1 yaavanto lokaa yugadhaari. no daasaa. h santi te svasvasvaamina. m puur. nasamaadarayogya. m manyantaa. m no ced ii"svarasya naamna upade"sasya ca nindaa sambhavi. syati|
Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine may not be blasphemed.
2 ye. saa nca svaamino vi"svaasina. h bhavanti taiste bhraat. rtvaat naavaj neyaa. h kintu te karmmaphalabhogino vi"svaasina. h priyaa"sca bhavantiiti heto. h sevaniiyaa eva, tvam etaani "sik. saya samupadi"sa ca|
And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, from which cometh envy, strife, railings, evil suspicions,

Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
6 sa. myatecchayaa yuktaa ye"svarabhakti. h saa mahaalaabhopaayo bhavatiiti satya. m|
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 etajjagatprave"sanakaale. asmaabhi. h kimapi naanaayi tattayajanakaale. api kimapi netu. m na "sak. syata iti ni"scita. m|
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 ataeva khaadyaanyaacchaadanaani ca praapyaasmaabhi. h santu. s.tai rbhavitavya. m|
And having food and raiment with these let us be content.
9 ye tu dhanino bhavitu. m ce. s.tante te pariik. saayaam unmaathe patanti ye caabhilaa. saa maanavaan vinaa"se narake ca majjayanti taad. r"se. svaj naanaahitaabhilaa. se. svapi patanti|
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 yato. arthasp. rhaa sarvve. saa. m duritaanaa. m muula. m bhavati taamavalambya kecid vi"svaasaad abhra. m"santa naanaakle"sai"sca svaan avidhyan|
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some have coveted, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 he ii"svarasya loka tvam etebhya. h palaayya dharmma ii"svarabhakti rvi"svaasa. h prema sahi. s.nutaa k. saanti"scaitaanyaacara|
But thou, O man of God, flee from these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Who in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
20 he tiimathiya, tvam upanidhi. m gopaya kaalpanikavidyaayaa apavitra. m pralaapa. m virodhokti nca tyaja ca,
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
21 yata. h katipayaa lokaastaa. m vidyaamavalambya vi"svaasaad bhra. s.taa abhavana| prasaadastava sahaayo bhuuyaat| aamen|
