மதி²: 9
1 அநந்தரம்’ யீஸு² ர்நௌகாமாருஹ்ய புந: பாரமாக³த்ய நிஜக்³ராமம் ஆயயௌ|
And, entering into a boat, he crossed over, and came into his own city.
2 தத: கதிபயா ஜநா ஏகம்’ பக்ஷாகா⁴திநம்’ ஸ்வட்டோபரி ஸா²யயித்வா தத்ஸமீபம் ஆநயந்; ததோ யீஸு²ஸ்தேஷாம்’ ப்ரதீதிம்’ விஜ்ஞாய தம்’ பக்ஷாகா⁴திநம்’ ஜகா³த³, ஹே புத்ர, ஸுஸ்தி²ரோ ப⁴வ, தவ கலுஷஸ்ய மர்ஷணம்’ ஜாதம்|
And lo! they were bringing unto him a paralytic, on a couch, laid prostrate; and Jesus, seeing, their faith, said to the paralytic, —Take courage! child, forgiven are thy sins.
3 தாம்’ கதா²ம்’ நிஸ²ம்ய கியந்த உபாத்⁴யாயா மந: ஸு சிந்திதவந்த ஏஷ மநுஜ ஈஸ்²வரம்’ நிந்த³தி|
And lo! certain of the scribes, said within themselves, —This man, speaketh profanely!
4 தத: ஸ தேஷாம் ஏதாத்³ரு’ஸீ²ம்’ சிந்தாம்’ விஜ்ஞாய கதி²தவாந், யூயம்’ மந: ஸு க்ரு’த ஏதாத்³ரு’ஸீ²ம்’ குசிந்தாம்’ குருத²?
And Jesus, knowing, their inward thoughts, said, —To what end are ye cherishing evil thoughts within your hearts?
5 தவ பாபமர்ஷணம்’ ஜாதம்’, யத்³வா த்வமுத்தா²ய க³ச்ச², த்³வயோரநயோ ர்வாக்யயோ: கிம்’ வாக்யம்’ வக்தும்’ ஸுக³மம்’?
For which is easier—To say, Forgiven are thy sins, —or to say, Rise and be walking!
6 கிந்து மேதி³ந்யாம்’ கலுஷம்’ க்ஷமிதும்’ மநுஜஸுதஸ்ய ஸாமர்த்²யமஸ்தீதி யூயம்’ யதா² ஜாநீத², தத³ர்த²ம்’ ஸ தம்’ பக்ஷாகா⁴திநம்’ க³தி³தவாந், உத்திஷ்ட², நிஜஸ²யநீயம்’ ஆதா³ய கே³ஹம்’ க³ச்ச²|
But, that ye may know, that the Son of Man hath, authority, upon the earth, to be forgiving sins, then, saith he to the paralytic, —Rise! take up thy couch, and withdraw unto thy house.
7 தத: ஸ தத்க்ஷணாத்³ உத்தா²ய நிஜகே³ஹம்’ ப்ரஸ்தி²தவாந்|
And, rising, he departed unto his house.
8 மாநவா இத்த²ம்’ விலோக்ய விஸ்மயம்’ மேநிரே, ஈஸ்²வரேண மாநவாய ஸாமர்த்²யம் ஈத்³ரு’ஸ²ம்’ த³த்தம்’ இதி காரணாத் தம்’ த⁴ந்யம்’ ப³பா⁴ஷிரே ச|
Now the multitudes, seeing, were struck with fear, and glorified the God who had given authority, such as this, unto men.
9 அநந்தரம்’ யீஸு²ஸ்தத்ஸ்தா²நாத்³ க³ச்ச²ந் க³ச்ச²ந் கரஸம்’க்³ரஹஸ்தா²நே ஸமுபவிஷ்டம்’ மதி²நாமாநம் ஏகம்’ மநுஜம்’ விலோக்ய தம்’ ப³பா⁴ஷே, மம பஸ்²சாத்³ ஆக³ச்ச², தத: ஸ உத்தா²ய தஸ்ய பஸ்²சாத்³ வவ்ராஜ|
And Jesus, passing aside from thence, saw a man presiding over the tax-office, called, Matthew, and saith unto him, —Be following me. And, arising, he followed him.
10 தத: பரம்’ யீஸௌ² க்³ரு’ஹே போ⁴க்தும் உபவிஷ்டே ப³ஹவ: கரஸம்’க்³ராஹிண: கலுஷிணஸ்²ச மாநவா ஆக³த்ய தேந ஸாகம்’ தஸ்ய ஸி²ஷ்யைஸ்²ச ஸாகம் உபவிவிஸு²: |
And it came to pass, as he was reclining in the house, that lo! many tax-collectors and sinners, came, and were reclining together with Jesus and his disciples.
11 பி²ரூஸி²நஸ்தத்³ த்³ரு’ஷ்ட்வா தஸ்ய ஸி²ஷ்யாந் ப³பா⁴ஷிரே, யுஷ்மாகம்’ கு³ரு: கிம்’ நிமித்தம்’ கரஸம்’க்³ராஹிபி⁴: கலுஷிபி⁴ஸ்²ச ஸாகம்’ பு⁴ம்’க்தே?
And, the Pharisees, observing it, began to say unto his disciples, —Wherefore, with tax-collectors and sinners, doth your Teacher eat?
12 யீஸு²ஸ்தத் ஸ்²ருத்வா தாந் ப்ரத்யவத³த், நிராமயலோகாநாம்’ சிகித்ஸகேந ப்ரயோஜநம்’ நாஸ்தி, கிந்து ஸாமயலோகாநாம்’ ப்ரயோஜநமாஸ்தே|
And, he, hearing it, said, —No need have the strong, of a physician, but they who are sick.
13 அதோ யூயம்’ யாத்வா வசநஸ்யாஸ்யார்த²ம்’ ஸி²க்ஷத்⁴வம், த³யாயாம்’ மே யதா² ப்ரீதி ர்ந ததா² யஜ்ஞகர்ம்மணி| யதோ(அ)ஹம்’ தா⁴ர்ம்மிகாந் ஆஹ்வாதும்’ நாக³தோ(அ)ஸ்மி கிந்து மந: பரிவர்த்தயிதும்’ பாபிந ஆஹ்வாதும் ஆக³தோ(அ)ஸ்மி|
But go ye, and learn what this meaneth, —Mercy, I desire, and not, sacrifice; For I came, not to call the righteous, but sinners.
14 அநந்தரம்’ யோஹந: ஸி²ஷ்யாஸ்தஸ்ய ஸமீபம் ஆக³த்ய கத²யாமாஸு: , பி²ரூஸி²நோ வயஞ்ச புந: புநருபவஸாம: , கிந்து தவ ஸி²ஷ்யா நோபவஸந்தி, குத: ?
Then come near unto him the disciples of John, saying, —Wherefore do, we, and the Pharisees, fast, whereas, thy disciples, fast not?
15 ததா³ யீஸு²ஸ்தாந் அவோசத் யாவத் ஸகீ²நாம்’ ஸம்’ங்கே³ கந்யாயா வரஸ்திஷ்ட²தி, தாவத் கிம்’ தே விலாபம்’ கர்த்தும்’ ஸ²க்லுவந்தி? கிந்து யதா³ தேஷாம்’ ஸம்’ங்கா³த்³ வரம்’ நயந்தி, தாத்³ரு’ஸ²: ஸமய ஆக³மிஷ்யதி, ததா³ தே உபவத்ஸ்யந்தி|
And Jesus said unto them, —Can, the sons of the bridechamber, mourn, so long as, the bridegroom, is, with them? But days will come, when the bridegroom, shall be taken from them, and, then, will they fast.
16 புராதநவஸநே கோபி நவீநவஸ்த்ரம்’ ந யோஜயதி, யஸ்மாத் தேந யோஜிதேந புராதநவஸநம்’ சி²நத்தி தச்சி²த்³ரஞ்ச ப³ஹுகுத்ஸிதம்’ த்³ரு’ஸ்²யதே|
Howbeit, no one, layeth on a patch of unshrunk cloth, upon an old garment, —for the shrinking of it teareth away from the garment, and, a worse rent, is made.
17 அந்யஞ்ச புராதநகுத்வாம்’ கோபி நவாநகோ³ஸ்தநீரஸம்’ ந நித³தா⁴தி, யஸ்மாத் ததா² க்ரு’தே குதூ ர்விதீ³ர்ய்யதே தேந கோ³ஸ்தநீரஸ: பததி குதூஸ்²ச நஸ்²யதி; தஸ்மாத் நவீநாயாம்’ குத்வாம்’ நவீநோ கோ³ஸ்தநீரஸ: ஸ்தா²ப்யதே, தேந த்³வயோரவநம்’ ப⁴வதி|
Neither pour they new wine into old skins: otherwise at least, the skins are burst, and, the wine, runneth out, and, the skins, are spoiled, —but they pour new wine into unused skins, and, both, are together preserved.
18 அபரம்’ தேநைதத்கதா²கத²நகாலே ஏகோ(அ)தி⁴பதிஸ்தம்’ ப்ரணம்ய ப³பா⁴ஷே, மம து³ஹிதா ப்ராயேணைதாவத்காலே ம்ரு’தா, தஸ்மாத்³ ப⁴வாநாக³த்ய தஸ்யா கா³த்ரே ஹஸ்தமர்பயது, தேந ஸா ஜீவிஷ்யதி|
While, these things, he was speaking unto them, lo! a [certain] ruler, came, and began bowing down to him, saying, —My daughter, just now died! But come, and lay thy hand upon, her, and she shall live.
19 ததா³நீம்’ யீஸு²: ஸி²ஷ்யை: ஸாகம் உத்தா²ய தஸ்ய பஸ்²சாத்³ வவ்ராஜ|
And Jesus, arising, was following him, also his disciples.
20 இத்யநந்தரே த்³வாத³ஸ²வத்ஸராந் யாவத் ப்ரத³ராமயேந ஸீ²ர்ணைகா நாரீ தஸ்ய பஸ்²சாத்³ ஆக³த்ய தஸ்ய வஸநஸ்ய க்³ரந்தி²ம்’ பஸ்பர்ஸ²;
And lo! a woman, having a flow of blood twelve years, coming near behind, touched the fringe of his mantle.
21 யஸ்மாத் மயா கேவலம்’ தஸ்ய வஸநம்’ ஸ்ப்ரு’ஷ்ட்வா ஸ்வாஸ்த்²யம்’ ப்ராப்ஸ்யதே, ஸா நாரீதி மநஸி நிஸ்²சிதவதீ|
For she kept saying within herself, —If only I touch his mantle, I shall be made well!
22 ததோ யீஸு²ர்வத³நம்’ பராவர்த்த்ய தாம்’ ஜகா³த³, ஹே கந்யே, த்வம்’ ஸுஸ்தி²ரா ப⁴வ, தவ விஸ்²வாஸஸ்த்வாம்’ ஸ்வஸ்தா²மகார்ஷீத்| ஏதத்³வாக்யே க³தி³தஏவ ஸா யோஷித் ஸ்வஸ்தா²பூ⁴த்|
And, Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, —Take courage! daughter, Thy faith, hath made thee well. And the woman was made well, from that hour.
23 அபரம்’ யீஸு²ஸ்தஸ்யாத்⁴யக்ஷஸ்ய கே³ஹம்’ க³த்வா வாத³கப்ரப்⁴ரு’தீந் ப³ஹூந் லோகாந் ஸ²ப்³தா³யமாநாந் விலோக்ய தாந் அவத³த்,
And, Jesus, coming, into the house of the ruler, and seeing the flute-players and the multitude in confusion, was saying:
24 பந்தா²நம்’ த்யஜ, கந்யேயம்’ நாம்ரியத நித்³ரிதாஸ்தே; கதா²மேதாம்’ ஸ்²ருத்வா தே தமுபஜஹஸு: |
Give place! for the maiden died not, but is sleeping. And they began to deride him.
25 கிந்து ஸர்வ்வேஷு ப³ஹிஷ்க்ரு’தேஷு ஸோ(அ)ப்⁴யந்தரம்’ க³த்வா கந்யாயா: கரம்’ த்⁴ரு’தவாந், தேந ஸோத³திஷ்ட²த்;
But, when the multitude had been put forth, he went in, and grasped her hand, —and the maiden arose.
26 ததஸ்தத்கர்ம்மணோ யஸ²: க்ரு’த்ஸ்நம்’ தம்’ தே³ஸ²ம்’ வ்யாப்தவத்|
And forth went this report, into the whole of that land.
27 தத: பரம்’ யீஸு²ஸ்தஸ்மாத் ஸ்தா²நாத்³ யாத்ராம்’ சகார; ததா³ ஹே தா³யூத³: ஸந்தாந, அஸ்மாந் த³யஸ்வ, இதி வத³ந்தௌ த்³வௌ ஜநாவந்தௌ⁴ ப்ரோசைராஹூயந்தௌ தத்பஸ்²சாத்³ வவ்ரஜது: |
And, as Jesus, was passing aside from thence, there followed him, two blind men, crying aloud and saying, —Have mercy on us, O Son of David!
28 ததோ யீஸௌ² கே³ஹமத்⁴யம்’ ப்ரவிஷ்டம்’ தாவபி தஸ்ய ஸமீபம் உபஸ்தி²தவந்தௌ, ததா³நீம்’ ஸ தௌ ப்ரு’ஷ்டவாந் கர்ம்மைதத் கர்த்தும்’ மம ஸாமர்த்²யம் ஆஸ்தே, யுவாம்’ கிமிதி ப்ரதீத²: ? ததா³ தௌ ப்ரத்யூசது: , ஸத்யம்’ ப்ரபோ⁴|
And, when he entered the house, the blind men came unto him, —and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye, that I can, do this? They say unto him, Yea, Lord!
29 ததா³நீம்’ ஸ தயோ ர்லோசநாநி ஸ்ப்ரு’ஸ²ந் ப³பா⁴ஷே, யுவயோ: ப்ரதீத்யநுஸாராத்³ யுவயோ ர்மங்க³லம்’ பூ⁴யாத்| தேந தத்க்ஷணாத் தயோ ர்நேத்ராணி ப்ரஸந்நாந்யப⁴வந்,
Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it done unto you.
30 பஸ்²சாத்³ யீஸு²ஸ்தௌ த்³ரு’ட⁴மாஜ்ஞாப்ய ஜகா³த³, அவத⁴த்தம் ஏதாம்’ கதா²ம்’ கோபி மநுஜோ ம ஜாநீயாத்|
And their eyes were opened. And Jesus, sternly charged them, saying, Mind! let no one know!
31 கிந்து தௌ ப்ரஸ்தா²ய தஸ்மிந் க்ரு’த்ஸ்நே தே³ஸே² தஸ்ய கீர்த்திம்’ ப்ரகாஸ²யாமாஸது: |
They, however, going forth, made him known throughout the whole of that land.
32 அபரம்’ தௌ ப³ஹிர்யாத ஏதஸ்மிந்நந்தரே மநுஜா ஏகம்’ பூ⁴தக்³ரஸ்தமூகம்’ தஸ்ய ஸமீபம் ஆநீதவந்த: |
And, as, they, were going forth, lo! there was brought to him, a dumb man, demonized.
33 தேந பூ⁴தே த்யாஜிதே ஸ மூக: கதா²ம்’ கத²யிதும்’ ப்ராரப⁴த, தேந ஜநா விஸ்மயம்’ விஜ்ஞாய கத²யாமாஸு: , இஸ்ராயேலோ வம்’ஸே² கதா³பி நேத்³ரு’க³த்³ரு’ஸ்²யத;
And, the demon being cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the multitudes marvelled, saying, —Never, was it seen thus, in Israel.
34 கிந்து பி²ரூஸி²ந: கத²யாஞ்சக்ரு: பூ⁴தாதி⁴பதிநா ஸ பூ⁴தாந் த்யாஜயதி|
[But, the Pharisees, beg to say, In the ruler of the demons, is he casting out the demons.]
35 தத: பரம்’ யீஸு²ஸ்தேஷாம்’ ப⁴ஜநப⁴வந உபதி³ஸ²ந் ராஜ்யஸ்ய ஸுஸம்’வாத³ம்’ ப்ரசாரயந் லோகாநாம்’ யஸ்ய ய ஆமயோ யா ச பீடா³ஸீத், தாந் ஸ²மயந் ஸ²மயம்’ஸ்²ச ஸர்வ்வாணி நக³ராணி க்³ராமாம்’ஸ்²ச ப³ப்⁴ராம|
And Jesus was going round all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the glad-message of the kingdom, —and curing every disease, and every infirmity.
36 அந்யஞ்ச மநுஜாந் வ்யாகுலாந் அரக்ஷகமேஷாநிவ ச த்யக்தாந் நிரீக்ஷ்ய தேஷு காருணிக: ஸந் ஸி²ஷ்யாந் அவத³த்,
But, seeing the multitudes, he was moved with compassion concerning them, because they were torn and thrown down, like sheep hating no shepherd.
37 ஸ²ஸ்யாநி ப்ரசுராணி ஸந்தி, கிந்து சே²த்தார: ஸ்தோகா: |
Then, saith he unto his disciples, The harvest, indeed, is great, but, the labourers, few;
38 க்ஷேத்ரம்’ ப்ரத்யபராந் சே²த³காந் ப்ரஹேதும்’ ஸ²ஸ்யஸ்வாமிநம்’ ப்ரார்த²யத்⁴வம்|
Beg ye, therefore, of the Lord of the harvest, —That he would thrust forth labourers, into his harvest.
