Esdras 10

1 En tanto que Esdras, postrado ante la Casa de Dios, lloraba orando y haciendo esta confesión, se había reunido en derredor de él una grandísima multitud de Israel, hombres, mujeres y niños, y el pueblo se deshacía en lágrimas.

Now, when Ezra had prayed and when he had made confession, weeping and casting himself down, before the house of God, there gathered unto him out of Israel, an exceeding large convocation—men and women and children, for the people wept with a very bitter weeping.

2 Tomó entonces la palabra Secanías, hijo de Jehiel, de los hijos de Elam, y dijo a Esdras: “Hemos sido infieles a nuestro Dios, tomando mujeres extranjeras de los pueblos del país; pero no por eso queda Israel sin esperanza.

Then responded Shecaniah son of Jehiel of the sons of Elam, and said unto Ezra, We, have been faithful with our God, and have married foreign women from among the peoples of the land, —yet, now, there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.

3 Hagamos ahora pacto con nuestro Dios de despedir a todas estas mujeres y los hijos de ellas, según el consejo de mi señor y de los que temen los mandamientos de nuestro Dios; y sea cumplida la Ley.

Now, therefore, let us solemnize a covenant unto our God—to put away all the women and such as have been born of them, in the counsel of my lord, and them who tremble at the commandment of our God, —and, according to the law, let it be done.

4 ¡Levántate! que esta cosa es de tu incumbencia; nosotros estaremos contigo. ¡Ánimo, y a la obra!”

Arise, for, upon thee, resteth the thing, but, we, are with thee, —be strong, and act.

5 Se levantó Esdras e hizo jurar a los príncipes de los sacerdotes, a los levitas y a todo Israel, que obrarían de acuerdo a lo dicho. Y ellos juraron.

Then arose Ezra and made the rulers of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, swear to do according to this word—and they sware.

6 Tras lo cual se retiró Esdras de la Casa de Dios, y fue al aposento de Johanán, hijo de Eliasib; y entrado allí no comió pan ni bebió agua, porque guardaba duelo por la infidelidad de los que habían venido del cautiverio.

Then arose Ezra from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib, —and, when he came thither, bread, did he not eat, and, water, did he not drink, for he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of them of the Exile.

7 Se promulgó entonces un pregón por Judá y Jerusalén, para que todos los vueltos del cautiverio se reuniesen en Jerusalén,

Then made they a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem, unto all the Sons of the Exile, to gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;

8 y que según el acuerdo de los príncipes y de los ancianos, a todo el que no compareciese dentro de tres días, le fuesen confiscados todos sus bienes y él mismo quedase excluido de la congregación de los hijos del cautiverio.

and, whosoever should not come within three days, according to the counsel of the rulers and the elders, all his goods should be devoted, —and, himself, be separated from the convocation of them of the Exile.

9 Se congregaron, efectivamente, dentro de los tres días todos los hombres de Judá y de Benjamín en Jerusalén. Era el mes noveno, el veinte del mes. Y se sentó todo el pueblo en la plaza de la Casa de Dios, temblando a causa de este asunto, y por las lluvias.

Then were gathered together all the men of Judah and Benjamin unto Jerusalem, within three days, the same, was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month, —and all the people remained in the broadway of the house of God, trembling concerning the thing, and because of the heavy rains.

10 Entonces se levantó el sacerdote Esdras, y les dijo: “Vosotros habéis sido infieles tomándoos mujeres extranjeras y aumentando así la culpa de Israel.

Then arose Ezra the priest, and said unto them, Ye, have acted unfaithfully, and have married foreign women, —to add unto the guilt of Israel.

11 Confesad ahora (vuestra culpa) a Yahvé, el Dios de vuestros padres, y haced lo que es de su agrado, separándoos de los pueblos del país y de las mujeres extranjeras.”

Now, therefore, make confession unto Yahweh God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, —and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women.

12 Toda la asamblea contestó, diciendo en alta voz: “Debemos hacer según tus palabras.

Then responded all the convocation and said, with a loud voice, —Thus, according to thy word concerning us, must it be done.

13 Pero el pueblo es numeroso y estamos en el tiempo de las lluvias; no es posible estar al descubierto; y el asunto no es cosa de un día, ni de dos; porque hemos pecado muy gravemente en este caso.

Nevertheless, the people, are many, and, the season, is that of the heavy rains, and we are not able to stand outside, —and, the business, is not one for a single day, nor yet for two, for we have abundantly transgressed, in this thing.

14 Sean, pues, constituidos nuestros príncipes (árbitros) en lugar de toda la congregación, y todos los que en nuestras ciudades hayan tomado mujeres extranjeras, comparezcan en tiempos determinados, acompañados de los ancianos y jueces de cada ciudad, hasta que se aparte de nosotros el fuego de la ira de nuestro Dios por este asunto.”

Let, we beseech thee, our rulers take up their station for all the convocation, and, all who, throughout our cities, have married foreign women, let them come in at times appointed, and, with them, the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the glow of the anger of our God be turned from us, concerning this matter.

15 Solamente Jonatán, hijo de Asael, y Jahasías, hijo de Ticvá, se opusieron a esta propuesta; y los apoyaron Mesullam y Sabetai, el levita.

Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, made a stand against this, —and, Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, helped them.

16 Pero los hijos del cautiverio no cedieron. Se designó al sacerdote Esdras y a algunos de los jefes de las casas paternas, según sus casas paternas, todos ellos nominalmente; y se sentaron el día primero del mes décimo para examinar los casos.

But the Sons of the Exile, did thus, and Ezra the priest separated to himself certain men—ancestral heads by their ancestral houses, and all of them by name, —and they took their seats on the first day of the tenth month to search into the matter;

17 El día primero del mes primero acabaron (de registrar) a todos los hombres que habían tomado mujeres extranjeras.

and they made an end with all the men who had married foreign women, —by the first day of the first month.

18 Entre los hijos de los sacerdotes se hallaron los siguientes casados con mujeres extranjeras: De los hijos de Jesúa, hijo de Josadac, y de los hermanos de él: Maasías, Eliéser, Jarib y Godolías.

Now there were found, of the sons of the priests, who had married foreign women, —of the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah;

19 Estos dieron su mano obligándose a despedir a sus mujeres, y, por ser culpables, a ofrecer por su culpa un carnero del rebaño.

and they gave their hand, that they would put away their wives, —and, being guilty, [they offered] a ram of the flock for their guilt.

20 De los hijos de Imer: Hananí y Sebadías.

And, of the sons of Immer, Hanani, and Zebadiah.

21 De los hijos de Harim: Maasías, Elías, Semeías, Jehiel y Ocías.

And, of the sons of Harim, Maaseiah and Elijah and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.

22 De los hijos de Fashur: Elioenai, Maasías, Ismael, Natanael, Josabad y Elasá.

And, of the sons of Passhur, Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasar.

23 De los levitas: Josabad, Semeí y Kelayá, que es Kelitá, Petahías, Judá y Eliéser.

And, of the Levites, Jozabad and Shimei, and Kelaiah, the same, is Kelita, Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

24 De los cantores: Eliasib; de los porteros: Sellum, Télem y Urí.

And, of the singers, Eliashib. And, of the doorkeepers, Shallum and Telem and Uri.

25 Además, de entre Israel: De los hijos de Faros: Ramías, Isías, Malquías, Miamín, Eleazar, Malquías y Banaías.

And, of Israel, of the sons of Parosh, Ramiah and Izziah and Malchijah and Mijamin and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

26 De los hijos de Elam: Matanías, Zacarías, Jehiel, Abdí, Jeremot y Elías.

And, of the sons of Elam, Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.

27 De los hijos de Zatú: Elioenai, Eliasib, Matanías, Jeremot, Sabad y Asisá.

And, of the sons of Zattu, Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

28 De los hijos de Bebai: Johanán, Hananías, Zabai y Atlai.

And, of the sons of Bebai, Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.

29 De los hijos de Baní: Mesullam, Malluc, Adaías, Jasub, Seal y Ramor.

And, of the sons of Bani, Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, Jeremoth.

30 De los hijos de Fáhat-Moab: Adná, Kelal, Banaías, Maasías, Matanías, Bezalel. Binuí y Manasés.

And, of the sons of Pahath-moab, Adna and Chelal, —Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

31 De los hijos de Harim: Eliéser, Isaías, Malquías, Semeías, Simeón,

And, [of] the sons of Harim, Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon;

32 Benjamín, Malluc y Samarias.

Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.

33 De los hijos de Hasum: Matenai, Matatá, Sabad, Elifélet, Jeremai, Manasés y Semeí.

Of the sons of Hashum, Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, —Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.

34 De los hijos de Baní: Maadai, Amram, Joel,

Of the sons of Bani, Maadai, Amram, and Uel;

35 Banaías, Bedías, Keluhú,

Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhu;

36 Vanías, Meremot, Eliasib.

Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib;

37 Matanías, Matenai, Jaasías.

Mettaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu;

38 Baní, Binuí, Semeí,

and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei;

39 Selemías. Natán, Adaías,

and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah;

40 Macnadbai. Sasai, Sarai,

Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai;

41 Azarel, Selemías, Semerías,

Azarel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah;

42 Sellum. Amarías y José.

Shallum, Amariah, Joseph.

43 De los hijos de Nebó: Jeiel, Matitías, Sabad, Zebiná, Jadai, Joel y Banaías.

Of the sons of Nebo, Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, —Iddo, and Joel, Benaiah.

44 Todos estos habían tomado mujeres extranjeras; y había entre ellos quienes tenían hijos de esas mujeres.

All these, had taken foreign women, —and had begotten of them children.
