Eclesiastés 9

1 Sobre todas estas cosas he reflexionado en mi corazón, y he averiguado que los justos y los sabios y sus obras están en la mano de Dios. El hombre no sabe (de antemano) ni el amor ni el odio; todo está adelante de él.

For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hatred, man doesn't know it; all is before them.

2 Todo sucede igualmente a todos; una misma suerte aguarda al justo y al malhechor, al que es bueno y puro y al impuro; al que ofrece sacrificios y al que no los ofrece: al recto y al pecador; al que jura y al que teme jurar.

It is the same for all: one event to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good and to the evil, and to the clean and to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn't sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who swears is as he who fears an oath.

3 Este mal existe en todo cuanto debajo del sol acaece: una misma es la suerte de todos. Por eso el corazón de los hombres está lleno de malicia, y henchido de locura mientras viven, y después se van a morar con los muertos.

This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

4 Para el que está entre los vivos hay esperanza; más vale perro vivo que león muerto.

For to him who is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

5 Los que viven saben que han de morir, mas los muertos no saben nada; y no esperan premio, pues su memoria se ha perdido.

For the living know that they will die, but the dead do not know anything, neither do they have any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

6 Amor, odio y envidia para ellos ya no existen, y no tendrán ya parte en lo que pasa debajo del sol.

Also their love, their hatred, and their envy has perished long ago; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.

7 Ve, pues, y come gozoso tu pan, y bebe con alegre corazón tu vino; porque Dios mira ya complacido tus obras.

Go your way—eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already accepted your works.

8 Sean tus vestidos en todo tiempo blancos; y no falte en tu cabeza el perfume.

Let your garments be always white, and do not let your head lack oil.

9 Goza de la vida con tu amada esposa todos los días de tu vida fugaz, que Él te ha dado debajo del sol durante todos los días de tu existencia caediza, porque esta es tu parte en la vida, y en los trabajos que has de sufrir debajo del sol.

Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your life of vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity: for that is your portion in life, and in your labor in which you labor under the sun.

10 Todo lo que pueda hacer tu mano ejecútalo con tus fuerzas, porque en el scheol a dónde vas no hay obra, ni plan, ni ciencia, ni sabiduría. (Sheol h7585)

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going. (Sheol h7585)

11 Me volví (a examinar) y observé debajo del sol: que no es siempre de los ágiles el vencer en la carrera, ni de los valientes el triunfar en la guerra, ni de los sabios ganarse el pan, ni de los inteligentes el alcanzar riquezas, ni de los doctos el lograr favores; pues todos están sujetos al tiempo y al azar.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

12 Tampoco conoce el hombre su hora. Como los peces se prenden en la fatal red, y los pájaros en el lazo, de igual modo se enredan los hombres en el tiempo aciago que los sobrecoge de repente.

For man also doesn't know his time. As the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly on them.

13 He visto debajo del sol también este ejemplo de sabiduría, que me pareció muy significativo.

I have also seen wisdom under the sun in this way, and it seemed great to me.

14 Había una pequeña ciudad y pocos hombres en ella; vino contra ella un rey poderoso que la cercó y levantó contra ella grandes torres.

There was a little city, and few men within it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great siege works against it.

15 Y se halló en ella un hombre pobre, pero sabio, que salvó a la ciudad por su sabiduría. Mas después nadie se acordó de aquel hombre pobre.

Now a poor wise man was found in it, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

16 Y dije entonces: “Vale más la sabiduría que la fortaleza”, pero la sabiduría del pobre es despreciada, y no se hace caso de sus palabras.

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

17 Las palabras sosegadas de los sabios se oyen mejor que los gritos del que es príncipe entre insensatos.

The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him who rules among fools.

18 Más vale sabiduría que pertrechos de guerra; pero un solo pecador destruye mucho bien.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.
