1 Zvino chaunga chavo chese chakasimuka, chikamutungamidza kuna Pirato.
Then the whole company rose up and brought him to Pilate,
2 Zvino vakatanga kumupomera, vachiti: Tawana uyu achitsausa rudzi, nekudzivisa kupa mitero kuna Kesari, achiti iye pachake ndiKristu Mambo.
and began to accuse him. "We have found this fellow perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and proclaiming that he is the Messiah and King."
3 Zvino Pirato wakamubvunza achiti: Iwe uri Mambo weVaJudha here? Ndokumupindura, akati: Unoreva iwe.
Then Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" And he answered him saying, "Certainly I am."
4 Pirato ndokuti kuvapristi vakuru nezvaunga: Handiwani mhosva kumunhu uyu.
And Pilate said to the chief priest and the crowd, "I find no harm in this man."
5 Asi vakasimbisa, vachiti: Unonyonganisa vanhu, achidzidzisa muJudhiya rese, kutanga paGarirea kusvikira pano.
But they repeatedly insisted, "He is stirring up the people throughout all Judea with his teaching which started from Galilee."
6 Pirato wakati anzwa zveGarirea, akabvunza kana munhu uyu ari muGarirea.
When Pilate heard the word "Galilee" he asked if the man were a Galilean,
7 Zvino paakangoziva kuti ndeweushe hwaHerodhe, wakamutumira kuna Herodhe, iye waivawo muJerusarema pamazuva iwayo.
and when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction he sent him to Herod, who himself happened to be in Jerusalem during those days.
8 Zvino Herodhe paakaona Jesu wakafara zvikurusa; nokuti waishuva kumuona kwenguva refu, nokuti wakange anzwa zvinhu zvizhinji pamusoro pake; uye wakatarisira kuona chimwe chiratidzo chichiitwa naye.
Now when Herod saw Jesus he was exceedingly glad. He had long been wanting to see him, because he had heard so much about him, and was hoping to see some miracles performed by him.
9 Ndokumubvunza nemashoko mazhinji; asi iye haana kumupindura chinhu.
So he had been asking him many questions, but Jesus made no answers.
10 Zvino vapristi vakuru nevanyori vakamira vakamupomera zvine simba.
Meanwhile the high priests and Scribes were standing around, and continually making accusations to him against him.
11 NaHerodhe nemauto ake wakamuzvidza, nekuseka akamupfekedza nguvo refu inobwinya, akamudzosera kuna Pirato.
Then Herod and his soldiers set him at naught, and mocked him, and throwing about him a gorgeous robe, sent him back to Pilate.
12 Nemusi iwoyo Pirato naHerodhe vakava shamwari neshamwari; nokuti paimbova neruvengo pakati pavo.
Herod and Pilate became friends again from that very day; for before they had been at enmity between themselves.
13 Zvino Pirato wakati adanira pamwe vapristi vakuru nevatungamiriri nevanhu,
So Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 akati kwavari: Mauisa munhu uyu kwandiri seanotsausa vanhu; zvino tarirai ini ndaongorora pamberi penyu, handina kuwana mhosva kumunhu uyu yezvinhu zvamunomupomera;
and said to them. "You brought before me this man as one who incited the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence, and I find no fault in this man regarding the charges that you brought against him.
15 kwete, kunyange Herodhe; nokuti ndinokutumai kwaari; zvino tarirai, hapana chakafanira rufu chakaitwa naye.
Neither does Herod; for he sent him back to us. You see that he has done nothing worthy of death.
16 Naizvozvo ndichamurova ndigomusunungura.
I will therefore, after flogging him, release him."
17 Nokuti zvaiva zvakafanira kuti avasunungurire umwe pamutambo.
"Now he had to release to them at the feast one prisoner."
18 Asi vese vakadanidzira pamwe vachiti: Kure neuyu, asi mutisunungurire Bharabhasi.
Then the whole crowd shouted out, "Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas."
19 Iye wakange akandirwa mutirongo nemhaka yerimwe bongozozo rakange raitika muguta uye neumhondi.
(This was a man who had been thrown in prison on account of a riot which had occurred in the city, and for murder.)
20 Naizvozvo Pirato achida kusunungura Jesu, wakataurazve kwavari.
Then Pilate spoke to them again, because he wished to release Jesus;
21 Asi vakadanidzira, vachiti: Roverera pamuchinjikwa, muroverere pamuchinjikwa!
but they continued to shout out and say, "Crucify! Crucify him!"
22 Akati kwavari rwechitatu: Nemhaka yei, iye waita chakaipa chipi? Handina kuwana mhosva yerufu maari; naizvozvo ndichamurova ndigomusunungura.
For the third time he appealed to them. "But what crime has he committed? I have found in him nothing that deserves death. I will therefore flog him, and let him go."
23 Asi vakasimbisa nemanzwi makuru, vachikumbira kuti arovererwe pamuchinjikwa. Manzwi avo neevapristi vakuru akabudirira.
But they kept shouting the more insistently, demanding that he should be crucified, and their shouts won the day.
24 Zvino Pirato wakatema kuti chikumbiro chavo chiitike.
So Pilate gave sentence what they wished should be done.
25 Akavasunungurira uyo wavakakumbira, wakange akandwa mutirongo nekuda kwebongozozo neumhondi; asi akakumikidza Jesu kuchido chavo.
He released the man who had been put in prison for riot and murder, the man whom they asked for; but Jesus he handed over to their will.
26 Zvino vakati vachimutungamidza, vakabata umwe Simoni muKurini achibva kuruwa, vakamutakudza muchinjikwa, kuti atakure shure kwaJesu.
And when they led him away they took hold of Simon, a Cyrenean, who was coming in from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it behind Jesus.
27 Zvino kwakatevera kwaari chaunga chikuru chevanhu, nevakadzi vairirawo nekumuchema.
He was also followed by a great crowd of people, and of women too, who were beating their breast and lamenting him.
28 Asi Jesu wakatendeukira kwavari akati: Vakunda veJerusarema, musachemera ini, asi muzvichemere imwi nevana venyu;
But Jesus turned to and said. "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me;
29 nokuti tarirai, mazuva anouya avachati nawo: Dzakaropafadzwa mhanje, nezvizvaro zvisina kubereka, nemazamu asina kunwisa.
"but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they shall say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have never bore children, and the breasts that never suckled.’
30 Ipapo vachatanga kuti kumakomo: Wirai pamusoro pedu; nekuzvikomo: Tifukidzei.
"Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’
31 Nokuti kana vachiita zvinhu izvi kumuti munyoro, chii chichaitika kune wakawoma?
"For if this is what they do in the green tree, what will they do in the dry?"
32 Zvino kwakatungamidzwawo vamwe vaiti vezvakaipa vaviri, kuti vaurawe pamwe naye.
And there were led out with him to be executed, two criminals also.

34 Jesu ndokuti: Baba, vakanganwirei; nokuti havazivi chavanoita. Zvino vakagovana nguvo dzake, vakakanda mujenya.
Jesus kept saying, "Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided his garments among them, casting lots for them,
35 Vanhu ndokumira vakatarira. Nevatongiwo pamwe navo vakamuseka, vachiti: Wakaponesa vamwe, ngaazviponese, kana iye ari Kristu, musanangurwa waMwari.
and the people stood looking on. Even the rulers repeatedly taunted him, saying, "He saved others, let him save himself, if this fellow is indeed the Christ of God, His Chosen One!"
36 Nemautowo akamuseka, achimuvigira vhiniga,
Even the soldiers made sport of him by coming up and offering him sour wine,

38 Zvino kwakange kune rugwarowo rwakanyorwa pamusoro pake nemavara echiGiriki nechiRoma nechiHebheru, rwaiti: UYU NDIMAMBO WEVAJUDHA.

And one of the criminals who had been hung there kept reviling him, saying. "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us."
40 Asi umwe wakapindura achimutsiura, achiti: Iwe hautyi Mwari kanhi, zvauri pakutongwa kumwe?
But the other, answering, reproved him, saying. "Have you no fear of God even? When you are suffering the same punishment as he?
41 Isu zvirokwazvo zvakarurama, nokuti tinogamuchira zvakafanira zvatakaita; asi uyu haana kuita chinhu chisakafanira.
"We indeed justly, for we are receiving due retribution for what we have done. But he has done no wrong."
42 Zvino akati kuna Jesu: Ishe mundirangarire kana masvika muushe hwenyu.
Then he added, "Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom."
43 Jesu ndokuti kwaari: Zvirokwazvo ndinoti kwauri: Nhasi uchava neni muParadhiso.
"In solemn truth I tell you," said Jesus, "that this day you shall be with me in Paradise."
44 Zvino rakange rava awa rinenge rechitanhatu; kukavapo rima pamusoro penyika yese, kusvikira paawa repfumbamwe.

Then with a loud cry, Jesus said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit!" And after uttering these words, he yielded up his spirit.
47 Zvino mukuru wezana wakati aona zvakaitika, akarumbidza Mwari, achiti: Zvirokwazvo munhu uyu wakange akarurama.
When the army captain saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, "This man was really innocent!"
48 Nezvaunga zvese zvakange zvakaungana kuzoona izvozvi, zvakati zvichiona zvakaitika, zvikadzokera zvichizvirova zvifuva.
And all the crowds who had assembled to see this spectacle, after witnessing what had been done, were returning beating upon their breast.
49 Nevazikanwi vake vese, nevakadzi vaimutevera vachibva Garirea, vakamira kure, vachiona zvinhu izvi.
But all his acquaintances and the women who had been his followers continued to stand at a distance, looking on.
