1 Samuel 5

1 Los filisteos que habían tomado el Arca de Dios, la llevaron de Ebenéser a Azoto.

Now, the Philistines, having taken the ark of God, —brought it in from Eben-ezer, unto Ashdod.

2 Y tomaron los filisteos el Arca de Dios y la metieron en la casa de Dagón, donde la colocaron junto a Dagón.

And, when the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, —and placed it by the side of Dagon.

3 Mas cuando al día siguiente los habitantes de Azoto se levantaron muy temprano, vieron a Dagón tendido de bruces en tierra, delante del Arca de Yahvé, y tomaron a Dagón y le pusieron otra vez a su lugar.

And, when they of Ashdod rose early on the morrow and entered into the house of Dagon, they looked and lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh, —so they took Dagon and restored him to his place.

4 Pero cuando al día siguiente se levantaron muy de mañana, vieron a Dagón (de nuevo) tendido en tierra sobre su rostro delante del Arca de Yahvé, y la cabeza de Dagón y las dos palmas de sus manos yacían cortadas sobre el umbral de la puerta, quedándole solamente (el tronco en) forma de pez.

And, when they rose up early in the morning of the morrow, lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh—and, the head of Dagon, and both the palms of his hands, had been cut off against the threshold, only, Dagon himself, was left to him.

5 Por eso los sacerdotes de Dagón, y cuantos entran en la casa de Dagón en Azoto, no ponen el pie sobre el umbral de la puerta de Dagón, hasta el día de hoy.

For this cause, do not the priests of Dagon, nor any that enter into the house of Dagon, tread upon the threshold of Dagon, in Ashdod, —until this day.

6 Pero la mano de Yahvé pesaba mucho sobre los de Azoto, e hizo entre ellos estragos, hiriéndolos con tumores, tanto en Azoto como en su territorio.

Then was the hand of Yahweh heavy against them of Ashdod, and he astounded them, —and smote with tumours Ashdod and her bounds.

7 Viendo los hombres de Azoto lo que pasaba, decían: “¡No quede entre nosotros el Arca del Dios de Israel!, porque su mano pesa sobre nosotros y sobre Dagón, nuestro dios.”

And, when the men of Ashdod saw that, so, it was, then kept they saying, Let not the ark of the God of Israel abide with us, for, hard, is his hand upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

8 Convocaron, pues, a todos los príncipes de los filisteos para que se reunieran con ellos, y preguntaron: “¿Qué haremos con el Arca del Dios de Israel?” Respondieron: “Pásese el Arca del Dios de Israel a Gat.” Pasaron, pues, el Arca del Dios de Israel.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said—What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they said: To Gath, let the ark of the God of Israel go round. So they took round the ark of the God of Israel.

9 Pero después de trasladarla descargó la mano de Yahvé sobre la ciudad, causando grandísimo espanto; pues hirió a los hombres de la ciudad, desde los chicos hasta los grandes, de modo que les brotaron tumores.

And so it was, after they had taken it round, then was the hand of Yahweh against the city, with an exceeding great consternation, and he smote the men of the city, from the least, even unto the greatest, —and they brake out with tumours.

10 Entonces enviaron el Arca de Dios a Acarón. Mas apenas había llegado el Arca de Dios a Acarón, los acaronitas dieron gritos, exclamando: “¡Han pasado hasta nosotros el Arca del Dios de Israel para matarnos, a nosotros y a nuestro pueblo!”

Then sent they the ark of God to Ekron, —and so it was, when the ark of God entered Ekron, that the Ekronites made outcry, saying—They have brought round unto me the ark of the God of Israel, to slay me, and my people!

11 Llamaron, pues, a reunión a todos los príncipes de los filisteos; los cuales dijeron: “Devolved el Arca del Dios de Israel, y vuélvase ella a su lugar, para que no nos mate a nosotros y a nuestro pueblo.” Pues reinaba en toda la ciudad un terror mortal, porque la mano de Yahvé pesaba mucho sobre ella.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said—Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and restore it to its own place, that it slay not me, and my people. For there had come a deadly consternation, throughout all the city, heavy exceedingly, was the hand of God there.

12 Aun los que no morían, estaban llagados de tumores; y los gritos de la ciudad subieron al cielo.

And, the men who died not, were smitten with the tumours, —so the cry of the city for help, ascended the heavens.
