Deuteronomio 8
1 Cuidad de poner en práctica todos los mandamientos que hoy os ordeno, a fin de que viváis y os multipliquéis, y entréis en posesión de la tierra que Yahvé juró dar a vuestros padres.
All the commandment which I am commanding thee to-day, shalt thou, observe, to do, —that ye may, live, and multiply, and enter in and possess the land, which Yahweh sware unto your fathers.
2 Acuérdate de todo el camino por donde Yahvé, tu Dios, te hizo andar estos cuarenta años por el desierto con el fin de humillarte y probarte, para conocer lo que había en tu corazón: si guardas o no sus mandamientos.
So then, thou shalt remember all the way in which Yahweh thy God caused thee to journey these forty years in the desert, —that he might humble thee to put thee to the proof to know what was in thy heart, —whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.
3 Te afligió y te hizo padecer hambre; y te dio a comer el maná, que tú no conocías ni habían conocido tus padres, para mostrarte que no de solo pan vive el hombre, sino de todo lo que sale de la boca de Dios.
So he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna which thou hadst not known, neither had thy fathers known, —that he might lead thee to consider that not on bread alone, shall the son of earth live, but on whatsoever cometh from the bidding of Yahweh, shall the son of earth live.
4 Tu vestido no ha envejecido sobre ti, y tu pie no se ha hinchado durante estos cuarenta años.
Thy mantle, hath not fallen with age from off thee, and, thy foot, hath not become swollen, —these forty years.
5 Reconoce, pues, en tu corazón que como un hombre corrige a su hijo, así te está instruyendo Yahvé, tu Dios.
Thou must consider, then with thy heart, —that as a man chasteneth his son, Yahweh thy God, hath been chastening thee.
6 Guarda, por tanto, los mandamientos de Yahvé, tu Dios, marchando por sus caminos y temiéndole.
Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments of Yahweh thy God, —to walk in his ways and to revere him.
7 Porque Yahvé, tu Dios, va a introducirte en una tierra buena, tierra de torrentes de agua, de fuentes y manantiales profundos, que brotan en los valles y en las montañas;
For, Yahweh thy God, is bringing thee into a good land; a land of ravines of water, of fountains and depths, coming forth in valley, and in mountain:
8 tierra de trigo y cebada, de viñas, higueras y granados, tierra de olivos, aceite y miel;
a land of wheat and barley, and vine and fig-tree, and pomegranate, —a land of olive oil, and honey:
9 tierra en que sin escasez comerás el pan y no carecerás de nada; tierra cuyas piedras son hierro y de cuyas montañas sacarás el bronce.
a land wherein not in scarcity, shalt thou eat food, thou shalt lack nothing therein, —a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest hew copper.
10 Comerás y te hartarás, y bendecirás a Yahvé, tu Dios, por la buena tierra que te ha dado.
So then thou shalt eat and be satisfied, —and bless Yahweh thy God, for the good land which he hath given unto thee.
11 Guárdate de olvidarte de Yahvé, tu Dios, dejando de observar sus mandamientos, preceptos y leyes que hoy te prescribo;
Take heed to thyself, lest thou forget Yahweh thy God, —so as not to keep his commandments and his regulations and his statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day;
12 no sea que cuando hayas comido y te hayas hartado, y cuando hayas edificado y habitado hermosas casas,
lest thou eat, and be satisfied, —and goodly houses, thou build and inhabit;
13 y después de multiplicarse tus vacadas y tus rebaños y acrecentarse tu plata y tu oro y todos tus bienes,
and thy herd and thy flock, increase, and silver and gold, increase unto thee, —and all that thou hast, increase;
14 se engría tu corazón, y te olvides de Yahvé, tu Dios, que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de la servidumbre,
and so thy heart be lifted up, —and thou forget Yahweh thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants;
15 y te condujo por ese vasto y espantoso desierto, donde había serpientes abrasadoras y escorpiones y tierra árida sin agua, pero Él te hizo salir agua de una roca durísima,
who caused thee to journey through the great and terrible desert, of fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty wastes where was no water, —who brought forth for thee water out of the flinty rock;
16 y en el desierto te dio a comer el maná que no conocieron tus padres, para humillarte y probarte y al fin hacerte bien.
who fed thee with manna in the desert, which thy fathers had not known, —that he might humble thee, and that he might put thee to the proof, to do thee good in thy hereafter,
17 No digas, pues, en tu corazón: Mi poder y la fuerza de mi mano me han procurado esta prosperidad.
and lest thou shouldest say in thy heart, —Mine own strength and the might of mine own hand, have gotten me this wealth.
18 Antes bien, acuérdate de Yahvé, tu Dios; porque Él es quien te da poder para adquirir riquezas, a fin de cumplir, como se ve hoy, la alianza que juró a tus padres.
But thou shalt remember Yahweh thy God, that it was, he, who had been giving thee strength to get wealth, —that so he might establish his covenant which he sware to thy fathers (as at this day).
19 Mas si, olvidado por completo de Yahvé, tu Dios, andas tras otros dioses, rindiéndoles culto y postrándote delante de ellos, os protesto el día de hoy que pereceréis sin remedio.
But it shall be if thou forget, Yahweh thy God, and go after ether gods, and serve them, and bow thyself down to them, I testify against you to-day, that ye shall perish:
20 Como las naciones que Yahvé va exterminando delante de vosotros, así también vosotros pereceréis por no haber escuchado la voz de Yahvé, vuestro Dios.
like the nations which, Yahweh, is causing to perish from before you, so, shall ye perish, because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh your God.
