Isaías 22

1 Oráculo contra el Valle de la Visión: ¿Qué te pasa por fin? ¿Por qué has subido, toda entera, a los terrados?

The oracle on the valley of vision, —What aileth thee, then, That thou art wholly gone up to the house-tops?

2 ¡Tú que estabas llena de bullicio, ciudad estrepitosa, ciudad alegre! Tus muertos no perecieron al filo de la espada, ni murieron en la batalla.

With tumults, art thou filled, thou citadel in commotion! city exultant! Thy slain, are Not the slain, of the sword, Nor the dead in battle.

3 Todos tus jefes han huido a la vez; han sido apresados sin que se usase el arco; todos los tuyos que han sido hallados, están presos juntos; y se fueron lejos.

All thy ruler, having fled, together, by the bow, are taken captive: All found in thee have been taken captive, together, Far away, have they fled.

4 Por eso dije: “Apartad de mí la vista, y lloraré amargamente; no os empeñéis en consolarme en la ruina de la hija de mi pueblo.”

For this cause, I said—Look away from me, Bitterly, will I weep, —Do not press to comfort me, For the ruin of the daughter of my people.

5 Porque día es este de perturbación, de abatimiento y de confusión, (día) del Señor, Yahvé de los ejércitos, en el valle de la Visión. Los muros se han convertido en ruinas, se oyen gritos hasta las montañas.

For a day of confusion and downtreading and perplexity, pertaineth to My Lord, Yahweh of hosts, in the valley of vision, an undermining of walls, and a crying for help to the mountain.

6 Elam ha tomado la aljaba y (viene) con carros y caballería; Kir ha descolgado (de la pared) la rodela.

Yea, Elam, beareth the quiver, With trains of men, [and] horsemen, —And, Kir, hath uncovered the shield.

7 Tus valles tan hermosos están llenos de carros, y los jinetes se han apostado a la puerta.

And it hath come to pass that the choice of thy vales, are full of chariots; Yea, the horsemen, have set themselves, in array, at the gate.

8 Se ha quitado a Judá el velo. En aquel día dirigisteis la vista a la armería de la casa del Bosque;

Then removed he the veil of Judah, —Yea thou didst peer on that day, into the armoury of the forest-house;

9 y visteis que las brechas en la ciudad de David eran numerosas. Recogisteis las aguas de la piscina de abajo,

And the breaches in the city of David, ye beheld for they were many, —So ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool;

10 contasteis las casas de Jerusalén, demolisteis las casas para fortificar la muralla,

And the houses of Jerusalem, ye counted, —And brake down the houses, to fortify the wall;

11 e hicisteis entre los dos muros un depósito para las aguas del estanque viejo. Pero no mirasteis al que hace esto, ni visteis a Aquel que lo tiene preparado desde antiguo.

And a reservoir, ye made between the two walls, for the waters of the ancient pool, —And had no regard unto him that made it, Nor unto him that formed it long ago, had ye respect.

12 En aquel día el Señor, Yahvé de los ejércitos, (os) invitó a llorar y hacer duelo, a rasuraros la cabeza y a vestiros de cilicio.

And, when My Lord Yahweh of hosts called in that day, —for weeping, and for lamentation, and for shaving bare and for girding with sackcloth,

13 (En vez de esto) se notan placeres y júbilo; se dedican a matar bueyes y degollar ovejas, comen carne y beben vino (diciendo): “Comamos y bebamos, que mañana moriremos.”

Then lo! joy and rejoicing, killing oxen and slaughtering sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine, —Let us eat and drink, For to-morrow, we may die!

14 Mas Yahvé de los ejércitos se me ha revelado y dijo: “Esta iniquidad no os será perdonada, hasta que muráis”, dice el Señor, Yahvé de los ejércitos.

Therefore did Yahweh reveal himself in mine ears. Surely there shall be no propitiatory-covering put over this iniquity for you until ye die, Saith My Lord Yahweh of hosts.

15 Así dice el Señor, Yahvé de los ejércitos: “Ve a ver a ese ministro, a Sobná, prefecto del palacio, (y le dirás):

Thus, said My Lord Yahweh, of hosts, Come go in unto this steward, Unto Shebna, who is over the house:

16 «¿Qué haces tú aquí? ¿y quién eres tú en este lugar? ya que te labras aquí un sepulcro». Te haces un sepulcro en lugar alto, tallando para ti una morada en la roca.

What doest thou here? And whom hast thou here? That thou hast hewn for thyself here a sepulchre, —As one hewing on high his sepulchre, Cutting out in the cliff a habitation for himself?

17 He aquí que Yahvé te arrojará con golpe viril, y te hará rodar con violencia.

Lo! Yahweh, is about to hurl thee, with a hurl, O mighty man, —And roll thee with a roll;

18 Te enrollará como ovillo, te (lanzará) cual pelota en plaza espaciosa. Allí morirás, y allí quedarán tus gloriosas carrozas, oh vergüenza de la casa de tu Señor.

He will, toss, thee, with a toss, like a ball, into a country wide on both hands, —There, shalt thou die, And there shall thy glorious chariots be the contempt of the house of thy lord.

19 Yo te expulsaré de tu puesto, te arrancaré de tu lugar.”

Thus will I thrust thee out from thine office, —And from thy station, shall one tear thee down.

20 Y en aquel día llamaré a mi siervo Eliaquim, hijo de Helcías;

And it shall come to pass in that day, That I will call for my servant, for Eliakim son of Hilkiah,

21 le vestiré con tu túnica, y le ceñiré con tu cinturón; pondré tu poder en su mano, y él será como padre de los habitantes de Jerusalén y de la casa de Judá.

And will clothe him with thy tunic And with thy girdle, will I gird him, And thine authority, will I deliver into his hand, —So shall he become a father To the inhabitant of Jerusalem and To the house of Judah.

22 Pondré sobre su hombro la llave de la casa de David; abrirá, y nadie cerrará, cerrará, y nadie abrirá.

And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder, —And he shall open and none shall shut, And shut and none shall open;

23 Le colocaré como clavo hincado en lugar firme, y será como trono de gloria para la casa de su padre.

And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place, —And he shall become a throne of glory, to the house of his father;

24 De él colgará toda la gloria de la casa de su padre, los hijos y los nietos, todos los vasos pequeños, desde la copa hasta toda clase de jarros.

And they shall hang upon him all the weight of his father’s house—The offshoots and the side-twigs—All the small vessels, Both the cups and all the jugs

25 En aquel día —oráculo de Yahvé de los ejércitos— cederá el clavo hincado en lugar firme, será quebrado y caerá; y la carga que había sobre él será destruida, pues Yahvé lo ha dicho.”

In that day, —Declareth Yahweh of hosts Shall the peg, give way, that was fastened in a sure place, —Yea it shall be cut off and fall And the burden that was upon it shall perish, For, Yahweh, hath spoken!
