Ezequiel 20

1 El año séptimo, el día diez del quinto mes, vinieron algunos de los ancianos de Israel a consultar a Yahvé, y se sentaron delante de mí.

It came about in the seventh year, on the tenth day of the fifth month, that elders of Israel came to inquire of Yahweh and sat before me.

2 Y me llegó la palabra de Yahvé, que dijo:

Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

3 “Hijo de hombre, habla a los ancianos de Israel en estos términos: Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: ¿Vosotros venís a consultarme? Por mi vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor, que no me dejaré consultar por vosotros.

“Son of man, declare to the elders of Israel and say to them, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: Have you come to inquire of me? As I live, I will not be inquired of by you!—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration.'

4 Júzgalos tú, hijo de hombre, júzgalos tú y muéstrales las abominaciones de sus padres.

Will you judge them? Will you judge, son of man? Let them know about their fathers' abominations.

5 Les dirás: Así habla Yahvé, el Señor: Cuando Yo escogí a Israel, alzando mi mano en favor de la descendencia de la casa de Jacob, y cuando me di a conocer a ellos en la tierra de Egipto, y levanté mi mano para protegerlos, diciendo: Yo soy Yahvé, vuestro Dios;

Say to them, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: On the day that I chose Israel and raised my hand to swear an oath to the descendants of the house of Jacob, and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I raised my hand to swear an oath to them. I said, “I am Yahweh your God”—

6 aquel día alcé mi mano (jurando) sacarlos de la tierra de Egipto (y conducirlos) a un país que tenía explorado para ellos y que mana leche y miel, la joya de todos los países.

on that day I raised my hand to swear an oath to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had carefully selected for them. It was flowing with milk and honey; it was the most beautiful ornament among all the lands.

7 Y les dije: Quitad cada uno las abominaciones de sus ojos, y no os contaminéis con los ídolos de Egipto; pues Yo soy Yahvé, vuestro Dios.

I said to them, “Let each man throw away the detestable things from before his eyes and the idols of Egypt. Do not make yourselves unclean; I am Yahweh your God.”

8 Pero ellos se rebelaron contra Mí y no quisieron escucharme. Ninguno quitó las abominaciones de delante de sus ojos, ni abandonaron los ídolos de Egipto; de modo que pensé derramar sobre ellos mi ira, para desfogar en ellos mi indignación en medio de la tierra de Egipto.

But they rebelled against me and were unwilling to listen to me. Each man did not throw away the detestable things from before his eyes nor forsake the idols of Egypt, so I determined to pour out my fury upon them to satisfy my wrath among them in the middle of the land of Egypt.

9 Mas obrando por la gloria de mi Nombre —para que este no fuese profanado a los ojos de las naciones en medio de las cuales vivían y a cuya vista me manifesté sacándoles de la tierra de Egipto—

I acted for my name's sake so it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were staying. I made myself known to them, in their eyes, by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

10 los saqué de la tierra de Egipto y los llevé al desierto.

So I sent them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.

11 Les di mis mandamientos, y les hice conocer mis juicios, por cuya observancia el hombre halla la vida.

Then I gave them my statutes and made my decrees known to them, by which a man will live if he obeys them.

12 Les di también mis sábados, para que sirvieran de señal entre Mí y ellos, y para que supiesen que Yo soy Yahvé, el que los santifica.

I also gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between myself and them, for them to know that I am Yahweh who makes them holy.

13 Pero se rebeló contra Mí la casa de Israel en el desierto; no siguieron mis mandamientos, sino que despreciaron mis juicios, por cuya observancia el hombre halla la vida, y profanaron sobremanera mis sábados, de modo que pensé derramar sobre ellos mi ira en el desierto, para exterminarlos.

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes; instead, they rejected my decrees, by which a man will live if he obeys them. They greatly profaned my Sabbaths, so I said I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness in order to end them.

14 Pero obré por la gloria de mi Nombre, para que no fuese profanado a la vista de las naciones, en cuya presencia los había sacado.

But I acted for my name's sake so it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out of Egypt.

15 Por eso, a pesar de alzar mi mano en el desierto, (jurándoles) que no los llevaría a la tierra que les había destinado, (tierra) que mana leche y miel, la joya de todas las tierras

So I myself also raised my hand to swear an oath to them in the wilderness not to bring them into the land that I had been going to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey, which was the most beautiful ornament among all the lands.

16 -porque despreciaron mis juicios y no siguieron mis mandamientos y profanaron mis sábados, pues su corazón iba tras sus ídolos—;

I swore this because they had rejected my decrees and did not walk in my statutes, and they profaned my Sabbaths, since their hearts walked after their idols.

17 mi ojo los miró con misericordia, de modo que no les quité la vida ni los exterminé en el desierto.

But my eye spared them from their destruction and I did not annihilate them in the wilderness.

18 Pero dije a sus hijos en el desierto: No sigáis las observancias de vuestros padres, ni observéis sus costumbres, ni os contaminéis con sus ídolos.

I said to their children in the wilderness, “Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, or keep their rules, or defile yourselves with their idols.

19 Yo soy Yahvé, vuestro Dios; seguid mis mandamientos, y observad mis preceptos y practicadlos.

I am Yahweh your God, walk in my statutes; keep my decrees and obey them.

20 Y santificad mis sábados, que sean una señal entre Mí y vosotros, para que sepáis que Yo soy Yahvé, vuestro Dios.

Keep my Sabbaths holy so that they will be a sign between me and you, so that you will know that I am Yahweh your God.”

21 Mas también los hijos se rebelaron contra Mí; no siguieron mis mandamientos, ni observaron mis preceptos para practicarlos, por cuya observancia el hombre halla la vida, y profanaron mis sábados, de modo que pensé derramar sobre ellos mi ira, para desfogar en ellos mi indignación en el desierto.

But their sons and daughters rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes or keep my decrees, by which a man might live if he obeys them. They profaned my Sabbaths, so I determined to pour out my fury upon them to satisfy my wrath against them in the wilderness.

22 Por eso retiré mi mano, obrando por la gloria de mi Nombre, para que no fuese profanado a los ojos de las naciones ante cuya vista los había sacado.

But I turned my hand away and acted for my name's sake, so it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought out the Israelites.

23 Nuevamente alcé mi mano en el desierto, (jurándoles) que los esparciría entre las naciones y que los dispersaría por los países,

I myself also lifted up my hand to swear to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them among the lands.

24 porque no observaron mis preceptos, sino que despreciaron mis mandamientos y profanaron mis sábados; pues sus ojos iban tras los ídolos de sus padres.

I decided to do this since they had not obeyed my decrees, and since they had rejected my statutes and profaned my Sabbaths. Their eyes were longing after their fathers' idols.

25 Por eso les di también mandamientos no buenos, y preceptos que no eran para su vida.

Then I also gave them statutes that were not good, and decrees by which they could not live.

26 Y los traté como inmundos en sus oblaciones, cuando hacían pasar (por el fuego) a todo primogénito; (lo hice) para destruirlos a fin de que conociesen que Yo soy Yahvé.

I declared them to be unclean through their gifts—they made a sacrifice of every firstborn of the womb and caused them to pass through the fire—that I might fill them with horror so they will know that I am Yahweh!'

27 Por eso, habla a la casa de Israel, oh hijo de hombre, y diles: Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: Vuestros padres me han deshonrado, entre otras infidelidades, también con esta:

Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: In this also your fathers blasphemed me when they were unfaithful to me.

28 Yo los llevé a la tierra que había jurado darles; mas ellos pusieron los ojos en todo collado alto y en todo árbol frondoso; allí ofrecieron sus sacrificios y presentaron sus ofrendas que me irritaban; allí pusieron sus suaves perfumes y derramaron sus libaciones.

When I brought them into the land that I had sworn to give them, and then whenever they saw any high hill and leafy tree, they offered their sacrifices, they provoked me by their offerings, and there they also burned their fragrant incense and poured out their drink offerings.

29 Entonces les dije: ¿Qué es esa altura adonde vais? Y lleva el nombre de altura hasta el día de hoy.

Then I said to them, “What is this high place where you bring offerings there?” So the name is called Bamah to this day.'

30 Por tanto di a la casa de Israel: Así habla Yahvé, el Señor: Vosotros os contamináis a la manera de vuestros padres y andáis fornicando tras sus abominaciones.

Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: Why do you make yourselves unclean with the ways of your fathers? So why do you act like prostitutes, searching for disgusting things?

31 Presentando vuestras ofrendas y haciendo pasar por el fuego a vuestros hijos, os habéis contaminado con todos vuestros ídolos hasta el presente. ¿Y Yo he de dejarme consultar por vosotros, oh casa de Israel? Por mi vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor, que no me dejaré consultar por vosotros.

When you offer up your gifts—when you cause your sons to pass through the fire—to this day you defile yourselves with all your idols. So why should I let you seek me, house of Israel? As I live—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration—I will not allow you to seek me.

32 No se efectuará lo que pensáis en vuestro corazón, diciendo: «Nosotros seremos como los gentiles, como los pueblos de (otros) países, sirviendo al leño y a la piedra.”

The thought that is forming in your mind will never happen. You say, “Let us be like the other nations, like the clans in the other lands who worship wood and stone.”

33 Por mi vida, dice Yahvé, el Señor, que con mano fuerte y con brazo extendido y derramando mi ira reinaré Yo sobre vosotros.

As I live—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration—I will certainly reign over you with a mighty hand, a raised arm, and fury that will be poured out on you.

34 Os sacaré de entre los pueblos y con mano fuerte, con brazo extendido y con efusión de mi ira os recogeré de los países por donde andáis dispersos,

I will bring you out from the other peoples and will gather you out of the countries among whom you have been scattered. I will do this with a mighty hand and with fury poured out.

35 y os llevaré al desierto de los pueblos, y os juzgaré allí cara a cara.

Then I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will judge you face to face.

36 Como juzgué a vuestros padres en el desierto de la tierra de Egipto, así os juzgaré a vosotros, dice Yahvé, el Señor.

As I judged your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so also I will judge you—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration.

37 Os haré pasar debajo del cayado, y os conduciré con la disciplina de la alianza.

I will cause you to pass under my rod, and I will make you obey the requirements of the covenant.

38 Y separaré de vosotros a los rebeldes, a los que han pecado contra Mí. Los sacaré de la tierra en que moran, y no entrarán en la tierra de Israel; y conoceréis que Yo soy Yahvé.

I will purge from among you the rebels and those who revolt against me. I will send them out from the land where they are staying as foreigners, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

39 Ahora vosotros, oh casa de Israel, así dice Yahvé, el Señor: ¡Id, y servid cada uno a sus ídolos! Pero después me escucharéis y no contaminaréis más mi santo nombre con vuestros dones y con vuestros ídolos.

So to you, house of Israel, the Lord Yahweh says this: Each of you should go to his own idols. Worship them if you will refuse to listen to me, but you must no longer profane my holy name with your gifts and your idols.

40 Porque en mi santo monte, en el monte excelso de Israel, dice Yahvé, el Señor, allí me servirá toda la casa de Israel, todos los que vivan en aquella tierra. Allí les seré propicio; y allí demandaré vuestras ofrendas alzadas, y las primicias de vuestros dones con todo cuanto me consagréis.

For on my holy mountain, on the mountain peak of Israel—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration—all of the house of Israel will worship me there in the land. I will be pleased to require your offerings there, and also the firstfruits of your tribute with all your holy things.

41 Os aceptaré como perfume agradable, cuando os haya sacado de entre las naciones y recogido de los países donde habéis sido dispersados; y seré santificado en vosotros a los ojos de los gentiles.

I will accept you like fragrant incense when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered. I will show myself as holy among you for the nations to see.

42 Y conoceréis que Yo soy Yahvé, cuando os haya llevado a la tierra de Israel, a la tierra que con mano alzada (he prometido) dar a vuestros padres.

Then, when I bring you to the land of Israel, to the land that I have lifted up my hand to swear to give to your fathers, you will know that I am Yahweh.

43 Allí os acordaréis de todos vuestros caminos, y de todas vuestras obras con que os habéis contaminado; y tendréis asco de vosotros mismos, por todas las maldades que habéis cometido.

There you will call to mind your conduct and all of your deeds by which you defiled yourselves, and you will despise yourselves in your own eyes for all your evil deeds that you have done.

44 Y entonces conoceréis que Yo soy Yahvé, cuando os trate conforme a mi Nombre; no conforme a vuestros malos caminos, ni conforme a vuestras perversas obras, oh casa de Israel”, dice Yahvé, el Señor.

So you will know that I am Yahweh when I do this to you because of my name's sake, and not because of your evil deeds, and not because of your corrupt deeds, house of Israel—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration.'”

45 Y me llegó la palabra de Yahvé, que dijo:

Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

46 “Hijo de hombre, vuelve tu rostro hacia el sur, y derrama (tu palabra) hacia el austro, y profetiza contra el bosque del campo del Mediodía.

“Son of man, set your face toward the southern lands, and speak against the south; prophesy against the forest of the Negev.

47 Dirás al bosque del Mediodía: ¡Escucha la palabra de Yahvé! Así dice Yahvé, el Señor: He aquí que voy a encender en ti un fuego que abrasará en ti todo árbol verde y todo árbol seco; no se extinguirá la llama del incendio; y por ella serán quemados todos los rostros, desde el sur hasta el norte.

Say to the forest of the Negev, 'This is Yahweh's declaration—the Lord Yahweh says this: See, I will set a fire among you. It will devour every fresh tree and every dried tree among you. The fiery flame will not be quenched; every face from the south to the north will be burned.

48 Y verá toda carne que Yo, Yahvé, lo he encendido y que no se extinguirá.”

Then all flesh will see that I am Yahweh when I light the fire, and it will not be quenched.'”

49 Y dije yo: “¡Ay, Señor Yahvé! ellos dicen de mí: «Él habla siempre en parábolas».”

Then I said, “Alas! Lord Yahweh, they are saying of me, 'Is he not a mere teller of parables?'”
