ਮਥਿਃ 5
1 ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਸ ਜਨਨਿਵਹੰ ਨਿਰੀਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯ ਭੂਧਰੋਪਰਿ ਵ੍ਰਜਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਸਮੁਪਵਿਵੇਸ਼|
Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
2 ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਸ਼ਿਸ਼਼੍ਯੇਸ਼਼ੁ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਸਮੀਪਮਾਗਤੇਸ਼਼ੁ ਤੇਨ ਤੇਭ੍ਯ ਏਸ਼਼ਾ ਕਥਾ ਕਥ੍ਯਾਞ੍ਚਕ੍ਰੇ|
He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
3 ਅਭਿਮਾਨਹੀਨਾ ਜਨਾ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ, ਯਤਸ੍ਤੇ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੀਯਰਾਜ੍ਯਮ੍ ਅਧਿਕਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤਿ|
“Blessed are the poor in spirit! for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
4 ਖਿਦ੍ਯਮਾਨਾ ਮਨੁਜਾ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤੇ ਸਾਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਸਨ੍ਤਿ|
Blessed are those who mourn! for they shall be comforted.
5 ਨਮ੍ਰਾ ਮਾਨਵਾਸ਼੍ਚ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤੇ ਮੇਦਿਨੀਮ੍ ਅਧਿਕਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤਿ|
Blessed are the meek! for they shall inherit the Land.
6 ਧਰ੍ੰਮਾਯ ਬੁਭੁਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਤਾਃ ਤ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼ਾਰ੍ੱਤਾਸ਼੍ਚ ਮਨੁਜਾ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤੇ ਪਰਿਤਰ੍ਪ੍ਸ੍ਯਨ੍ਤਿ|
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness! For they shall be filled.
7 ਕ੍ਰੁʼਪਾਲਵੋ ਮਾਨਵਾ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਪਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਸ੍ਯਨ੍ਤਿ|
Blessed are the merciful! for they shall obtain mercy.
8 ਨਿਰ੍ੰਮਲਹ੍ਰੁʼਦਯਾ ਮਨੁਜਾਸ਼੍ਚ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤ ਈਸ਼੍ਚਰੰ ਦ੍ਰਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤਿ|
Blessed are the pure in heart! for they shall see God.
9 ਮੇਲਯਿਤਾਰੋ ਮਾਨਵਾ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤ ਈਸ਼੍ਚਰਸ੍ਯ ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਤ੍ਵੇਨ ਵਿਖ੍ਯਾਸ੍ਯਨ੍ਤਿ|
Blessed are the peacemakers! for they shall be called children of God.
10 ਧਰ੍ੰਮਕਾਰਣਾਤ੍ ਤਾਡਿਤਾ ਮਨੁਜਾ ਧਨ੍ਯਾ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੀਯਰਾਜ੍ਯੇ ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਮਧਿਕਰੋ ਵਿਦ੍ਯਤੇ|
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake! for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
11 ਯਦਾ ਮਨੁਜਾ ਮਮ ਨਾਮਕ੍ਰੁʼਤੇ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਨਿਨ੍ਦਨ੍ਤਿ ਤਾਡਯਨ੍ਤਿ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼ਾ ਨਾਨਾਦੁਰ੍ੱਵਾਕ੍ਯਾਨਿ ਵਦਨ੍ਤਿ ਚ, ਤਦਾ ਯੁਯੰ ਧਨ੍ਯਾਃ|
“Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 ਤਦਾ ਆਨਨ੍ਦਤ, ਤਥਾ ਭ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੰ ਹ੍ਲਾਦਧ੍ਵਞ੍ਚ, ਯਤਃ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੇ ਭੂਯਾਂਸਿ ਫਲਾਨਿ ਲਪ੍ਸ੍ਯਧ੍ਵੇ; ਤੇ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਪੁਰਾਤਨਾਨ੍ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਦ੍ਵਾਦਿਨੋ(ਅ)ਪਿ ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਗ੍ ਅਤਾਡਯਨ੍|
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13 ਯੁਯੰ ਮੇਦਿਨ੍ਯਾਂ ਲਵਣਰੂਪਾਃ, ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਯਦਿ ਲਵਣਸ੍ਯ ਲਵਣਤ੍ਵਮ੍ ਅਪਯਾਤਿ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਤਤ੍ ਕੇਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੇਣ ਸ੍ਵਾਦੁਯੁਕ੍ਤੰ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ? ਤਤ੍ ਕਸ੍ਯਾਪਿ ਕਾਰ੍ੱਯਸ੍ਯਾਯੋਗ੍ਯਤ੍ਵਾਤ੍ ਕੇਵਲੰ ਬਹਿਃ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੇਪ੍ਤੁੰ ਨਰਾਣਾਂ ਪਦਤਲੇਨ ਦਲਯਿਤੁਞ੍ਚ ਯੋਗ੍ਯੰ ਭਵਤਿ|
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
14 ਯੂਯੰ ਜਗਤਿ ਦੀਪ੍ਤਿਰੂਪਾਃ, ਭੂਧਰੋਪਰਿ ਸ੍ਥਿਤੰ ਨਗਰੰ ਗੁਪ੍ਤੰ ਭਵਿਤੁੰ ਨਹਿ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ|
You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.
15 ਅਪਰੰ ਮਨੁਜਾਃ ਪ੍ਰਦੀਪਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਜ੍ਵਾਲ੍ਯ ਦ੍ਰੋਣਾਧੋ ਨ ਸ੍ਥਾਪਯਨ੍ਤਿ, ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਦੀਪਾਧਾਰੋਪਰ੍ੱਯੇਵ ਸ੍ਥਾਪਯਨ੍ਤਿ, ਤੇਨ ਤੇ ਦੀਪਾ ਗੇਹਸ੍ਥਿਤਾਨ੍ ਸਕਲਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਯਨ੍ਤਿ|
Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
16 ਯੇਨ ਮਾਨਵਾ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਸਤ੍ਕਰ੍ੰਮਾਣਿ ਵਿਲੋਕ੍ਯ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗਸ੍ਥੰ ਪਿਤਰੰ ਧਨ੍ਯੰ ਵਦਨ੍ਤਿ, ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਸਮਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਦੀਪ੍ਤਿਸ੍ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਕ੍ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਤਾਮ੍|
Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify 'Avikah shebashamayim ·your Father in Heaven·.
17 ਅਹੰ ਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਂ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਦ੍ਵਾਕ੍ਯਞ੍ਚ ਲੋਪ੍ਤੁਮ੍ ਆਗਤਵਾਨ੍, ਇੱਥੰ ਮਾਨੁਭਵਤ, ਤੇ ਦ੍ਵੇ ਲੋਪ੍ਤੁੰ ਨਾਗਤਵਾਨ੍, ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਸਫਲੇ ਕਰ੍ੱਤੁਮ੍ ਆਗਤੋਸ੍ਮਿ|
“Don’t think that I came to destroy the Torah ·Teaching· or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18 ਅਪਰੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਅਹੰ ਤਥ੍ਯੰ ਵਦਾਮਿ ਯਾਵਤ੍ ਵ੍ਯੋਮਮੇਦਿਨ੍ਯੋ ਰ੍ਧ੍ਵੰਸੋ ਨ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ, ਤਾਵਤ੍ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਸਫਲੇ ਨ ਜਾਤੇ ਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਯਾ ਏਕਾ ਮਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਬਿਨ੍ਦੁਰੇਕੋਪਿ ਵਾ ਨ ਲੋਪ੍ਸ੍ਯਤੇ|
For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the Torah ·Teaching·, until all things are accomplished.
19 ਤਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਯੋ ਜਨ ਏਤਾਸਾਮ੍ ਆਜ੍ਞਾਨਾਮ੍ ਅਤਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੁਦ੍ਰਾਮ੍ ਏਕਾਜ੍ਞਾਮਪੀ ਲੰਘਤੇ ਮਨੁਜਾਂਞ੍ਚ ਤਥੈਵ ਸ਼ਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਯਤਿ, ਸ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੀਯਰਾਜ੍ਯੇ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇਭ੍ਯਃ ਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੁਦ੍ਰਤ੍ਵੇਨ ਵਿਖ੍ਯਾਸ੍ਯਤੇ, ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਯੋ ਜਨਸ੍ਤਾਂ ਪਾਲਯਤਿ, ਤਥੈਵ ਸ਼ਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਯਤਿ ਚ, ਸ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੀਯਰਾਜ੍ਯੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਤ੍ਵੇਨ ਵਿਖ੍ਯਾਸ੍ਯਤੇ|
Therefore, whoever shall disobey the least mitzvot ·instructions· and teaches others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven (God). But whoever shall obey them and so teaches shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
20 ਅਪਰੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਅਹੰ ਵਦਾਮਿ, ਅਧ੍ਯਾਪਕਫਿਰੂਸ਼ਿਮਾਨਵਾਨਾਂ ਧਰ੍ੰਮਾਨੁਸ਼਼੍ਠਾਨਾਤ੍ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਧਰ੍ੰਮਾਨੁਸ਼਼੍ਠਾਨੇ ਨੋੱਤਮੇ ਜਾਤੇ ਯੂਯਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੀਯਰਾਜ੍ਯੰ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼਼੍ਟੁੰ ਨ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯਥ|
For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Torah-Teachers and Pharisees [Separated], there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
21 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਨਰੰ ਮਾ ਵਧੀਃ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਯੋ ਨਰੰ ਹਨ੍ਤਿ, ਸ ਵਿਚਾਰਸਭਾਯਾਂ ਦਣ੍ਡਾਰ੍ਹੋ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ, ਪੂਰ੍ੱਵਕਾਲੀਨਜਨੇਭ੍ਯ ਇਤਿ ਕਥਿਤਮਾਸੀਤ੍, ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਭਿਰਸ਼੍ਰਾਵਿ|
“You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’
22 ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਹੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵਦਾਮਿ, ਯਃ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਕਾਰਣੰ ਵਿਨਾ ਨਿਜਭ੍ਰਾਤ੍ਰੇ ਕੁਪ੍ਯਤਿ, ਸ ਵਿਚਾਰਸਭਾਯਾਂ ਦਣ੍ਡਾਰ੍ਹੋ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ; ਯਃ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਵੀਯਸਹਜੰ ਨਿਰ੍ੱਬੋਧੰ ਵਦਤਿ, ਸ ਮਹਾਸਭਾਯਾਂ ਦਣ੍ਡਾਰ੍ਹੋ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ; ਪੁਨਸ਼੍ਚ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਮੂਢ ਇਤਿ ਵਾਕ੍ਯੰ ਯਦਿ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਸ੍ਵੀਯਭ੍ਰਾਤਰੰ ਵਕ੍ਤਿ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਨਰਕਾਗ੍ਨੌ ਸ ਦਣ੍ਡਾਰ੍ਹੋ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ| (Geenna g1067)
But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment; and whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca! ·Vain, empty, worthless, to spit upon, good-for-nothing·!’ will be in danger of the Sanhedrin ·Sitting together·; and whoever says, ‘Fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna (Place of fiery torment for the dead). 23 ਅਤੋ ਵੇਦ੍ਯਾਃ ਸਮੀਪੰ ਨਿਜਨੈਵੇਦ੍ਯੇ ਸਮਾਨੀਤੇ(ਅ)ਪਿ ਨਿਜਭ੍ਰਾਤਰੰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਸ੍ਮਾੱਚਿਤ੍ ਕਾਰਣਾਤ੍ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਯਦਿ ਦੋਸ਼਼ੀ ਵਿਦ੍ਯਸੇ, ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਤਵ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਸ੍ਮ੍ਰੁʼਤਿ ਰ੍ਜਾਯਤੇ ਚ,
“If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
24 ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਤਸ੍ਯਾ ਵੇਦ੍ਯਾਃ ਸਮੀਪੇ ਨਿਜਨੈਵੈਦ੍ਯੰ ਨਿਧਾਯ ਤਦੈਵ ਗਤ੍ਵਾ ਪੂਰ੍ੱਵੰ ਤੇਨ ਸਾਰ੍ੱਧੰ ਮਿਲ, ਪਸ਼੍ਚਾਤ੍ ਆਗਤ੍ਯ ਨਿਜਨੈਵੇਦ੍ਯੰ ਨਿਵੇਦਯ|
leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
25 ਅਨ੍ਯਞ੍ਚ ਯਾਵਤ੍ ਵਿਵਾਦਿਨਾ ਸਾਰ੍ੱਧੰ ਵਰ੍ਤ੍ਮਨਿ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਸਿ, ਤਾਵਤ੍ ਤੇਨ ਸਾਰ੍ੱਧੰ ਮੇਲਨੰ ਕੁਰੁ; ਨੋ ਚੇਤ੍ ਵਿਵਾਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰਯਿਤੁਃ ਸਮੀਪੇ ਤ੍ਵਾਂ ਸਮਰ੍ਪਯਤਿ ਵਿਚਾਰਯਿਤਾ ਚ ਰਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਣਃ ਸੰਨਿਧੌ ਸਮਰ੍ਪਯਤਿ ਤਦਾ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਕਾਰਾਯਾਂ ਬਧ੍ਯੇਥਾਃ|
Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him on the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
26 ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਤ੍ਵਾਮਹੰ ਤਥ੍ਥੰ ਬ੍ਰਵੀਮਿ, ਸ਼ੇਸ਼਼ਕਪਰ੍ਦਕੇ(ਅ)ਪਿ ਨ ਪਰਿਸ਼ੋਧਿਤੇ ਤਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਸ੍ਥਾਨਾਤ੍ ਕਦਾਪਿ ਬਹਿਰਾਗਨ੍ਤੁੰ ਨ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯਸਿ|
Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there, until you have paid the last quadrans coin (Roman quarter coin about 3/8 of a cent).
27 ਅਪਰੰ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਮਾ ਵ੍ਯਭਿਚਰ, ਯਦੇਤਦ੍ ਵਚਨੰ ਪੂਰ੍ੱਵਕਾਲੀਨਲੋਕੇਭ੍ਯਃ ਕਥਿਤਮਾਸੀਤ੍, ਤਦ੍ ਯੂਯੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤਵਨ੍ਤਃ;
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not moicheuo ·commit adultery·;’
28 ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਹੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵਦਾਮਿ, ਯਦਿ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਕਾਮਤਃ ਕਾਞ੍ਚਨ ਯੋਸ਼਼ਿਤੰ ਪਸ਼੍ਯਤਿ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਸ ਮਨਸਾ ਤਦੈਵ ਵ੍ਯਭਿਚਰਿਤਵਾਨ੍|
but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has moicheuo ·committed adultery· with her already in his heart.
29 ਤਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤਵ ਦਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਣੰ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੰ ਯਦਿ ਤ੍ਵਾਂ ਬਾਧਤੇ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਤੰਨੇਤ੍ਰਮ੍ ਉਤ੍ਪਾਟ੍ਯ ਦੂਰੇ ਨਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਪ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤਵ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਵਪੁਸ਼਼ੋ ਨਰਕੇ ਨਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੇਪਾਤ੍ ਤਵੈਕਾਙ੍ਗਸ੍ਯ ਨਾਸ਼ੋ ਵਰੰ| (Geenna g1067)
If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna (Place of fiery torment for the dead). (Geenna g1067)
30 ਯਦ੍ਵਾ ਤਵ ਦਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਣਃ ਕਰੋ ਯਦਿ ਤ੍ਵਾਂ ਬਾਧਤੇ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਤੰ ਕਰੰ ਛਿੱਤ੍ਵਾ ਦੂਰੇ ਨਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਪ, ਯਤਃ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਵਪੁਸ਼਼ੋ ਨਰਕੇ ਨਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੇਪਾਤ੍ ਏਕਾਙ੍ਗਸ੍ਯ ਨਾਸ਼ੋ ਵਰੰ| (Geenna g1067)

31 ਉਕ੍ਤਮਾਸ੍ਤੇ, ਯਦਿ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਨ੍ ਨਿਜਜਾਯਾਂ ਪਰਿਤ੍ਯਕ੍ੱਤੁਮ੍ ਇੱਛਤਿ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਸ ਤਸ੍ਯੈ ਤ੍ਯਾਗਪਤ੍ਰੰ ਦਦਾਤੁ|
“It was also said, ‘Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a get ·certificate of divorce·,’
32 ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਹੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵ੍ਯਾਹਰਾਮਿ, ਵ੍ਯਭਿਚਾਰਦੋਸ਼਼ੇ ਨ ਜਾਤੇ ਯਦਿ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਨ੍ ਨਿਜਜਾਯਾਂ ਪਰਿਤ੍ਯਜਤਿ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਸ ਤਾਂ ਵ੍ਯਭਿਚਾਰਯਤਿ; ਯਸ਼੍ਚ ਤਾਂ ਤ੍ਯਕ੍ਤਾਂ ਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਿਯੰ ਵਿਵਹਤਿ, ਸੋਪਿ ਵ੍ਯਭਿਚਰਤਿ|
but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of porhneia ·sexual immorality·, makes her moicheuo ·become an adulterer·; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits moichao ·act of adultery·.
33 ਪੁਨਸ਼੍ਚ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼ਾ ਸ਼ਪਥਮ੍ ਨ ਕੁਰ੍ੱਵਨ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਚਰਾਯ ਨਿਜਸ਼ਪਥੰ ਪਾਲਯ, ਪੂਰ੍ੱਵਕਾਲੀਨਲੋਕੇਭ੍ਯੋ ਯੈਸ਼਼ਾ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਿਤਾ, ਤਾਮਪਿ ਯੂਯੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤਵਨ੍ਤਃ|
“Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to MarYah [Master Yahweh] your vows,’
34 ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਹੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵਦਾਮਿ, ਕਮਪਿ ਸ਼ਪਥੰ ਮਾ ਕਾਰ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਟ, ਅਰ੍ਥਤਃ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗਨਾਮ੍ਨਾ ਨ, ਯਤਃ ਸ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਸਿੰਹਾਸਨੰ;
but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither 'by heaven', for it is the throne of God;
35 ਪ੍ਰੁʼਥਿਵ੍ਯਾ ਨਾਮ੍ਨਾਪਿ ਨ, ਯਤਃ ਸਾ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਪਾਦਪੀਠੰ; ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮੋ ਨਾਮ੍ਨਾਪਿ ਨ, ਯਤਃ ਸਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਸ੍ਯ ਪੁਰੀ;
nor 'by the earth', for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem [City of peace], for it is the city of the great King.
36 ਨਿਜਸ਼ਿਰੋਨਾਮ੍ਨਾਪਿ ਨ, ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤਸ੍ਯੈਕੰ ਕਚਮਪਿ ਸਿਤਮ੍ ਅਸਿਤੰ ਵਾ ਕਰ੍ੱਤੁੰ ਤ੍ਵਯਾ ਨ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਯਤੇ|
Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can’t make one hair white or black.
37 ਅਪਰੰ ਯੂਯੰ ਸੰਲਾਪਸਮਯੇ ਕੇਵਲੰ ਭਵਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਭਵਤੀਤਿ ਚ ਵਦਤ ਯਤ ਇਤੋ(ਅ)ਧਿਕੰ ਯਤ੍ ਤਤ੍ ਪਾਪਾਤ੍ਮਨੋ ਜਾਯਤੇ|
But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
38 ਅਪਰੰ ਲੋਚਨਸ੍ਯ ਵਿਨਿਮਯੇਨ ਲੋਚਨੰ ਦਨ੍ਤਸ੍ਯ ਵਿਨਿਮਯੇਨ ਦਨ੍ਤਃ ਪੂਰ੍ੱਵਕ੍ਤਮਿਦੰ ਵਚਨਞ੍ਚ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਭਿਰਸ਼੍ਰੂਯਤ|
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
39 ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਹੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵਦਾਮਿ ਯੂਯੰ ਹਿੰਸਕੰ ਨਰੰ ਮਾ ਵ੍ਯਾਘਾਤਯਤ| ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਕੇਨਚਿਤ੍ ਤਵ ਦਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਣਕਪੋਲੇ ਚਪੇਟਾਘਾਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤੇ ਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਵਾਮੰ ਕਪੋਲਞ੍ਚ ਵ੍ਯਾਘੋਟਯ|
But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 ਅਪਰੰ ਕੇਨਚਿਤ੍ ਤ੍ਵਯਾ ਸਾਰ੍ਧ੍ਦੰ ਵਿਵਾਦੰ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਵਾ ਤਵ ਪਰਿਧੇਯਵਸਨੇ ਜਿਘ੍ਰੁʼਤਿਤੇ ਤਸ੍ਮਾਯੁੱਤਰੀਯਵਸਨਮਪਿ ਦੇਹਿ|
If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
41 ਯਦਿ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਤ੍ਵਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋਸ਼ਮੇਕੰ ਨਯਨਾਰ੍ਥੰ ਅਨ੍ਯਾਯਤੋ ਧਰਤਿ, ਤਦਾ ਤੇਨ ਸਾਰ੍ਧ੍ਦੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਸ਼ਦ੍ਵਯੰ ਯਾਹਿ|
Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
42 ਯਸ਼੍ਚ ਮਾਨਵਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਾਂ ਯਾਚਤੇ, ਤਸ੍ਮੈ ਦੇਹਿ, ਯਦਿ ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਤ੍ ਤੁਭ੍ਯੰ ਧਾਰਯਿਤੁਮ੍ ਇੱਛਤਿ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਪਰਾਂਮੁਖੋ ਮਾ ਭੂਃ|
Give to him who asks you, and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you.
43 ਨਿਜਸਮੀਪਵਸਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੁਰੁ, ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰੁੰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਦ੍ਵੇਸ਼਼ੰ ਕੁਰੁ, ਯਦੇਤਤ੍ ਪੁਰੋਕ੍ਤੰ ਵਚਨੰ ਏਤਦਪਿ ਯੂਯੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤਵਨ੍ਤਃ|
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall show agapao ·total devoted love· to your neighbor and hate and detest your enemy.’
44 ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਹੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵਦਾਮਿ, ਯੂਯੰ ਰਿਪੁੱਵਪਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੁਰੁਤ, ਯੇ ਚ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਸ਼ਪਨ੍ਤੇ, ਤਾਨ, ਆਸ਼ਿਸ਼਼ੰ ਵਦਤ, ਯੇ ਚ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਰੁʼਤੀਯਨ੍ਤੇ, ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਮਙ੍ਗਲੰ ਕੁਰੁਤ, ਯੇ ਚ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਨਿਨ੍ਦਨ੍ਤਿ, ਤਾਡਯਨ੍ਤਿ ਚ, ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰ੍ਥਯਧ੍ਵੰ|
But I tell you, show agapao ·total devoted love· to your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate and detest you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
45 ਤਤ੍ਰ ਯਃ ਸਤਾਮਸਤਾਞ੍ਚੋਪਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਕਰਮ੍ ਉਦਾਯਯਤਿ, ਤਥਾ ਧਾਰ੍ੰਮਿਕਾਨਾਮਧਾਰ੍ੰਮਿਕਾਨਾਞ੍ਚੋਪਰਿ ਨੀਰੰ ਵਰ੍ਸ਼਼ਯਤਿ ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੋ ਯੋ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗਸ੍ਥਃ ਪਿਤਾ, ਯੂਯੰ ਤਸ੍ਯੈਵ ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਾ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਥ|
that you may be children of 'Avikah shebashamayim ·your Father in Heaven·. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
46 ਯੇ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੁਰ੍ੱਵਨ੍ਤਿ, ਯੂਯੰ ਯਦਿ ਕੇਵਲੰ ਤੇੱਵੇਵ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੁਰੁਥ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਕਿੰ ਫਲੰ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ? ਚਣ੍ਡਾਲਾ ਅਪਿ ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੰ ਕਿੰ ਨ ਕੁਰ੍ੱਵਨ੍ਤਿ?
For if you show agapao ·total devoted love· those who show agapao ·total devoted love· to you, what reward do you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
47 ਅਪਰੰ ਯੂਯੰ ਯਦਿ ਕੇਵਲੰ ਸ੍ਵੀਯਭ੍ਰਾਤ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਵੇਨ ਨਮਤ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਕਿੰ ਮਹਤ੍ ਕਰ੍ੰਮ ਕੁਰੁਥ? ਚਣ੍ਡਾਲਾ ਅਪਿ ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੰ ਕਿੰ ਨ ਕੁਰ੍ੱਵਨ੍ਤਿ?
If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
48 ਤਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗਸ੍ਥਃ ਪਿਤਾ ਯਥਾ ਪੂਰ੍ਣੋ ਭਵਤਿ, ਯੂਯਮਪਿ ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ਾ ਭਵਤ|
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as 'Avikah shebashamayim ·your Father in Heaven· is perfect.
