1 அநந்தரம்’ திபி³ரியகைஸரஸ்ய ராஜத்வஸ்ய பஞ்சத³ஸே² வத்ஸரே ஸதி யதா³ பந்தீயபீலாதோ யிஹூதா³தே³ஸா²தி⁴பதி ர்ஹேரோத்³ து கா³லீல்ப்ரதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய ராஜா பி²லிபநாமா தஸ்ய ப்⁴ராதா து யிதூரியாயாஸ்த்ராகோ²நீதியாப்ரதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய ச ராஜாஸீத் லுஷாநீயநாமா அவிலீநீதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய ராஜாஸீத்
Now in the fifteenth year of the rule of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being ruler of Judaea, and Herod being king of Galilee, his brother Philip king of the country of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias king of Abilene,
2 ஹாநந் கியபா²ஸ்²சேமௌ ப்ரதா⁴நயாஜாகாவாஸ்தாம்’ ததா³நீம்’ ஸிக²ரியஸ்ய புத்ராய யோஹநே மத்⁴யேப்ராந்தரம் ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய வாக்யே ப்ரகாஸி²தே ஸதி
When Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of the Lord came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the waste land.
3 ஸ யர்த்³த³ந உப⁴யதடப்ரதே³ஸா²ந் ஸமேத்ய பாபமோசநார்த²ம்’ மந: பராவர்த்தநஸ்ய சிஹ்நரூபம்’ யந்மஜ்ஜநம்’ ததீ³யா: கதா²: ஸர்வ்வத்ர ப்ரசாரயிதுமாரேபே⁴|
And he came into all the country round about Jordan, preaching baptism as a sign of forgiveness of sin for those whose hearts were changed.
4 யிஸ²யியப⁴விஷ்யத்³வக்த்ரு’க்³ரந்தே² யாத்³ரு’ஸீ² லிபிராஸ்தே யதா², பரமேஸ²ஸ்ய பந்தா²நம்’ பரிஷ்குருத ஸர்வ்வத: | தஸ்ய ராஜபத²ஞ்சைவ ஸமாநம்’ குருதாது⁴நா|
As it says in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the waste land, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his roads straight.
5 காரிஷ்யந்தே ஸமுச்ச்²ராயா: ஸகலா நிம்நபூ⁴மய: | காரிஷ்யந்தே நதா: ஸர்வ்வே பர்வ்வதாஸ்²சோபபர்வ்வதா: | காரிஷ்யந்தே ச யா வக்ராஸ்தா: ஸர்வ்வா: ஸரலா பு⁴வ: | காரிஷ்யந்தே ஸமாநாஸ்தா யா உச்சநீசபூ⁴மய: |
Every valley will be lifted up, and all the mountains and hills made low, and the twisted will be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;
6 ஈஸ்²வரேண க்ரு’தம்’ த்ராணம்’ த்³ரக்ஷ்யந்தி ஸர்வ்வமாநவா: | இத்யேதத் ப்ராந்தரே வாக்யம்’ வத³த: கஸ்யசித்³ ரவ: ||
And all flesh will see the salvation of God.
7 யே யே லோகா மஜ்ஜநார்த²ம்’ ப³ஹிராயயுஸ்தாந் ஸோவத³த் ரே ரே ஸர்பவம்’ஸா² ஆகா³மிந: கோபாத் பலாயிதும்’ யுஷ்மாந் கஸ்²சேதயாமாஸ?
So he said to the people who went out to him for baptism: You offspring of snakes, at whose word are you going in flight from the wrath to come?
8 தஸ்மாத்³ இப்³ராஹீம் அஸ்மாகம்’ பிதா கதா²மீத்³ரு’ஸீ²ம்’ மநோபி⁴ ர்ந கத²யித்வா யூயம்’ மந: பரிவர்த்தநயோக்³யம்’ ப²லம்’ ப²லத; யுஷ்மாநஹம்’ யதா²ர்த²ம்’ வதா³மி பாஷாணேப்⁴ய ஏதேப்⁴ய ஈஸ்²வர இப்³ராஹீம: ஸந்தாநோத்பாத³நே ஸமர்த²: |
Make clear by your acts that your hearts have been changed; and do not say to yourselves, We have Abraham for our father: for I say to you that God is able from these stones to make children of Abraham.
9 அபரஞ்ச தருமூலே(அ)து⁴நாபி பரஸு²: ஸம்’லக்³நோஸ்தி யஸ்தருருத்தமம்’ ப²லம்’ ந ப²லதி ஸ சி²த்³யதே(அ)க்³நௌ நிக்ஷிப்யதே ச|
And even now the axe is put to the root of the trees; and every tree which does not have good fruit will be cut down and put into the fire.
10 ததா³நீம்’ லோகாஸ்தம்’ பப்ரச்சு²ஸ்தர்ஹி கிம்’ கர்த்தவ்யமஸ்மாபி⁴: ?
And the people put questions to him, saying, What have we to do?
11 தத: ஸோவாதீ³த் யஸ்ய த்³வே வஸநே வித்³யேதே ஸ வஸ்த்ரஹீநாயைகம்’ விதரது கிம்’ஞ்ச யஸ்ய கா²த்³யத்³ரவ்யம்’ வித்³யதே ஸோபி ததை²வ கரோது|
And he made answer and said to them, He who has two coats, let him give to him who has not even one; and he who has food, let him do the same.
12 தத: பரம்’ கரஸஞ்சாயிநோ மஜ்ஜநார்த²ம் ஆக³த்ய பப்ரச்சு²: ஹே கு³ரோ கிம்’ கர்த்தவ்யமஸ்மாபி⁴: ?
Then tax-farmers came to him for baptism and said to him, Master, what have we to do?
13 தத: ஸோகத²யத் நிரூபிதாத³தி⁴கம்’ ந க்³ரு’ஹ்லித|
And he said to them, Do not make an attempt to get more money than the right amount.
14 அநந்தரம்’ ஸேநாக³ண ஏத்ய பப்ரச்ச² கிமஸ்மாபி⁴ ர்வா கர்த்தவ்யம்? தத: ஸோபி⁴த³தே⁴ கஸ்ய காமபி ஹாநிம்’ மா கார்ஷ்ட ததா² ம்ரு’ஷாபவாத³ம்’ மா குருத நிஜவேதநேந ச ஸந்துஷ்ய திஷ்ட²த|
And men of the army put questions to him, saying, And what have we to do? And he said to them, Do no violent acts to any man, and do not take anything without right, and let your payment be enough for you.
15 அபரஞ்ச லோகா அபேக்ஷயா ஸ்தி²த்வா ஸர்வ்வேபீதி மநோபி⁴ ர்விதர்கயாஞ்சக்ரு: , யோஹநயம் அபி⁴ஷிக்தஸ்த்ராதா ந வேதி?
And while the people were waiting, and all men were questioning in their hearts about John, if he was the Christ or not,
16 ததா³ யோஹந் ஸர்வ்வாந் வ்யாஜஹார, ஜலே(அ)ஹம்’ யுஷ்மாந் மஜ்ஜயாமி ஸத்யம்’ கிந்து யஸ்ய பாது³காப³ந்த⁴நம்’ மோசயிதுமபி ந யோக்³யோஸ்மி தாத்³ரு’ஸ² ஏகோ மத்தோ கு³ருதர: புமாந் ஏதி, ஸ யுஷ்மாந் வஹ்நிரூபே பவித்ர ஆத்மநி மஜ்ஜயிஷ்யதி|
John made answer, saying to them all, Truly, I give you baptism with water, but one is coming who is greater than I, whose shoes I am not good enough to undo: he will give you baptism with the Holy Spirit, and with fire:
17 அபரஞ்ச தஸ்ய ஹஸ்தே ஸூ²ர்ப ஆஸ்தே ஸ ஸ்வஸ²ஸ்யாநி ஸு²த்³த⁴ரூபம்’ ப்ரஸ்போ²ட்ய கோ³தூ⁴மாந் ஸர்வ்வாந் பா⁴ண்டா³கா³ரே ஸம்’க்³ரஹீஷ்யதி கிந்து பூ³ஷாணி ஸர்வ்வாண்யநிர்வ்வாணவஹ்நிநா தா³ஹயிஷ்யதி|
In whose hand is the instrument with which he will make clean his grain; he will put the good grain in his store, but the waste will be burned in the fire which will never be put out.
18 யோஹந் உபதே³ஸே²நேத்த²ம்’ நாநாகதா² லோகாநாம்’ ஸமக்ஷம்’ ப்ரசாரயாமாஸ|
And so comforting them with these and other words, he gave the good news to the people;
19 அபரஞ்ச ஹேரோத்³ ராஜா பி²லிப்நாம்ந: ஸஹோத³ரஸ்ய பா⁴ர்ய்யாம்’ ஹேரோதி³யாமதி⁴ ததா²ந்யாநி யாநி யாநி குகர்ம்மாணி க்ரு’தவாந் தத³தி⁴ ச
But Herod the king, because John had made a protest on account of Herodias, his brother's wife, and other evil things which Herod had done,
20 யோஹநா திரஸ்க்ரு’தோ பூ⁴த்வா காராகா³ரே தஸ்ய ப³ந்த⁴நாத்³ அபரமபி குகர்ம்ம சகார|
Did this most evil thing of all, and had John shut up in prison.
21 இத: பூர்வ்வம்’ யஸ்மிந் ஸமயே ஸர்வ்வே யோஹநா மஜ்ஜிதாஸ்ததா³நீம்’ யீஸு²ரப்யாக³த்ய மஜ்ஜித: |
Now it came about that when all the people had been given baptism, Jesus, having had baptism with them, was in prayer, when, the heaven being open,
22 தத³நந்தரம்’ தேந ப்ரார்தி²தே மேக⁴த்³வாரம்’ முக்தம்’ தஸ்மாச்ச பவித்ர ஆத்மா மூர்த்திமாந் பூ⁴த்வா கபோதவத் தது³பர்ய்யவருரோஹ; ததா³ த்வம்’ மம ப்ரிய: புத்ரஸ்த்வயி மம பரம: ஸந்தோஷ இத்யாகாஸ²வாணீ ப³பூ⁴வ|
The Holy Spirit came down in the form of a dove, and a voice came from heaven, saying, You are my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
23 ததா³நீம்’ யீஸு²: ப்ராயேண த்ரிம்’ஸ²த்³வர்ஷவயஸ்க ஆஸீத்| லௌகிகஜ்ஞாநே து ஸ யூஷப²: புத்ர: ,
And Jesus at this time was about thirty years old, being the son (as it seemed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,
24 யூஷப்² ஏலே: புத்ர: , ஏலிர்மத்தத: புத்ர: , மத்தத் லேவே: புத்ர: , லேவி ர்மல்கே: புத்ர: , மல்கிர்யாந்நஸ்ய புத்ர: ; யாந்நோ யூஷப²: புத்ர: |
The son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
25 யூஷப்² மத்ததி²யஸ்ய புத்ர: , மத்ததி²ய ஆமோஸ: புத்ர: , ஆமோஸ் நஹூம: புத்ர: , நஹூம் இஷ்லே: புத்ர: இஷ்லிர்நகே³: புத்ர: |
The son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
26 நகி³ர்மாட: புத்ர: , மாட் மத்ததி²யஸ்ய புத்ர: , மத்ததி²ய: ஸி²மியே: புத்ர: , ஸி²மியிர்யூஷப²: புத்ர: , யூஷப்² யிஹூதா³: புத்ர: |
The son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda,
27 யிஹூதா³ யோஹாநா: புத்ர: , யோஹாநா ரீஷா: புத்ர: , ரீஷா: ஸிருப்³பா³பி³ல: புத்ர: , ஸிருப்³பா³பி³ல் ஸ²ல்தீயேல: புத்ர: , ஸ²ல்தீயேல் நேரே: புத்ர: |
The son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,
