Esdras 4
1 Cuando los enemigos de Judá y Benjamín supieron que los hijos de la cautividad edificaban un Templo para Yahvé, el Dios de Israel,
Forsothe the enemyes of Juda and of Beniamyn herden, that the sones of caitifte bildiden a temple to the Lord God of Israel;
2 vinieron a Zorobabel y a los jefes de las casas paternas, y les dijeron: “Permitid que os ayudemos; pues nosotros buscamos a vuestro Dios lo mismo que vosotros, y a Él le ofrecemos sacrificios desde los días de Asarhaddón, rey de Asiria, que nos ha trasladado a este lugar.”
and thei neiyeden to Zorobabel, and to the princes of fadris, and seiden to hem, Bilde we with you, for so as ye, we seken youre God; lo! we han offrid sacrificis fro the daies of Assoraddon, kyng of Assur, that brouyte vs hidur.
3 Zorobabel, Jesúa y los demás jefes de las casas paternas de Israel les respondieron: “Nada nos sea común con vosotros en la edificación de una Casa para nuestro Dios; antes bien nosotros solos la edificaremos para Yahvé, el Dios de Israel; como nos lo ha mandado el rey Ciro, soberano de Persia.”
And Zorobabel, and Josue, and the othere princes of the fadris of Israel, seiden to hem, It is not to vs and to you, that we bilde an hows to oure God; but we vs silf aloone schulen bilde to `oure Lord God, as Cirus, the kyng of Persis, comaundide to vs.
4 Así la gente del país debilitaba las manos del pueblo de Judá y estorbaba la construcción.

5 Sobornaron también contra ellos a algunos magistrados para frustrarles su propósito durante toda la vida de Ciro, rey de Persia, hasta el reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.
And thei hiriden counselouris ayens the Jewis, that thei schulden destrie the counseil of the Jewis, in alle the daies of Cirus, king of Persis, and `til to the rewme of Darius, king of Persis.
6 En el reinado de Asuero, al principio de su reinado, escribieron una carta de acusación contra los habitantes de Judá y Jerusalén;

7 y en los días de Artajerjes, Bislam, Mitridates, Tabeel y el resto de sus compañeros escribieron a Artajerjes, rey de Persia, una carta escrita en letra aramea y traducida a la lengua aramea.

8 Rehum, gobernador, y Simsai, secretario, escribieron en lo tocante a Jerusalén la siguiente carta al rey Artajerjes:
Reum, Beel, Theem, and Samsai, the scryuen, writen sich oon epistle fro Jerusalem to the kyng Artaxerses; Reum,
9 “En aquel tiempo Rehum, gobernador; Simsai secretario, y el resto de sus compañeros, los dineos, los afarsateos, los tarpelitas, los afarseos, los arquavitas, los babilonios, los susanitas, los dehaítas, los elamitas,
Beel, Theem, and Samsai, the writere, and othere counselouris of hem, Dyney, Pharsathei, and Therphalei, Arphasei, Harthuei, men of Babiloyne, Susanne, Thanei, Dacei, men of Helam,
10 y los demás pueblos que el grande e ilustre Asnapar transportó y estableció en las ciudades de Samaria y en los otros lugares de la otra parte del Río, etc.”

11 He aquí la copia de la carta que le enviaron: “Al rey Artajerjes, tus siervos, las gentes de la otra parte del Río, etc.

12 Sepa el rey que los judíos que vinieron de ti hacia nosotros, han venido a Jerusalén, y están edificando la ciudad rebelde y mala, reconstruyendo las murallas y restaurando los cimientos.
Be it knowun to the kyng, that the Jewis, that stieden fro thee, ben comun to vs `in to Jerusalem, the rebel and worste citee, which thei bilden, and thei maken the ground wallis therof, and arayen the wallis aboue.
13 Sepa el rey, que si esta ciudad se reedifica y se reparan sus murallas, no pagarán ni impuesto, ni tributo, ni derechos de tránsito y al fin perjudicará esto a los reyes.
Nou therfor be it knowun to the kyng, that if thilke citee be bildid, and the wallis therof be restorid, thei schulen not yyue tribut, and tol, and annuel rentis, and this trespas schal come `til to the kyng.
14 Por eso nosotros, en atención a que comemos la sal del palacio, y que no conviene que presenciemos la deshonra del rey, enviamos al rey esta información:
Therfor we ben myndeful of the salt, which we eeten in the paleis, and for we holden it vnleueful to se the harmes of the kyng, therfor we han sent and teld to the kyng;
15 Que se averigüe en el libro de los anales de tus padres; y en el libro de los anales de tus padres hallarás y conocerás que esta ciudad es una ciudad rebelde, que causa daño a los reyes y a las provincias; y que ya desde antiguo se han fraguado rebeliones en medio de ella. Por eso fue destruida esta ciudad.
that thou acounte in the bokis of stories of thi fadris, and thou schalt fynde writun in cronyclis, and thou schalt wite, that thilke citee is a rebel citee, and that it anoieth kyngis and prouynces, and batels ben reisid therynne of elde daies; wherfor also thilke citee was distried.
16 Hacemos saber al rey que si esta ciudad se reedifica y se reparan sus murallas, no te quedará más posesión alguna en la otra parte del río.”
We tellen to the kyng, that if thilke citee be bildid, and the wallis therof be restorid, thou schalt not haue possessioun biyende the flood.
17 El rey envió respuesta a Rehum, gobernador; a Simsai, secretario, y a los demás de sus compañeros que habitaban en Samaria, y en los otros lugares de la otra parte del río (diciendo): “Paz, etc.
The kyng sente word to Reum, Beel, Theem, and to Samsai, the scryuen, and to othere that weren in the counsel of hem, to the dwelleris of Samarie, and to othere biyendis the flood, and seide, Helthe and pees.
18 La carta que nos enviasteis se ha leído delante de mí, palabra por palabra.

19 He dado orden de que se hicieran investigaciones, y se ha hallado que esa ciudad desde antiguo se ha rebelado contra los reyes, y que en ella se han tramado sediciones y revueltas.
and it was comaundid of me, and thei rekenyden, and thei foundun, that thilke citee rebellith of elde daies ayens kyngis, and dissenciouns and batels ben reisid therynne;
20 Hubo en Jerusalén reyes poderosos, señores de todos los países de la otra parte del río, que recibían impuesto, tributo y derechos de tránsito.
for whi `and ful stronge kyngis weren in Jerusalem, which also weren lordis of al the cuntrei which is biyende the flood; also thei token tribut, and tol, and rentis.
21 Por lo tanto dad orden a esos hombres, que desistan y que esta ciudad no sea reconstruida hasta que yo dé la orden correspondiente.
Now therfor here ye the sentence, that ye forbede tho men, and that thilke citee be not bildid, til if perauenture it be comaundid of me.
22 Y mirad que no seáis negligentes en esto, no sea que crezca el daño en perjuicio de los reyes.”
Se ye, that this be not fillid necgligentli, and yuel encreesse litil `and litil ayens kyngis.
23 Entonces, después de la lectura de la copia de la carta del rey Artajerjes delante de Rehum y Simsai, secretario, y sus compañeros, fueron estos a toda prisa a Jerusalén, a los judíos, y los obligaron a suspender los trabajos por la violencia y la fuerza.
Therfor the saumple of the comaundement of kyng Artaxarses was red bifor Reum, Beel, Theem, and Samsai, the scryueyn, and her counseleris; and thei yeden hastili in to Jerusalem to the Jewis, and forbediden hem with arm and myyt.
24 Con esto cesó la obra de la Casa de Dios, que está en Jerusalén; y quedó interrumpida hasta el año segundo del reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.
Thanne the werk of Goddis hows in Jerusalem was left, and it was not maad til to the secounde yeer of Darius, king of Persis.
