1 Zvino Jesu azere neMweya Mutsvene wakadzoka achibva paJoridhani, akatungamirirwa neMweya kurenje,
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
2 achiidzwa nadhiabhorosi mazuva makumi mana. Uye wakange asingadyi chinhu nemazuva iwayo; zvino akati apera pakupedzisira akazonzwa nzara.
for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. When they were completed, he was hungry.
3 Zvino dhiabhorosi akati kwaari: Kana uri Mwanakomana waMwari, udza ibwe iri kuti rive chingwa.
The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."
4 Jesu akamupindura, achiti: Kwakanyorwa kuti: Munhu haangararami nechingwa chete, asi neshoko rimwe nerimwe raMwari.
Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Humankind cannot live by bread alone.'"
5 Dhiabhorosi ndokumutungamidza pagomo refu, akamuratidza ushe hwese hwenyika nenguva diki-diki.
And leading him up to a high mountain, the devil showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 Dhiabhorosi ndokuti kwaari: Simba iri rese ndichakupa nekukudzwa kwahwo, nokuti ndakaripiwa ini, uye ndinoripa ani nani wandinoda.
The devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority, and their glory, for it has been delivered to me; and I give it to whomever I want.
7 Naizvozvo iwe kana ukandinamata pamberi pangu, zvese zvichava zvako.
If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours."
8 Jesu akapindura akati kwaari: Ibva shure kwangu, Satani; nokuti kwakanyorwa kuchinzi: Uchanamata Ishe, Mwari wako, uye umushumire iye ega.
Jesus answered and said to him, "It is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"
9 Akamutungamirira kuJerusarema, akamuisa pachiruvu chetembere, akati kwaari: Kana uri Mwanakomana waMwari, zviwisire pasi uchibva pano;
He led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here,
10 nokuti kwakanyorwa kuchinzi: Acharaira vatumwa vake pamusoro pako, kuti vakuchengete;
for it is written, 'He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you;'
11 uye: Pamaoko vachakugamha, zvimwe ungagumbusa rutsoka rwako pabwe.
and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.'"
12 Jesu achipindura, akati kwaari: Kwakanzi: Usaidza Ishe Mwari wako.
And Jesus, answering, said to him, "It is said, 'Do not test the Lord, your God.'"
13 Dhiabhorosi akati apedza muedzo wese, akabva kwaari kusvikira pane imwe nguva.
When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until another time.
14 Zvino Jesu wakadzokera kuGarirea nesimba reMweya; mukurumbira maererano naye ukabudira kudunhu rese rakapoteredza.
Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area.
15 Iye ndokudzidzisa mumasinagoge avo, achikudzwa nevese.
He taught in their synagogues, being praised by all.
16 Akasvika paNazareta, paakange arerwa; netsika yake wakapinda musinagoge nemusi wesabata, akasimuka kuti averenge.
He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
17 Akapiwa rugwaro rwemuporofita Isaya. Zvino wakati azarura rugwaro, akawana nzvimbo pakange pakanyorwa kuti:
The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him, and unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,
18 Mweya waIshe uri pamusoro pangu, naizvozvo wakandizodza, kuti ndiparidzire evhangeri kuvarombo; wakandituma kuti ndiporese vakaputsika pamoyo, kuparidza kusunungurwa kuna vakatapwa, nekuona kumapofu, ndisunungure vakatsikirirwa,
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,
19 kudanidzira gore rakanaka raIshe.
and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
20 Akapeta rugwaro, akadzosera kumuranda, akagara pasi; meso avese vaiva musinagoge akamutarisisa.
He closed the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 Zvino akatanga kuti kwavari: Nhasi rugwaro urwu rwazadziswa munzeve dzenyu.
He began to tell them, "Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
22 Vese vakamupupurira, vakashamisika nemashoko enyasha akabuda mumuromo make, vakati: Uyu haasi mwanakomana waJosefa here?
All testified about him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth, and they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"
23 Akati kwavari: Zvirokwazvo muchataura kwandiri dimikira iri: Murapi, zvirape iwe; zvese zvatakanzwa zvakaitwa paKapenaume, zviitewo muno munyika yekwako.
He said to them, "Doubtless you will tell me this parable, 'Physician, heal yourself. Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.'"
24 Iye ndokuti: Zvirokwazvo, ndinoti kwamuri: Hakuna muporofita anogamuchirwa munyika yekwake.
He said, "Truly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.
25 Asi chokwadi ndinoti kwamuri: Chirikadzi zhinji dzaivako kuna Israeri pamazuva aEria, apo denga rakavharwa kwemakore matatu nemwedzi mitanhatu, zvekuti kwakava nenzara huru panyika yese;
But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.
26 asi Eria haana kutumwa kune umwe wavo, kunze kwekuSarepita yeSidhoni, kumukadzi chirikadzi.
Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
27 Uye vane maperembudzi vazhinji vaivako kuna Israeri panguva yemuporofita Erisha; asi hakuna umwe wavo wakanatswa, kunze kwaNaamani muSiriya.
There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian."
28 Ipapo vese vakange vari musinagoge vakazara nehasha, vachinzwa zvinhu izvi.
They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue, as they heard these things.
29 Ndokusimuka, vakamusundidzira kunze kweguta, vakauya naye kusvika pamawere pegomo, pakange pakavakwa guta ravo, kuti vamuposhere pasi.
They rose up, threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff.
30 Asi iye wakapfuura nepakati pavo akaenda.
But he, passing through the midst of them, went his way.
31 Wakabva aburukira Kapenaume, guta reGarirea; uye aivadzidzisa nemasabata.
He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath day,
32 Vakashamisika nedzidziso yake, nokuti shoko rake rakange rine simba.
and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.
33 Zvino musinagoge makange mune munhu aiva ane mweya wedhimoni retsvina; ukadanidzira nenzwi guru,
In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon, and he shouted with a loud voice,
34 ukati: Regai! Tinei nemwi Jesu muNazareta? Mauya kuzotiparadza here? Ndinokuzivai kuti ndimwi ani: Mutsvene waMwari.
saying, "Ah. What have we to do with you, Jesus, Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are — the Holy One of God."
35 Zvino Jesu akautsiura, achiti: Nyarara, ubude kwaari! Dhimoni rakati ramuwisira pakati, rikabuda kwaari, risina kumukuvadza.
Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him." When the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.
36 Kushamisika kukavasvikira vese, vakataurirana pachavo, vachiti: Ishoko ripi iri? Nokuti nesimba nechikuriri anoraira mweya yetsvina, ikabuda.
Amazement came on all, and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."
37 Mukurumbira maererano naye ukabuda kunzvimbo dzese dzedunhu rakapoteredza.
News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.
38 Zvino wakasimuka akabuda musinagoge, akapinda mumba maSimoni; zvino mai vemukadzi waSimoni vakange vakabatwa nefivhiri huru; vakamukumbirira kwaari.
He rose up from the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they appealed to him about her.
39 Zvino akakotamira pamusoro pavo, akatsiura fivhiri, ikavarega; uye pakarepo vakasimuka vakavashandira.
He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her. Immediately she rose up and served them.
40 Zvino zuva rakati rovira, vese vaiva nevarwere vezvirwere zvakasiyana-siyana vakavauisa kwaari; akaisa maoko pamusoro peumwe neumwe wavo akavaporesa.
When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 Nemadhimoni akabuda kuvazhinji, achidanidzira achiti: Imwi muri Kristu Mwanakomana waMwari. Akaatsiura akasaatendera kutaura, nokuti akange achiziva kuti ndiKristu.
Demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
42 Zvino kwakati kwaedza, akabuda, akaenda kunzvimbo yerenje, zvaunga zvikamutsvaka, zvikauya kwaari, zvikamudzivirira kuti arege kubva kwazviri.
When it was day, he departed and went into an uninhabited place, and the crowds looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he would not go away from them.
43 Asi wakati kwavari: Ndinofanira kuparidzira evhangeri yeushe hwaMwari kumamwe magutawo; nokuti ndizvo zvandakatumirwa.
But he said to them, "I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent."
44 Akasiparidza mumasinagoge eGarirea.
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
