigo a toda la casa de Israel, y a toda la casa de Judá, dice Yahvé, a fin de que fuese el pueblo mío para mi renombre, alabanza y gloria; mas ellos no escucharon.
For as a girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, so caused I to cleave unto me—the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah Declareth Yahweh, to become mine—For a people, and For a name, and For a praise and For an adorning, —but they hearkened not.
12 Les dirás esta palabra: Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: “Todas las tinajas han de llenarse de vino.” Y te dirán: ¿Acaso no sabemos muy bien que todas las tinajas han de llenarse de vino?
Therefore shalt thou say unto them this word—Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Every jar, is to be filled with wine; and they will say unto thee, Do we not, know well, that every jar, is to be filled with wine?
13 Entonces les responderás: Así dice Yahvé: “He aquí que Yo llenaré de embriaguez a todos los habitantes de este país, a los reyes que se sientan en el trono de David, a los sacerdotes, a los profetas, y a todos los moradores de Jerusalén;
Then shalt thou say unto them—Thus, saith Yahweh—Behold me! filling all the inhabitants of this land Even the kings that are sitting for David upon his throne and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness;
14 y los estrellaré a unos contra otros, padres e hijos juntamente, dice Yahvé. No tendré piedad, ni compasión, ni misericordia, y no dejaré de destruirlos.”
and I will dash them every man against his brother even the fathers and the sons together, Declareth Yahweh, —I will not pity, Neither will I spare, Neither will I have compassion, that I should not destroy them.
15 Oíd y prestad oídos. No os ensoberbezcáis, pues es Yahvé quien habla.
Hear ye and give ear, be not haughty, —For Yahweh, hath spoken.
16 Dad gloria a Yahvé, vuestro Dios, antes que Él envíe tinieblas, y tropiecen vuestros pies sobre los montes tenebrosos; cuando Él trueque en sombra de muerte la luz que esperáis, conviniéndola en densas tinieblas.
Give ye to Yahweh your God—glory, Before he cause darkness, and Before your feet stumble upon the twilight mountains; Lest, when ye wait for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, And change it for thick darkness.
17 Mas si no escucháis, mi alma llorará en secreto a causa de (vuestra) soberbia, llorará amargamente, y mis ojos se derretirán en lágrimas por la cautividad de la grey de Yahvé.
But if ye will not hear it, In secret places, shall my soul weep Because of the pride, And mine eye, shall flow over, and run down with tears, Because captive hath been taken the flock of Yahweh.
18 “Di al rey y a la reina: Humillaos, sentaos (en el suelo), porque se os cae de vuestras cabezas la corona de vuestra gloria.
Say thou to the king and to the queen-mother, Abase yourselves—Sit down, —For descended have your Head-tires, your Crown of adornment.
19 Las ciudades del Mediodía estarán cerradas, sin que haya quien las abra; todo Judá será llevado al cautiverio, todos sin excepción.
The cities of the South, are shut And there is none to open, —Judah hath been carried away captive, She hath altogether been carried away captive in full number.
20 Levanta tus ojos, y ve quiénes son estos que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está la grey que te fue dada, tu magnífico rebaño?
Lift up your eyes and see Them who are coming in from the North, —Where is The flock that was given thee, Thy beautiful flock?
21 ¿Qué dirás cuando Él ponga sobre ti, por cabeza, a tus amantes, que tú mismo has amaestrado contra ti? ¿No sufrirás entonces dolores, como una mujer que da a luz?
What wilt thou say when he shall bring punishment upon thee, Since, thou thyself, hast accustomed them to be over thee as friends in chief? Shall not, pangs, seize thee, as of a woman in childbirth?
22 Y si dices en tu corazón: «¿Por qué viene sobre mí esto?» por la muchedumbre de tus maldades han sido descubiertas tus faldas y manchadas las plantas de tus pies.
But if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore have these things befallen me? For the greatness of thine iniquity have Thy skirts been turned aside Thy heels suffered violence!
23 ¿Puede acaso el etíope mudar su piel, o el leopardo sus manchas? Así tampoco podéis obrar bien vosotros, los que estáis avezados a hacer el mal.
Can the Ethiopian change, his skin, Or the leopard his spots? Even, ye, may be able to do right, Who are accustomed to do wrong.
24 Los esparciré como la hojarasca, que arrebata el viento del desierto.
Therefore have I scattered them, As broken straw passing away, by the wind of the desert.
25 Esta es tu suerte, la porción que Yo te he reservado, dice Yahvé; por haberte olvidado de Mí, poniendo tu confianza en la mentira.
This is thy lot Thy measured portion from me, Declareth Yahweh; For that thou didst forget me, And confide in falsehood:
26 Pues también Yo te descubriré las faldas (alzándolas) sobre tu rostro, para que se vean tus vergüenzas.
Therefore, even I myself, have drawn away thy skirts, over thy face, And thy shame hath been seen,
27 Tus adulterios, tus relinchos, la ignominia de tu fornicación, en los collados y por los campos, (todas) tus abominaciones las he visto. ¡Ay de ti, oh Jerusalén, que no quieres purificarte! ¿Hasta cuándo esperas todavía?”
Thine adulteries and thy neighings, thine unchaste wickedness, Upon the hills in the field, I have seen thine abominations! Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, Wilt thou not become pure? After how long yet?
