1 อีศฺวรสฺย ปฺรโภ รฺยีศุขฺรีษฺฏสฺย จ ทาโส ยากูพฺ วิกีรฺณีภูตานฺ ทฺวาทศํ วํศานฺ ปฺรติ นมสฺกฺฤตฺย ปตฺรํ ลิขติฯ
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are in the Dispersion: Greetings.
2 เห มม ภฺราตร: , ยูยํ ยทา พหุวิธปรีกฺษาษุ นิปตต ตทา ตตฺ ปูรฺณานนฺทสฺย การณํ มนฺยธฺวํฯ
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,
3 ยโต ยุษฺมากํ วิศฺวาสสฺย ปรีกฺษิตเตฺวน ไธรฺยฺยํ สมฺปาทฺยต อิติ ชานีถฯ
knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
4 ตจฺจ ไธรฺยฺยํ สิทฺธผลํ ภวตุ เตน ยูยํ สิทฺธา: สมฺปูรฺณาศฺจ ภวิษฺยถ กสฺยาปิ คุณสฺยาภาวศฺจ ยุษฺมากํ น ภวิษฺยติฯ
Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 ยุษฺมากํ กสฺยาปิ ชฺญานาภาโว ยทิ ภเวตฺ ตรฺหิ ย อีศฺวร: สรลภาเวน ติรสฺการญฺจ วินา สรฺเวฺวโภฺย ททาติ ตต: ส ยาจตำ ตตสฺตไสฺม ทายิษฺยเตฯ
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6 กินฺตุ ส นิ: สนฺเทห: สนฺ วิศฺวาเสน ยาจตำ ยต: สนฺทิคฺโธ มานโว วายุนา จาลิตโสฺยตฺปฺลวมานสฺย จ สมุทฺรตรงฺคสฺย สทฺฤโศ ภวติฯ
But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.
7 ตาทฺฤโศ มานว: ปฺรโภ: กิญฺจิตฺ ปฺราปฺสฺยตีติ น มนฺยตำฯ
For that man shouldn’t think that he will receive anything from the Lord.
8 ทฺวิมนา โลก: สรฺวฺวคติษุ จญฺจโล ภวติฯ
He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
9 โย ภฺราตา นมฺร: ส นิโชนฺนตฺยา ศฺลาฆตำฯ
Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;
10 ยศฺจ ธนวานฺ ส นิชนมฺรตยา ศฺลาฆตำยต: ส ตฺฤณปุษฺปวตฺ กฺษยํ คมิษฺยติฯ
and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.
11 ยต: สตาเปน สูรฺเยฺยโณทิตฺย ตฺฤณํ โศษฺยเต ตตฺปุษฺปญฺจ ภฺรศฺยติ เตน ตสฺย รูปสฺย เสานฺทรฺยฺยํ นศฺยติ ตทฺวทฺ ธนิโลโก'ปิ สฺวียมูฒตยา มฺลาสฺยติฯ
For the sun arises with the scorching wind and withers the grass; and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So the rich man will also fade away in his pursuits.
12 โย ชน: ปรีกฺษำ สหเต ส เอว ธนฺย: , ยต: ปรีกฺษิตตฺวํ ปฺราปฺย ส ปฺรภุนา สฺวเปฺรมการิภฺย: ปฺรติชฺญาตํ ชีวนมุกุฏํ ลปฺสฺยเตฯ
Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love him.
13 อีศฺวโร มำ ปรีกฺษต อิติ ปรีกฺษาสมเย โก'ปิ น วทตุ ยต: ปาปาเยศฺวรสฺย ปรีกฺษา น ภวติ ส จ กมปิ น ปรีกฺษเตฯ
Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.
14 กินฺตุ ย: กศฺจิตฺ สฺวียมโนวาญฺฉยากฺฤษฺยเต โลภฺยเต จ ตไสฺยว ปรีกฺษา ภวติฯ
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.
15 ตสฺมาตฺ สา มโนวาญฺฉา สครฺภา ภูตฺวา ทุษฺกฺฤตึ ปฺรสูเต ทุษฺกฺฤติศฺจ ปริณามํ คตฺวา มฺฤตฺยุํ ชนยติฯ
Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.
16 เห มม ปฺริยภฺราตร: , ยูยํ น ภฺรามฺยตฯ
Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.
17 ยตฺ กิญฺจิทฺ อุตฺตมํ ทานํ ปูรฺโณ วรศฺจ ตตฺ สรฺวฺวมฺ อูรฺทฺธฺวาทฺ อรฺถโต ยสฺมินฺ ทศานฺตรํ ปริวรฺตฺตนชาตจฺฉายา วา นาสฺติ ตสฺมาทฺ ทีปฺตฺยากราตฺ ปิตุรวโรหติฯ
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.
18 ตสฺย สฺฤษฺฏวสฺตูนำ มเธฺย วยํ ยตฺ ปฺรถมผลสฺวรูปา ภวามสฺตทรฺถํ ส เสฺวจฺฉาต: สตฺยมตสฺย วาเกฺยนาสฺมานฺ ชนยามาสฯ
Of his own will he gave birth to us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
19 อเตอว เห มม ปฺริยภฺราตร: , ยุษฺมากมฺ เอไกโก ชน: ศฺรวเณ ตฺวริต: กถเน ธีร: โกฺรเธ'ปิ ธีโร ภวตุฯ
So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;
20 ยโต มานวสฺย โกฺรธ อีศฺวรียธรฺมฺมํ น สาธยติฯ
for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
21 อโต เหโต รฺยูยํ สรฺวฺวามฺ อศุจิกฺริยำ ทุษฺฏตาพาหุลฺยญฺจ นิกฺษิปฺย ยุษฺมนฺมนสำ ปริตฺราเณ สมรฺถํ โรปิตํ วากฺยํ นมฺรภาเวน คฺฤหฺลีตฯ
Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 อปรญฺจ ยูยํ เกวลมฺ อาตฺมวญฺจยิตาโร วากฺยสฺย โศฺรตาโร น ภวต กินฺตุ วากฺยสฺย กรฺมฺมการิโณ ภวตฯ
But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.
23 ยโต ย: กศฺจิทฺ วากฺยสฺย กรฺมฺมการี น ภูตฺวา เกวลํ ตสฺย โศฺรตา ภวติ ส ทรฺปเณ สฺวียศารีริกวทนํ นิรีกฺษมาณสฺย มนุชสฺย สทฺฤศ: ฯ
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;
24 อาตฺมากาเร ทฺฤษฺเฏ ส ปฺรสฺถาย กีทฺฤศ อาสีตฺ ตตฺ ตตฺกฺษณาทฺ วิสฺมรติฯ
for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25 กินฺตุ ย: กศฺจิตฺ นตฺวา มุกฺเต: สิทฺธำ วฺยวสฺถามฺ อาโลกฺย ติษฺฐติ ส วิสฺมฺฤติยุกฺต: โศฺรตา น ภูตฺวา กรฺมฺมกรฺตฺไตว สนฺ สฺวการฺเยฺย ธโนฺย ภวิษฺยติฯ
But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.
26 อนายตฺตรสน: สนฺ ย: กศฺจิตฺ สฺวมโน วญฺจยิตฺวา สฺวํ ภกฺตํ มนฺยเต ตสฺย ภกฺติ รฺมุธา ภวติฯ
If anyone amongst you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
27 เกฺลศกาเล ปิตฺฤหีนานำ วิธวานาญฺจ ยทฺ อเวกฺษณํ สํสาราจฺจ นิษฺกลงฺเกน ยทฺ อาตฺมรกฺษณํ ตเทว ปิตุรีศฺวรสฺย สากฺษาตฺ ศุจิ รฺนิรฺมฺมลา จ ภกฺติ: ฯ
Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
