๑ กรินฺถิน: 14

1 ยูยํ เปฺรมาจรเณ ปฺรยตธฺวมฺ อาตฺมิกานฺ ทายานปิ วิเศษต อีศฺวรียาเทศกถนสามรฺถฺยํ ปฺราปฺตุํ เจษฺฏธฺวํฯ

Follow after love, and earnestly desire spiritual things, and especially that you may prophesy.

2 โย ชน: ปรภาษำ ภาษเต ส มานุษานฺ น สมฺภาษเต กินฺตฺวีศฺวรเมว ยต: เกนาปิ กิมปิ น พุธฺยเต ส จาตฺมนา นิคูฒวากฺยานิ กถยติ;

For the one who speaks in another language speaks not to people, but to God; for no one understands; but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.

3 กินฺตุ โย ชน อีศฺวรียาเทศํ กถยติ ส ปเรษำ นิษฺฐาไย หิโตปเทศาย สานฺตฺวนาไย จ ภาษเตฯ

But he who prophesies speaks to people for their encouragement, strengthening, and comfort.

4 ปรภาษาวาทฺยาตฺมน เอว นิษฺฐำ ชนยติ กินฺตฺวีศฺวรียาเทศวาที สมิเต รฺนิษฺฐำ ชนยติฯ

He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

5 ยุษฺมากํ สรฺเวฺวษำ ปรภาษาภาษณมฺ อิจฺฉามฺยหํ กินฺตฺวีศฺวรียาเทศกถนมฺ อธิกมปีจฺฉามิฯ ยต: สมิเต รฺนิษฺฐาไย เยน สฺววากฺยานามฺ อรฺโถ น กฺริยเต ตสฺมาตฺ ปรภาษาวาทิต อีศฺวรียาเทศวาที เศฺรยานฺฯ

Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but rather that you would prophesy, and he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the church may be built up.

6 เห ภฺราตร: , อิทานีํ มยา ยทิ ยุษฺมตฺสมีปํ คมฺยเต ตรฺหีศฺวรียทรฺศนสฺย ชฺญานสฺย เวศฺวรียาเทศสฺย วา ศิกฺษายา วา วากฺยานิ น ภาษิตฺวา ปรภาษำ ภาษมาเณน มยา ยูยํ กิมุปการิษฺยเธฺว?

But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?

7 อปรํ วํศีวลฺลกฺยาทิษุ นิษฺปฺราณิษุ วาทฺยยนฺเตฺรษุ วาทิเตษุ ยทิ กฺกณา น วิศิษฺยนฺเต ตรฺหิ กึ วาทฺยํ กึ วา คานํ ภวติ ตตฺ เกน โพทฺธุํ ศกฺยเต?

Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they did not give a distinction in the sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped?

8 อปรํ รณตูรฺยฺยา นิสฺวโณ ยทฺยวฺยกฺโต ภเวตฺ ตรฺหิ ยุทฺธาย ก: สชฺชิษฺยเต?

For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war?

9 ตทฺวตฺ ชิหฺวาภิ รฺยทิ สุคมฺยา วากฺ ยุษฺมาภิ รฺน คเทฺยต ตรฺหิ ยทฺ คทฺยเต ตตฺ เกน โภตฺสฺยเต? วสฺตุโต ยูยํ ทิคาลาปิน อิว ภวิษฺยถฯ

So also you, unless you uttered by the tongue words easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air.

10 ชคติ กติปฺรการา อุกฺตโย วิทฺยนฺเต? ตาสาเมกาปิ นิรรฺถิกา นหิ;

There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none is without meaning.

11 กินฺตูกฺเตรรฺโถ ยทิ มยา น พุธฺยเต ตรฺหฺยหํ วกฺตฺรา เมฺลจฺฉ อิว มํเสฺย วกฺตาปิ มยา เมฺลจฺฉ อิว มํสฺยเตฯ

If then I do not know the meaning of the sound, I would be to him who speaks a foreigner, and he who speaks would be a foreigner to me.

12 ตสฺมาทฺ อาตฺมิกทายลิปฺสโว ยูยํ สมิเต รฺนิษฺฐารฺถํ ปฺราปฺตพหุวรา ภวิตุํ ยตธฺวํ,

So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual things, seek that you may abound to the building up of the church.

13 อเตอว ปรภาษาวาที ยทฺ อรฺถกโร'ปิ ภเวตฺ ตตฺ ปฺรารฺถยตำฯ

Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret.

14 ยทฺยหํ ปรภาษยา ปฺรรฺถนำ กุรฺยฺยำ ตรฺหิ มทีย อาตฺมา ปฺรารฺถยเต, กินฺตุ มม พุทฺธิ รฺนิษฺผลา ติษฺฐติฯ

For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 อิตฺยเนน กึ กรณียํ? อหมฺ อาตฺมนา ปฺรารฺถยิเษฺย พุทฺธฺยาปิ ปฺรารฺถยิเษฺย; อปรํ อาตฺมนา คาสฺยามิ พุทฺธฺยาปิ คาสฺยามิฯ

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16 ตฺวํ ยทาตฺมนา ธนฺยวาทํ กโรษิ ตทา ยทฺ วทสิ ตทฺ ยทิ ศิเษฺยเนโวปสฺถิเตน ชเนน น พุทฺธฺยเต ตรฺหิ ตว ธนฺยวาทสฺยานฺเต ตถาสฺตฺวิติ เตน วกฺตํ กถํ ศกฺยเต?

Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the "Amen" at your giving of thanks, seeing he does not know what you say?

17 ตฺวํ สมฺยคฺ อีศฺวรํ ธนฺยํ วทสีติ สตฺยํ ตถาปิ ตตฺร ปรสฺย นิษฺฐา น ภวติฯ

For you truly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up.

18 ยุษฺมากํ สรฺเวฺวโภฺย'หํ ปรภาษาภาษเณ สมรฺโถ'สฺมีติ การณาทฺ อีศฺวรํ ธนฺยํ วทามิ;

I thank God I speak in tongues more than you all.

19 ตถาปิ สมิเตา ปโรปเทศารฺถํ มยา กถิตานิ ปญฺจ วากฺยานิ วรํ น จ ลกฺษํ ปรภาษียานิ วากฺยานิฯ

However in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.

20 เห ภฺราตร: ,ยูยํ พุทฺธฺยา พาลกาอิว มา ภูต ปรนฺตุ ทุษฺฏตยา ศิศวอิว ภูตฺวา พุทฺธฺยา สิทฺธา ภวตฯ

Brothers, do not be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature.

21 ศาสฺตฺร อิทํ ลิขิตมาเสฺต, ยถา, อิตฺยโวจตฺ ปเรโศ'หมฺ อาภาษิษฺย อิมานฺ ชนานฺฯ ภาษาภิ: ปรกียาภิ รฺวกฺไตฺรศฺจ ปรเทศิภิ: ฯ ตถา มยา กฺฤเต'ปีเม น คฺรหีษฺยนฺติ มทฺวจ: ๚

In the law it is written, "By people of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people; but even then they will not listen to me," says the Lord.

22 อเตอว ตตฺ ปรภาษาภาษณํ อวิศฺจาสิน: ปฺรติ จิหฺนรูปํ ภวติ น จ วิศฺวาสิน: ปฺรติ; กินฺตฺวีศฺวรียาเทศกถนํ นาวิศฺวาสิน: ปฺรติ ตทฺ วิศฺวาสิน: ปฺรเตฺยวฯ

Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe.

23 สมิติภุกฺเตษุ สรฺเวฺวษุ เอกสฺมินฺ สฺถาเน มิลิตฺวา ปรภาษำ ภาษมาเณษุ ยทิ ชฺญานากางฺกฺษิโณ'วิศฺวาสิโน วา ตตฺราคจฺเฉยุสฺตรฺหิ ยุษฺมานฺ อุนฺมตฺตานฺ กึ น วทิษฺยนฺติ?

If therefore the whole church is assembled together and all speak in tongues, and unlearned or unbelieving people come in, won't they say that you are crazy?

24 กินฺตุ สรฺเวฺวษฺวีศฺวรียาเทศํ ปฺรกาศยตฺสุ ยทฺยวิศฺวาสี ชฺญานากางฺกฺษี วา กศฺจิตฺ ตตฺราคจฺฉติ ตรฺหิ สรฺไวฺวเรว ตสฺย ปาปชฺญานํ ปรีกฺษา จ ชายเต,

But if all prophesy, and someone unbelieving or unlearned comes in, he is reproved by all, and he is judged by all.

25 ตตสฺตสฺยานฺต: กรณสฺย คุปฺตกลฺปนาสุ วฺยกฺตีภูตาสุ โส'โธมุข: ปตนฺ อีศฺวรมาราธฺย ยุษฺมนฺมธฺย อีศฺวโร วิทฺยเต อิติ สตฺยํ กถาเมตำ กถยิษฺยติฯ

And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed. So he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.

26 เห ภฺราตร: , สมฺมิลิตานำ ยุษฺมากมฺ เอเกน คีตมฺ อเนฺยโนปเทโศ'เนฺยน ปรภาษาเนฺยน ไอศฺวริกทรฺศนมฺ อเนฺยนารฺถโพธกํ วากฺยํ ลภฺยเต กิเมตตฺ? สรฺวฺวเมว ปรนิษฺฐารฺถํ ยุษฺมาภิ: กฺริยตำฯ

What is it then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has another language, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to build each other up.

27 ยทิ กศฺจิทฺ ภาษานฺตรํ วิวกฺษติ ตเรฺหฺยกสฺมินฺ ทิเน ทฺวิชเนน ตฺริชเนน วา ปรภาษา กถฺยตำ ตทธิไกรฺน กถฺยตำ ไตรปิ ปรฺยฺยายานุสาราตฺ กถฺยตำ, เอเกน จ ตทรฺโถ โพธฺยตำฯ

If anyone speaks in another language, let it be two, or at the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret.

28 กินฺตฺวรฺถาภิธายก: โก'ปิ ยทิ น วิทฺยเต ตรฺหิ ส สมิเตา วาจํยม: สฺถิเตฺวศฺวรายาตฺมเน จ กถำ กถยตุฯ

But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the church, and let him speak to himself, and to God.

29 อปรํ เทฺวา ตฺรโย เวศฺวรียาเทศวกฺตาร: สฺวํ สฺวมาเทศํ กถยนฺตุ ตทเนฺย จ ตํ วิจารยนฺตุฯ

Let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern.

30 กินฺตุ ตตฺราปเรณ เกนจิตฺ ชเนเนศฺวรียาเทเศ ลพฺเธ ปฺรถเมน กถนาตฺ นิวรฺตฺติตวฺยํฯ

But if a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first keep silent.

31 สรฺเวฺว ยตฺ ศิกฺษำ สานฺตฺวนาญฺจ ลภนฺเต ตทรฺถํ ยูยํ สรฺเวฺว ปรฺยฺยาเยเณศฺวรียาเทศํ กถยิตุํ ศกฺนุถฯ

For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.

32 อีศฺวรียาเทศวกฺตฺฤณำ มนำสิ เตษามฺ อธีนานิ ภวนฺติฯ

The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets,

33 ยต อีศฺวร: กุศาสนชนโก นหิ สุศาสนชนก เอเวติ ปวิตฺรโลกานำ สรฺวฺวสมิติษุ ปฺรกาศเตฯ

for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

34 อปรญฺจ ยุษฺมากํ วนิตา: สมิติษุ ตูษฺณีมฺภูตาสฺติษฺฐนฺตุ ยต: ศาสฺตฺรลิขิเตน วิธินา ตา: กถาปฺรจารณาตฺ นิวาริตาสฺตาภิ รฺนิฆฺราภิ รฺภวิตวฺยํฯ

let the women keep silent in the churches, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as the Law also says.

35 อตสฺตา ยทิ กิมปิ ชิชฺญาสนฺเต ตรฺหิ เคเหษุ ปตีนฺ ปฺฤจฺฉนฺตุ ยต: สมิติมเธฺย โยษิตำ กถากถนํ นินฺทนียํฯ

If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a woman to chatter in the church.

36 ไอศฺวรํ วจ: กึ ยุษฺมตฺโต นิรคมต? เกวลํ ยุษฺมานฺ วา ตตฺ กิมฺ อุปาคตํ?

What? Was it from you that the word of God went out? Or did it come to you alone?

37 ย: กศฺจิทฺ อาตฺมานมฺ อีศฺวรียาเทศวกฺตารมฺ อาตฺมนาวิษฺฏํ วา มนฺยเต ส ยุษฺมานฺ ปฺรติ มยา ยทฺ ยตฺ ลิขฺยเต ตตฺปฺรภุนาชฺญาปิตมฺ อีตฺยุรรี กโรตุฯ

If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.

38 กินฺตุ ย: กศฺจิตฺ อชฺโญ ภวติ โส'ชฺญ เอว ติษฺฐตุฯ

But if someone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.

39 อเตอว เห ภฺราตร: , ยูยมฺ อีศฺวรียาเทศกถนสามรฺถฺยํ ลพฺธุํ ยตธฺวํ ปรภาษาภาษณมปิ ยุษฺมาภิ รฺน นิวารฺยฺยตำฯ

Therefore, my brothers, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

40 สรฺวฺวกรฺมฺมาณิ จ วิธฺยนุสารต: สุปริปาฏฺยา กฺริยนฺตำฯ

Let all things be done decently and in order.
