Isaías 5

1 Cantaré ahora a mi amado un canto, la canción de mi amado acerca de su viña. Tenía mi amado una viña en un collado muy fértil.

Let me sing for my well beloved, a song of my beloved about his vineyard. My well beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill.

2 La cavó y la despedregó, la plantó de cepas escogidas, y edificó en medio de ella una torre, y también un lagar, y esperó que diese uvas, pero dio agraces.

He spaded it, removed the stones, and planted it with an excellent kind of vine. He built a tower in the middle of it, and also built a winepress. He waited for it to produce grapes, but it only produced wild grapes.

3 Ahora, pues, habitantes de Jerusalén y hombres de Judá, juzgad entre mí y mi viña.

So now, inhabitant of Jerusalem and man of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.

4 ¿Qué más había de hacer yo por mi viña que no le hiciera? ¿Por qué mientras esperaba que diese uvas, dio agraces?

What more could have been done for my vineyard, that I have not done for it? When I looked for it to produce grapes, why did it produce wild grapes?

5 Ahora voy a deciros lo que haré con mi viña: Le quitaré su seto, y será talada, derribaré su muro, y será hollada.

Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will remove the hedge, I will turn it into a pasture, I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down.

6 Haré de ella una desolación y no será podada ni cultivada; brotarán allí zarzas y espinas; y mandaré que las nubes no lluevan sobre ella.

I will lay it waste, and it will not be pruned nor hoed. Instead, briers and thorns will spring up. I will also command the clouds not to rain on it.

7 Pues la viña de Yahvé de los ejércitos es la casa de Israel, y los hombres de Judá son el plantío de su deleite. Esperaba de ellos rectitud, y no veo más que derramamiento de sangre; justicia, y he aquí que no hay más que gritos de dolor.

For the vineyard of Yahweh of hosts is the house of Israel, and the man of Judah his pleasant planting; he waited for justice, but instead, there was killing; for righteousness, but, instead, a shout for help.

8 ¡Ay de los que juntan casa con casa, campo con campo, hasta que no queda más terreno y vosotros sois los únicos habitantes en medio del país!

Woe to those who join house to house, who join field to field, until no room remains, and you alone remain in the land!

9 Ha llegado a mis oídos (esta palabra) de Yahvé de los ejércitos: “Estas numerosas casas serán convertidas en ruinas, y por grandes y hermosas que sean, quedarán sin moradores.”

Yahweh of hosts told me, many houses will be empty, even great and impressive ones, without any inhabitant.

10 Porque diez yugadas de viña producirán solamente un bat, y un hómer de semilla no dará más que un efa.

For a ten-yoke vineyard will yield only one bath, and one homer of seed will yield only an ephah.

11 ¡Ay de los que se levantan muy de mañana para correr tras bebidas que embriagan, y que siguen bebiendo hasta la noche, hasta que los enciende el vino!

Woe to those who rise up early in the morning to obtain strong drink, those who linger late into the night until wine inflames them.

12 En sus banquetes hay cítaras, liras, tamboriles y flautas y vinos, y no miran la obra de Yahvé ni ven las obras de sus manos.

They banquet with harp, lute, tambourine, flute, and wine, but they do not recognize the work of Yahweh, nor have they considered the doings of his hands.

13 Por eso mi pueblo será llevado al cautiverio sin darse cuenta; sus nobles morirán de hambre, y su multitud se abrasará de sed.

Therefore my people have gone into captivity for lack of understanding; their honored leaders go hungry, and their common people have nothing to drink.

14 Por eso el scheol ensanchará sus fauces y abrirá sin medida su boca. Descenderá allí la gloria de (Jerusalén) y su multitud turbulenta que se regocija en ella. (Sheol h7585)

Therefore Sheol has made its appetite greater and has opened its mouth very wide; their elite, the people, their leaders, and the revelers and those who are happy among them, descend into Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

15 Será humillado todo hombre, serán abatidos todos los mortales y bajados los ojos altivos;

Man will be forced to bend down, and mankind will be humbled; the eyes of the lofty will be cast down.

16 mas Yahvé de los ejércitos será grande en el juicio, y el Dios Santo mostrará su santidad por la justicia.

Yahweh of hosts will be exalted in his justice, and God the Holy One will show himself holy by his righteousness.

17 Corderos pacerán allí como si fuese su pastizal, y los extranjeros devorarán los devastados campos de los ricos.

Then the sheep will feed as in their own pasture, and in the ruins, lambs will graze as foreigners.

18 ¡Ay de los que arrastran la iniquidad con cuerdas de vanidad, y el pecado como con coyundas de carro;

Woe to those who pull along iniquity with useless cords and who pull along sin as if it were with a cart rope.

19 y dicen: “Dese prisa; que haga presto su obra, para que la veamos; acérquese y tome cuerpo el plan del Santo de Israel, para que lo conozcamos!”

Woe to those who say, “Let God hurry, let him act quickly, so we can see it happen; and let the plans of the Holy One of Israel come, so that we may know them.”

20 ¡Ay de los que al mal llaman bien y al bien mal, que ponen tinieblas por luz, y luz por tinieblas; que dan lo amargo por dulce, y lo dulce por amargo!

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who represent darkness as light, and light as darkness; who represent bitter as sweet, and sweet as bitter!

21 ¡Ay de los que son sabios a sus propios ojos, y prudentes ante sí mismos!

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own understanding!

22 ¡Ay de los que son héroes para beber vino, y valientes para mezclar bebidas embriagadoras,

Woe to those who are champions at drinking wine, and masters at mixing strong drinks;

23 que por un regalo absuelven al malhechor y privan a los justos de su derecho!

who acquit the wicked for payment, and deprive the innocent of his rights!

24 Por eso, como la lengua del fuego devora la paja, y como la llama consume la hierba seca, así su raíz será como podredumbre, y su flor será arrebatada como el polvo, por cuanto han rechazado a ley de Yahvé de los ejércitos, y despreciado la palabra del Santo de Israel.

Therefore as the tongue of fire devours stubble, and as the dry grass goes down in flame, so their root will rot, and their blossom will blow away like dust. This will happen because they have rejected the law of Yahweh of hosts, and because they have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

25 Por eso se ha encendido la ira de Yahvé contra su pueblo, y extendió contra él su mano y lo hirió, por eso tiemblan los montes, y sus cadáveres yacen en las calles como basura. Con todo esto no se ha aplacado su ira; aún está extendida su mano.

Therefore the anger of Yahweh is kindled against his people. He has reached out with his hand against them and has punished them. The mountains tremble, and their corpses are like garbage in the streets. In all these things, his anger does not subside; instead, his hand is still stretched out.

26 Él alzará una bandera para pueblos lejanos, y los llamará con un silbo desde los fines de la tierra; y he aquí que vendrán pronto y apresuradamente.

He will lift up a signal flag for far away nations and will whistle for those at the end of the earth. Look, they will come speedily and promptly.

27 Entre ellos no hay cansado ni quien tropiece; ningún soñoliento, ningún dormilón; no se desata de sus lomos el cinturón, ni se rompe la correa de su calzado;

None tire or stumble among them; none slumbers or sleeps. Nor are their belts loose, or the thongs of their sandals broken.

28 sus saetas son agudas, y tensos están todos sus arcos; los cascos de sus caballos son como pedernal, y las ruedas de sus carros como el torbellino.

Their arrows are sharp and all their bows are bent; their horses' hooves are like flint, and their chariot wheels like storms.

29 Braman como león, rugen como leoncillo, que gruñe y agarra la presa, y se la lleva, sin que nadie se la quite.

Their roaring will be like a lion; they will roar like young lions. They will growl and seize the prey and drag it away, with none to rescue.

30 En aquel día bramarán contra (Israel) como brama el mar; y si uno mirase la tierra, no verá sino tinieblas y angustia; pues la luz se oscurecerá en densas nubes.

On that day they will roar against the prey as the sea roars. If anyone looks over the land, he will see darkness and suffering; even the light will be made dark by the clouds.
