1 ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਤਿਬਿਰਿਯਕੈਸਰਸ੍ਯ ਰਾਜਤ੍ਵਸ੍ਯ ਪਞ੍ਚਦਸ਼ੇ ਵਤ੍ਸਰੇ ਸਤਿ ਯਦਾ ਪਨ੍ਤੀਯਪੀਲਾਤੋ ਯਿਹੂਦਾਦੇਸ਼ਾਧਿਪਤਿ ਰ੍ਹੇਰੋਦ੍ ਤੁ ਗਾਲੀਲ੍ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਰਾਜਾ ਫਿਲਿਪਨਾਮਾ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ਤੁ ਯਿਤੂਰਿਯਾਯਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਾਖੋਨੀਤਿਯਾਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਚ ਰਾਜਾਸੀਤ੍ ਲੁਸ਼਼ਾਨੀਯਨਾਮਾ ਅਵਿਲੀਨੀਦੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਰਾਜਾਸੀਤ੍
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 ਹਾਨਨ੍ ਕਿਯਫਾਸ਼੍ਚੇਮੌ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਯਾਜਾਕਾਵਾਸ੍ਤਾਂ ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਸਿਖਰਿਯਸ੍ਯ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਾਯ ਯੋਹਨੇ ਮਧ੍ਯੇਪ੍ਰਾਨ੍ਤਰਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਵਾਕ੍ਯੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤੇ ਸਤਿ
in the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 ਸ ਯਰ੍ੱਦਨ ਉਭਯਤਟਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਨ੍ ਸਮੇਤ੍ਯ ਪਾਪਮੋਚਨਾਰ੍ਥੰ ਮਨਃਪਰਾਵਰ੍ੱਤਨਸ੍ਯ ਚਿਹ੍ਨਰੂਪੰ ਯਨ੍ਮੱਜਨੰ ਤਦੀਯਾਃ ਕਥਾਃ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਯਿਤੁਮਾਰੇਭੇ|
And he came into all the region round about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins;
4 ਯਿਸ਼ਯਿਯਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਦ੍ਵਕ੍ਤ੍ਰੁʼਗ੍ਰਨ੍ਥੇ ਯਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੀ ਲਿਪਿਰਾਸ੍ਤੇ ਯਥਾ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਪਨ੍ਥਾਨੰ ਪਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਕੁਰੁਤ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਤਃ| ਤਸ੍ਯ ਰਾਜਪਥਞ੍ਚੈਵ ਸਮਾਨੰ ਕੁਰੁਤਾਧੁਨਾ|
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
5 ਕਾਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤੇ ਸਮੁੱਛ੍ਰਾਯਾਃ ਸਕਲਾ ਨਿਮ੍ਨਭੂਮਯਃ| ਕਾਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤੇ ਨਤਾਃ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇ ਪਰ੍ੱਵਤਾਸ਼੍ਚੋਪਪਰ੍ੱਵਤਾਃ| ਕਾਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤੇ ਚ ਯਾ ਵਕ੍ਰਾਸ੍ਤਾਃ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾਃ ਸਰਲਾ ਭੁਵਃ| ਕਾਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤੇ ਸਮਾਨਾਸ੍ਤਾ ਯਾ ਉੱਚਨੀਚਭੂਮਯਃ|
Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall become straight, And the rough ways smooth;
6 ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੇਣ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤੰ ਤ੍ਰਾਣੰ ਦ੍ਰਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯਨ੍ਤਿ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਮਾਨਵਾਃ| ਇਤ੍ਯੇਤਤ੍ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ੍ਤਰੇ ਵਾਕ੍ਯੰ ਵਦਤਃ ਕਸ੍ਯਚਿਦ੍ ਰਵਃ||
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
7 ਯੇ ਯੇ ਲੋਕਾ ਮੱਜਨਾਰ੍ਥੰ ਬਹਿਰਾਯਯੁਸ੍ਤਾਨ੍ ਸੋਵਦਤ੍ ਰੇ ਰੇ ਸਰ੍ਪਵੰਸ਼ਾ ਆਗਾਮਿਨਃ ਕੋਪਾਤ੍ ਪਲਾਯਿਤੁੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਕਸ਼੍ਚੇਤਯਾਮਾਸ?
He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 ਤਸ੍ਮਾਦ੍ ਇਬ੍ਰਾਹੀਮ੍ ਅਸ੍ਮਾਕੰ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਥਾਮੀਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੀਂ ਮਨੋਭਿ ਰ੍ਨ ਕਥਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਯੂਯੰ ਮਨਃਪਰਿਵਰ੍ੱਤਨਯੋਗ੍ਯੰ ਫਲੰ ਫਲਤ; ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨਹੰ ਯਥਾਰ੍ਥੰ ਵਦਾਮਿ ਪਾਸ਼਼ਾਣੇਭ੍ਯ ਏਤੇਭ੍ਯ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਇਬ੍ਰਾਹੀਮਃ ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨੋਤ੍ਪਾਦਨੇ ਸਮਰ੍ਥਃ|
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਤਰੁਮੂਲੇ(ਅ)ਧੁਨਾਪਿ ਪਰਸ਼ੁਃ ਸੰਲਗ੍ਨੋਸ੍ਤਿ ਯਸ੍ਤਰੁਰੁੱਤਮੰ ਫਲੰ ਨ ਫਲਤਿ ਸ ਛਿਦ੍ਯਤੇ(ਅ)ਗ੍ਨੌ ਨਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਪ੍ਯਤੇ ਚ|
And even now is the axe also laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10 ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਲੋਕਾਸ੍ਤੰ ਪਪ੍ਰੱਛੁਸ੍ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਕਿੰ ਕਰ੍ੱਤਵ੍ਯਮਸ੍ਮਾਭਿਃ?
And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
11 ਤਤਃ ਸੋਵਾਦੀਤ੍ ਯਸ੍ਯ ਦ੍ਵੇ ਵਸਨੇ ਵਿਦ੍ਯੇਤੇ ਸ ਵਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਹੀਨਾਯੈਕੰ ਵਿਤਰਤੁ ਕਿੰਞ੍ਚ ਯਸ੍ਯ ਖਾਦ੍ਯਦ੍ਰਵ੍ਯੰ ਵਿਦ੍ਯਤੇ ਸੋਪਿ ਤਥੈਵ ਕਰੋਤੁ|
And he answered and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
12 ਤਤਃ ਪਰੰ ਕਰਸਞ੍ਚਾਯਿਨੋ ਮੱਜਨਾਰ੍ਥਮ੍ ਆਗਤ੍ਯ ਪਪ੍ਰੱਛੁਃ ਹੇ ਗੁਰੋ ਕਿੰ ਕਰ੍ੱਤਵ੍ਯਮਸ੍ਮਾਭਿਃ?
And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Master, what must we do?
13 ਤਤਃ ਸੋਕਥਯਤ੍ ਨਿਰੂਪਿਤਾਦਧਿਕੰ ਨ ਗ੍ਰੁʼਹ੍ਲਿਤ|
And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you.
14 ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਸੇਨਾਗਣ ਏਤ੍ਯ ਪਪ੍ਰੱਛ ਕਿਮਸ੍ਮਾਭਿ ਰ੍ਵਾ ਕਰ੍ੱਤਵ੍ਯਮ੍? ਤਤਃ ਸੋਭਿਦਧੇ ਕਸ੍ਯ ਕਾਮਪਿ ਹਾਨਿੰ ਮਾ ਕਾਰ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਟ ਤਥਾ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼ਾਪਵਾਦੰ ਮਾ ਕੁਰੁਤ ਨਿਜਵੇਤਨੇਨ ਚ ਸਨ੍ਤੁਸ਼਼੍ਯ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤ|
And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what must we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither exact [anything] wrongfully; and be content with your wages.
15 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਲੋਕਾ ਅਪੇਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਯਾ ਸ੍ਥਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇਪੀਤਿ ਮਨੋਭਿ ਰ੍ਵਿਤਰ੍ਕਯਾਞ੍ਚਕ੍ਰੁਃ, ਯੋਹਨਯਮ੍ ਅਭਿਸ਼਼ਿਕ੍ਤਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਾਤਾ ਨ ਵੇਤਿ?
And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ;
16 ਤਦਾ ਯੋਹਨ੍ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾਨ੍ ਵ੍ਯਾਜਹਾਰ, ਜਲੇ(ਅ)ਹੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਮੱਜਯਾਮਿ ਸਤ੍ਯੰ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਯਸ੍ਯ ਪਾਦੁਕਾਬਨ੍ਧਨੰ ਮੋਚਯਿਤੁਮਪਿ ਨ ਯੋਗ੍ਯੋਸ੍ਮਿ ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ ਏਕੋ ਮੱਤੋ ਗੁਰੁਤਰਃ ਪੁਮਾਨ੍ ਏਤਿ, ਸ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵਹ੍ਨਿਰੂਪੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਤ੍ਮਨਿ ਮੱਜਯਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ|
John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:
17 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਹਸ੍ਤੇ ਸ਼ੂਰ੍ਪ ਆਸ੍ਤੇ ਸ ਸ੍ਵਸ਼ਸ੍ਯਾਨਿ ਸ਼ੁੱਧਰੂਪੰ ਪ੍ਰਸ੍ਫੋਟ੍ਯ ਗੋਧੂਮਾਨ੍ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾਨ੍ ਭਾਣ੍ਡਾਗਾਰੇ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੀਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਬੂਸ਼਼ਾਣਿ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾਣ੍ਯਨਿਰ੍ੱਵਾਣਵਹ੍ਨਿਨਾ ਦਾਹਯਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ|
whose fan is in his hand, throughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
18 ਯੋਹਨ੍ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ੇਨੇੱਥੰ ਨਾਨਾਕਥਾ ਲੋਕਾਨਾਂ ਸਮਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੰ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਯਾਮਾਸ|
With many other exhortations therefore preached he good tidings unto the people;
19 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਹੇਰੋਦ੍ ਰਾਜਾ ਫਿਲਿਪ੍ਨਾਮ੍ਨਃ ਸਹੋਦਰਸ੍ਯ ਭਾਰ੍ੱਯਾਂ ਹੇਰੋਦਿਯਾਮਧਿ ਤਥਾਨ੍ਯਾਨਿ ਯਾਨਿ ਯਾਨਿ ਕੁਕਰ੍ੰਮਾਣਿ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤਵਾਨ੍ ਤਦਧਿ ਚ
but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,
20 ਯੋਹਨਾ ਤਿਰਸ੍ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤੋ ਭੂਤ੍ਵਾ ਕਾਰਾਗਾਰੇ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਬਨ੍ਧਨਾਦ੍ ਅਪਰਮਪਿ ਕੁਕਰ੍ੰਮ ਚਕਾਰ|
added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
21 ਇਤਃ ਪੂਰ੍ੱਵੰ ਯਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਸਮਯੇ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇ ਯੋਹਨਾ ਮੱਜਿਤਾਸ੍ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਰਪ੍ਯਾਗਤ੍ਯ ਮੱਜਿਤਃ|
Now it came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22 ਤਦਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਤੇਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਰ੍ਥਿਤੇ ਮੇਘਦ੍ਵਾਰੰ ਮੁਕ੍ਤੰ ਤਸ੍ਮਾੱਚ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਤ੍ਮਾ ਮੂਰ੍ੱਤਿਮਾਨ੍ ਭੂਤ੍ਵਾ ਕਪੋਤਵਤ੍ ਤਦੁਪਰ੍ੱਯਵਰੁਰੋਹ; ਤਦਾ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਮਮ ਪ੍ਰਿਯਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਯਿ ਮਮ ਪਰਮਃ ਸਨ੍ਤੋਸ਼਼ ਇਤ੍ਯਾਕਾਸ਼ਵਾਣੀ ਬਭੂਵ|
and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
23 ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਃ ਪ੍ਰਾਯੇਣ ਤ੍ਰਿੰਸ਼ਦ੍ਵਰ੍ਸ਼਼ਵਯਸ੍ਕ ਆਸੀਤ੍| ਲੌਕਿਕਜ੍ਞਾਨੇ ਤੁ ਸ ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ,
And Jesus himself, when he began [to teach], was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the [son] of Heli,
24 ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫ੍ ਏਲੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਏਲਿਰ੍ਮੱਤਤਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮੱਤਤ੍ ਲੇਵੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਲੇਵਿ ਰ੍ਮਲ੍ਕੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮਲ੍ਕਿਰ੍ਯਾੰਨਸ੍ਯ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ; ਯਾੰਨੋ ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Jannai, the [son] of Joseph,
25 ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫ੍ ਮੱਤਥਿਯਸ੍ਯ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮੱਤਥਿਯ ਆਮੋਸਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਆਮੋਸ੍ ਨਹੂਮਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਨਹੂਮ੍ ਇਸ਼਼੍ਲੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ ਇਸ਼਼੍ਲਿਰ੍ਨਗੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Amos, the [son] of Nahum, the [son] of Esli, the [son] of Naggai,
26 ਨਗਿਰ੍ਮਾਟਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮਾਟ੍ ਮੱਤਥਿਯਸ੍ਯ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮੱਤਥਿਯਃ ਸ਼ਿਮਿਯੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਸ਼ਿਮਿਯਿਰ੍ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫ੍ ਯਿਹੂਦਾਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Maath, the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Semein, the [son] of Josech, the [son] of Joda,
27 ਯਿਹੂਦਾ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯੋਹਾਨਾ ਰੀਸ਼਼ਾਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਰੀਸ਼਼ਾਃ ਸਿਰੁੱਬਾਬਿਲਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਸਿਰੁੱਬਾਬਿਲ੍ ਸ਼ਲ੍ਤੀਯੇਲਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਸ਼ਲ੍ਤੀਯੇਲ੍ ਨੇਰੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Joanan, the [son] of Rhesa, the [son] of Zerubbabel, the [son] of Shealtiel, the [son] of Neri,
28 ਨੇਰਿਰ੍ਮਲ੍ਕੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮਲ੍ਕਿਃ ਅਦ੍ਯਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਅੱਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼਼ਮਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਕੋਸ਼਼ਮ੍ ਇਲ੍ਮੋਦਦਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਇਲ੍ਮੋਦਦ੍ ਏਰਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Addi, the [son] of Cosam, the [son] of Elmadam, the [son] of Er,
29 ਏਰ੍ ਯੋਸ਼ੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯੋਸ਼ਿਃ ਇਲੀਯੇਸ਼਼ਰਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਇਲੀਯੇਸ਼਼ਰ੍ ਯੋਰੀਮਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯੋਰੀਮ੍ ਮੱਤਤਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮੱਤਤ ਲੇਵੇਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Jesus, the [son] of Eliezer, the [son] of Jorim, the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi,
30 ਲੇਵਿਃ ਸ਼ਿਮਿਯੋਨਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਸ਼ਿਮਿਯੋਨ੍ ਯਿਹੂਦਾਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯਿਹੂਦਾ ਯੂਸ਼਼ੁਫਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯੂਸ਼਼ੁਫ੍ ਯੋਨਨਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯਾਨਨ੍ ਇਲੀਯਾਕੀਮਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Symeon, the [son] of Judas, the [son] of Joseph, the [son] of Jonam, the [son] of Eliakim,
31 ਇਲਿਯਾਕੀਮ੍ਃ ਮਿਲੇਯਾਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮਿਲੇਯਾ ਮੈਨਨਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮੈਨਨ੍ ਮੱਤੱਤਸ੍ਯ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਮੱਤੱਤੋ ਨਾਥਨਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਨਾਥਨ੍ ਦਾਯੂਦਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Melea, the [son] of Menna, the [son] of Mattatha, the [son] of Nathan, the [son] of David,
32 ਦਾਯੂਦ੍ ਯਿਸ਼ਯਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਯਿਸ਼ਯ ਓਬੇਦਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ, ਓਬੇਦ੍ ਬੋਯਸਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਬੋਯਸ੍ ਸਲ੍ਮੋਨਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਸਲ੍ਮੋਨ੍ ਨਹਸ਼ੋਨਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
the [son] of Jesse, the [son] of Obed, the [son] of Boaz, the [son] of Salmon, the [son] of Nahshon,
33 ਨਹਸ਼ੋਨ੍ ਅੰਮੀਨਾਦਬਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਅੰਮੀਨਾਦਬ੍ ਅਰਾਮਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਅਰਾਮ੍ ਹਿਸ਼਼੍ਰੋਣਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਹਿਸ਼਼੍ਰੋਣ੍ ਪੇਰਸਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ, ਪੇਰਸ੍ ਯਿਹੂਦਾਃ ਪੁਤ੍ਰਃ|
