มถิ: 23
1 อนนฺตรํ ยีศุ รฺชนนิวหํ ศิษฺยำศฺจาวทตฺ,
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
2 อธฺยาปกา: ผิรูศินศฺจ มูสาสเน อุปวิศนฺติ,
saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
3 อตเสฺต ยุษฺมานฺ ยทฺยตฺ มนฺตุมฺ อาชฺญาปยนฺติ, ตตฺ มนฺยธฺวํ ปาลยธฺวญฺจ, กินฺตุ เตษำ กรฺมฺมานุรูปํ กรฺมฺม น กุรุธฺวํ; ยตเสฺตษำ วากฺยมาตฺรํ สารํ การฺเยฺย กิมปิ นาสฺติฯ
All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
4 เต ทุรฺวฺวหานฺ คุรุตรานฺ ภารานฺ พทฺวฺวา มนุษฺยาณำ สฺกนฺเธปริ สมรฺปยนฺติ, กินฺตุ สฺวยมงฺคุไลฺยกยาปิ น จาลยนฺติฯ
For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
5 เกวลํ โลกทรฺศนาย สรฺวฺวกรฺมฺมาณิ กุรฺวฺวนฺติ; ผลต: ปฏฺฏพนฺธานฺ ปฺรสารฺยฺย ธารยนฺติ, สฺววสฺเตฺรษุ จ ทีรฺฆคฺรนฺถีนฺ ธารยนฺติ;
But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
6 โภชนภวน อุจฺจสฺถานํ, ภชนภวเน ปฺรธานมาสนํ,
and love the place of honour at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
7 หฏฺเฐ นมสฺการํ คุรุริติ สมฺโพธนญฺไจตานิ สรฺวฺวาณิ วาญฺฉนฺติฯ
the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
8 กินฺตุ ยูยํ คุรว อิติ สมฺโพธนียา มา ภวต, ยโต ยุษฺมากมฺ เอก: ขฺรีษฺเฏอว คุรุ
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
9 รฺยูยํ สรฺเวฺว มิโถ ภฺราตรศฺจฯ ปุน: ปฺฤถิวฺยำ กมปิ ปิเตติ มา สมฺพุธฺยธฺวํ, ยโต ยุษฺมากเมก: สฺวรฺคสฺเถอว ปิตาฯ
Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
10 ยูยํ นายเกติ สมฺภาษิตา มา ภวต, ยโต ยุษฺมากเมก: ขฺรีษฺเฏอว นายก: ฯ
Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
11 อปรํ ยุษฺมากํ มเธฺย ย: ปุมานฺ เศฺรษฺฐ: ส ยุษฺมานฺ เสวิษฺยเตฯ
But he who is greatest amongst you will be your servant.
12 ยโต ย: สฺวมุนฺนมติ, ส นต: กริษฺยเต; กินฺตุ ย: กศฺจิตฺ สฺวมวนตํ กโรติ, ส อุนฺนต: กริษฺยเตฯ
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13 หนฺต กปฏิน อุปาธฺยายา: ผิรูศินศฺจ, ยูยํ มนุชานำ สมกฺษํ สฺวรฺคทฺวารํ รุนฺธ, ยูยํ สฺวยํ เตน น ปฺรวิศถ, ปฺรวิวิกฺษูนปิ วารยถฯ วต กปฏิน อุปาธฺยายา: ผิรูศินศฺจ ยูยํ ฉลาทฺ ทีรฺฆํ ปฺรารฺถฺย วิธวานำ สรฺวฺวสฺวํ คฺรสถ, ยุษฺมากํ โฆรตรทณฺโฑ ภวิษฺยติฯ
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretence you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
14 หนฺต กปฏิน อุปาธฺยายา: ผิรูศินศฺจ, ยูยเมกํ สฺวธรฺมฺมาวลมฺพินํ กรฺตฺตุํ สาครํ ภูมณฺฑลญฺจ ปฺรทกฺษิณีกุรุถ,
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 วต อนฺธปถทรฺศกา: สรฺเวฺว, ยูยํ วทถ, มนฺทิรสฺย ศปถกรณาตฺ กิมปิ น เทยํ; กินฺตุ มนฺทิรสฺถสุวรฺณสฺย ศปถกรณาทฺ เทยํฯ
“Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
17 เห มูฒา เห อนฺธา: สุวรฺณํ ตตฺสุวรฺณปาวกมนฺทิรมฺ เอตโยรุภโย รฺมเธฺย กึ เศฺรย: ?
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18 อนฺยจฺจ วทถ, ยชฺญเวทฺยา: ศปถกรณาตฺ กิมปิ น เทยํ, กินฺตุ ตทุปริสฺถิตสฺย ไนเวทฺยสฺย ศปถกรณาทฺ เทยํฯ
And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
19 เห มูฒา เห อนฺธา: , ไนเวทฺยํ ตนฺไนเวทฺยปาวกเวทิเรตโยรุภโย รฺมเธฺย กึ เศฺรย: ?
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20 อต: เกนจิทฺ ยชฺญเวทฺยา: ศปเถ กฺฤเต ตทุปริสฺถสฺย สรฺวฺวสฺย ศปถ: กฺริยเตฯ
He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
21 เกนจิตฺ มนฺทิรสฺย ศปเถ กฺฤเต มนฺทิรตนฺนิวาสิโน: ศปถ: กฺริยเตฯ
He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
22 เกนจิตฺ สฺวรฺคสฺย ศปเถ กฺฤเต อีศฺวรียสึหาสนตทุปรฺยฺยุปวิษฺฏโย: ศปถ: กฺริยเตฯ
He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
23 หนฺต กปฏิน อุปาธฺยายา: ผิรูศินศฺจ, ยูยํ โปทินายา: สิตจฺฉตฺรายา ชีรกสฺย จ ทศมำศานฺ ทตฺถ, กินฺตุ วฺยวสฺถายา คุรุตรานฺ นฺยายทยาวิศฺวาสานฺ ปริตฺยชถ; อิเม ยุษฺมาภิราจรณียา อมี จ น ลํฆนียา: ฯ
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
24 เห อนฺธปถทรฺศกา ยูยํ มศกานฺ อปสารยถ, กินฺตุ มหางฺคานฺ คฺรสถฯ
You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
25 หนฺต กปฏิน อุปาธฺยายา: ผิรูศินศฺจ, ยูยํ ปานปาตฺราณำ โภชนปาตฺราณาญฺจ พหิ: ปริษฺกุรุถ; กินฺตุ ตทภฺยนฺตรํ ทุราตฺมตยา กลุเษณ จ ปริปูรฺณมาเสฺตฯ
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
26 เห อนฺธา: ผิรูศิโลกา อาเทา ปานปาตฺราณำ โภชนปาตฺราณาญฺจาภฺยนฺตรํ ปริษฺกุรุต, เตน เตษำ พหิรปิ ปริษฺการิษฺยเตฯ
You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
27 หนฺต กปฏิน อุปาธฺยายา: ผิรูศินศฺจ, ยูยํ ศุกฺลีกฺฤตศฺมศานสฺวรูปา ภวถ, ยถา ศฺมศานภวนสฺย พหิศฺจารุ, กินฺตฺวภฺยนฺตรํ มฺฤตโลกานำ กีกไศ: สรฺวฺวปฺรการมเลน จ ปริปูรฺณมฺ;
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
28 ตไถว ยูยมปิ โลกานำ สมกฺษํ พหิรฺธารฺมฺมิกา: กินฺตฺวนฺต: กรเณษุ เกวลกาปฏฺยาธรฺมฺมาภฺยำ ปริปูรฺณา: ฯ
Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 หา หา กปฏิน อุปาธฺยายา: ผิรูศินศฺจ, ยูยํ ภวิษฺยทฺวาทินำ ศฺมศานเคหํ นิรฺมฺมาถ, สาธูนำ ศฺมศานนิเกตนํ โศภยถ
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
30 วทถ จ ยทิ วยํ เสฺวษำ ปูรฺวฺวปุรุษาณำ กาล อสฺถาสฺยาม, ตรฺหิ ภวิษฺยทฺวาทินำ โศณิตปาตเน เตษำ สหภาคิโน นาภวิษฺยามฯ
and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
31 อโต ยูยํ ภวิษฺยทฺวาทิฆาตกานำ สนฺตานา อิติ สฺวยเมว เสฺวษำ สากฺษฺยํ ทตฺถฯ
Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
32 อโต ยูยํ นิชปูรฺวฺวปุรุษาณำ ปริมาณปาตฺรํ ปริปูรยตฯ
Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgement of Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
34 ปศฺยต, ยุษฺมากมนฺติกมฺ อหํ ภวิษฺยทฺวาทิโน พุทฺธิมต อุปาธฺยายำศฺจ เปฺรษยิษฺยามิ, กินฺตุ เตษำ กติปยา ยุษฺมาภิ รฺฆานิษฺยนฺเต, กฺรุเศ จ ฆานิษฺยนฺเต, เกจิทฺ ภชนภวเน กษาภิราฆานิษฺยนฺเต, นคเร นคเร ตาฑิษฺยนฺเต จ;
Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35 เตน สตฺปุรุษสฺย หาพิโล รกฺตปาตมารภฺย เพริขิย: ปุตฺรํ ยํ สิขริยํ ยูยํ มนฺทิรยชฺญเวโทฺย รฺมเธฺย หตวนฺต: , ตทียโศณิตปาตํ ยาวทฺ อสฺมินฺ เทเศ ยาวตำ สาธุปุรุษาณำ โศณิตปาโต 'ภวตฺ ตตฺ สรฺเวฺวษามาคสำ ทณฺฑา ยุษฺมาสุ วรฺตฺติษฺยนฺเตฯ
that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
36 อหํ ยุษฺมานฺต ตถฺยํ วทามิ, วิทฺยมาเน'สฺมินฺ ปุรุเษ สรฺเวฺว วรฺตฺติษฺยนฺเตฯ
Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37 เห ยิรูศาลมฺ เห ยิรูศาลมฺ นคริ ตฺวํ ภวิษฺยทฺวาทิโน หตวตี, ตว สมีปํ เปฺรริตำศฺจ ปาษาไณราหตวตี, ยถา กุกฺกุฏี ศาวกานฺ ปกฺษาธ: สํคฺฤหฺลาติ, ตถา ตว สนฺตานานฺ สํคฺรหีตุํ อหํ พหุวารมฺ ไอจฺฉํ; กินฺตุ ตฺวํ น สมมนฺยถา: ฯ
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
38 ปศฺยต ยษฺมากํ วาสสฺถานมฺ อุจฺฉินฺนํ ตฺยกฺษฺยเตฯ
Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
39 อหํ ยุษฺมานฺ ตถฺยํ วทามิ, ย: ปรเมศฺวรสฺย นามฺนาคจฺฉติ, ส ธนฺย อิติ วาณีํ ยาวนฺน วทิษฺยถ, ตาวตฺ มำ ปุน รฺน ทฺรกฺษฺยถฯ
For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
