1 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਕਾਲੇ ਰਾਜ੍ਯਸ੍ਯ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਮਾਨਿ ਲੇਖਯਿਤੁਮ੍ ਅਗਸ੍ਤਕੈਸਰ ਆਜ੍ਞਾਪਯਾਮਾਸ|
About that time an edict was issued by the Emperor Augustus that a census should be taken of the whole Empire.
2 ਤਦਨੁਸਾਰੇਣ ਕੁਰੀਣਿਯਨਾਮਨਿ ਸੁਰਿਯਾਦੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਸ਼ਾਸਕੇ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮਲੇਖਨੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਰੇਭੇ|
(This was the first census taken while Quirinius was Governor of Syria).
3 ਅਤੋ ਹੇਤੋ ਰ੍ਨਾਮ ਲੇਖਿਤੁੰ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇ ਜਨਾਃ ਸ੍ਵੀਯੰ ਸ੍ਵੀਯੰ ਨਗਰੰ ਜਗ੍ਮੁਃ|
And everyone went to his own town to be registered.
4 ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫ੍ ਨਾਮ ਲੇਖਿਤੁੰ ਵਾਗ੍ਦੱਤਯਾ ਸ੍ਵਭਾਰ੍ੱਯਯਾ ਗਰ੍ੱਭਵਤ੍ਯਾ ਮਰਿਯਮਾ ਸਹ ਸ੍ਵਯੰ ਦਾਯੂਦਃ ਸਜਾਤਿਵੰਸ਼ ਇਤਿ ਕਾਰਣਾਦ੍ ਗਾਲੀਲ੍ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਨਾਸਰਤ੍ਨਗਰਾਦ੍
Among others Joseph went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem, the town of David, in Judea – because he belonged to the family and house of David –
5 ਯਿਹੂਦਾਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਬੈਤ੍ਲੇਹਮਾਖ੍ਯੰ ਦਾਯੂਦ੍ਨਗਰੰ ਜਗਾਮ|
to be registered with Mary, his engaged wife, who was about to become a mother.
6 ਅਨ੍ਯੱਚ ਤਤ੍ਰ ਸ੍ਥਾਨੇ ਤਯੋਸ੍ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤੋਃ ਸਤੋ ਰ੍ਮਰਿਯਮਃ ਪ੍ਰਸੂਤਿਕਾਲ ਉਪਸ੍ਥਿਤੇ
While they were there her time came,
7 ਸਾ ਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਥਮਸੁਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਸੋਸ਼਼੍ਟ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਵਾਸਗ੍ਰੁʼਹੇ ਸ੍ਥਾਨਾਭਾਵਾਦ੍ ਬਾਲਕੰ ਵਸ੍ਤ੍ਰੇਣ ਵੇਸ਼਼੍ਟਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਗੋਸ਼ਾਲਾਯਾਂ ਸ੍ਥਾਪਯਾਮਾਸ|
and she gave birth to her first child, a son. And because there was no room for them in the inn, she swathed him around and laid him in a manger.
8 ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਯੇ ਕਿਯਨ੍ਤੋ ਮੇਸ਼਼ਪਾਲਕਾਃ ਸ੍ਵਮੇਸ਼਼ਵ੍ਰਜਰਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਾਯੈ ਤਤ੍ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ੇ ਸ੍ਥਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਰਜਨ੍ਯਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ੍ਤਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਰਿਣਃ ਕਰ੍ੰਮ ਕੁਰ੍ੱਵਨ੍ਤਿ,
In that same countryside were shepherds out in the open fields, watching their flocks that night,
9 ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਸਮੀਪੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਦੂਤ ਆਗਤ੍ਯੋਪਤਸ੍ਥੌ; ਤਦਾ ਚਤੁਸ਼਼੍ਪਾਰ੍ਸ਼੍ਵੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਤੇਜਸਃ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤਤ੍ਵਾਤ੍ ਤੇ(ਅ)ਤਿਸ਼ਸ਼ਙ੍ਕਿਰੇ|
when an angel of the Lord suddenly stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were seized with fear.
10 ਤਦਾ ਸ ਦੂਤ ਉਵਾਚ ਮਾ ਭੈਸ਼਼੍ਟ ਪਸ਼੍ਯਤਾਦ੍ਯ ਦਾਯੂਦਃ ਪੁਰੇ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮੰਨਿਮਿੱਤੰ ਤ੍ਰਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁਃ ਖ੍ਰੀਸ਼਼੍ਟੋ(ਅ)ਜਨਿਸ਼਼੍ਟ,
“Have no fear,” the angel said. “For I bring you good news of a great joy in store for all the nation.
11 ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਨਾਂ ਮਹਾਨਨ੍ਦਜਨਕਮ੍ ਇਮੰ ਮਙ੍ਗਲਵ੍ਰੁʼੱਤਾਨ੍ਤੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਜ੍ਞਾਪਯਾਮਿ|
This day there has been born to you, in the town of David, a Savior, who is Christ and Lord.
12 ਯੂਯੰ (ਤਤ੍ਸ੍ਥਾਨੰ ਗਤ੍ਵਾ) ਵਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼਼੍ਟਿਤੰ ਤੰ ਬਾਲਕੰ ਗੋਸ਼ਾਲਾਯਾਂ ਸ਼ਯਨੰ ਦ੍ਰਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯਥ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਦੰ ਚਿਹ੍ਨੰ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ|
And this will be the sign for you. You will find the infant swathed, and lying in a manger.”
13 ਦੂਤ ਇਮਾਂ ਕਥਾਂ ਕਥਿਤਵਤਿ ਤਤ੍ਰਾਕਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੀਯਾਃ ਪ੍ਰੁʼਤਨਾ ਆਗਤ੍ਯ ਕਥਾਮ੍ ਇਮਾਂ ਕਥਯਿਤ੍ਵੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਗੁਣਾਨਨ੍ਵਵਾਦਿਸ਼਼ੁਃ, ਯਥਾ,
Then suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly Host, praising God, and singing –
14 ਸਰ੍ੱਵੋਰ੍ਦ੍ੱਵਸ੍ਥੈਰੀਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸਮ੍ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼੍ਯਤਾਂ| ਸ਼ਾਨ੍ਤਿਰ੍ਭੂਯਾਤ੍ ਪ੍ਰੁʼਥਿਵ੍ਯਾਸ੍ਤੁ ਸਨ੍ਤੋਸ਼਼ਸ਼੍ਚ ਨਰਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ||
“glory to God on high, and on earth peace among those in whom he finds pleasure.”
15 ਤਤਃ ਪਰੰ ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਸੰਨਿਧੇ ਰ੍ਦੂਤਗਣੇ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੰ ਗਤੇ ਮੇਸ਼਼ਪਾਲਕਾਃ ਪਰਸ੍ਪਰਮ੍ ਅਵੇਚਨ੍ ਆਗੱਛਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੁਃ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰੋ ਯਾਂ ਘਟਨਾਂ ਜ੍ਞਾਪਿਤਵਾਨ੍ ਤਸ੍ਯਾ ਯਾਥਰ੍ਯੰ ਜ੍ਞਾਤੁੰ ਵਯਮਧੁਨਾ ਬੈਤ੍ਲੇਹਮ੍ਪੁਰੰ ਯਾਮਃ|
Now, when the angels had left them and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go at once to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has happened, of which the Lord has told us.”
16 ਪਸ਼੍ਚਾਤ੍ ਤੇ ਤੂਰ੍ਣੰ ਵ੍ਰਜਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਮਰਿਯਮੰ ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫੰ ਗੋਸ਼ਾਲਾਯਾਂ ਸ਼ਯਨੰ ਬਾਲਕਞ੍ਚ ਦਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੁਃ|
So they went quickly, and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in a manger;
17 ਇੱਥੰ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ ਬਾਲਕਸ੍ਯਾਰ੍ਥੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਕ੍ਤਾਂ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਕਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਚਾਰਯਾਞ੍ਚਕ੍ਰੁਃ|
and, when they saw it, they told of all that had been said to them about this child.
18 ਤਤੋ ਯੇ ਲੋਕਾ ਮੇਸ਼਼ਰਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਕਾਣਾਂ ਵਦਨੇਭ੍ਯਸ੍ਤਾਂ ਵਾਰ੍ੱਤਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਸ਼੍ਰੁਵੁਸ੍ਤੇ ਮਹਾਸ਼੍ਚਰ੍ੱਯੰ ਮੇਨਿਰੇ|
All who heard the shepherds were astonished at their story,
19 ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਮਰਿਯਮ੍ ਏਤਤ੍ਸਰ੍ੱਵਘਟਨਾਨਾਂ ਤਾਤ੍ਪਰ੍ੱਯੰ ਵਿਵਿਚ੍ਯ ਮਨਸਿ ਸ੍ਥਾਪਯਾਮਾਸ|
while Mary treasured in her heart all that they said, and thought about it often.
20 ਤਤ੍ਪਸ਼੍ਚਾਦ੍ ਦੂਤਵਿਜ੍ਞਪ੍ਤਾਨੁਰੂਪੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤ੍ਵਾ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ ਚ ਮੇਸ਼਼ਪਾਲਕਾ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਗੁਣਾਨੁਵਾਦੰ ਧਨ੍ਯਵਾਦਞ੍ਚ ਕੁਰ੍ੱਵਾਣਾਃ ਪਰਾਵ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਯ ਯਯੁਃ|
And the shepherds went back, giving glory and praise to God for all that they had heard and seen. It had all happened as they had been told.
21 ਅਥ ਬਾਲਕਸ੍ਯ ਤ੍ਵਕ੍ਛੇਦਨਕਾਲੇ(ਅ)ਸ਼਼੍ਟਮਦਿਵਸੇ ਸਮੁਪਸ੍ਥਿਤੇ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਗਰ੍ੱਭਸ੍ਥਿਤੇਃ ਪੁਰ੍ੱਵੰ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੀਯਦੂਤੋ ਯਥਾਜ੍ਞਾਪਯਤ੍ ਤਦਨੁਰੂਪੰ ਤੇ ਤੰਨਾਮਧੇਯੰ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਰਿਤਿ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਰੇ|
Eight days after the birth of the child, when it was time to circumcise him, he received the name Jesus – the name given him by the angel before his conception.
22 ਤਤਃ ਪਰੰ ਮੂਸਾਲਿਖਿਤਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਯਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੇਣ ਮਰਿਯਮਃ ਸ਼ੁਚਿਤ੍ਵਕਾਲ ਉਪਸ੍ਥਿਤੇ,
When the period of purification of mother and child, required by the Law of Moses, came to an end, his parents took the child up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,
23 "ਪ੍ਰਥਮਜਃ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਃ ਪੁਰੁਸ਼਼ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਃ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ ਸਮਰ੍ਪ੍ਯਤਾਂ," ਇਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਯਾ
in compliance with the Law of the Lord that every firstborn male will be dedicated to the Lord,
24 ਯੀਸ਼ੁੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ ਸਮਰ੍ਪਯਿਤੁਮ੍ ਸ਼ਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਰੀਯਵਿਧ੍ਯੁਕ੍ਤੰ ਕਪੋਤਦ੍ਵਯੰ ਪਾਰਾਵਤਸ਼ਾਵਕਦ੍ਵਯੰ ਵਾ ਬਲਿੰ ਦਾਤੁੰ ਤੇ ਤੰ ਗ੍ਰੁʼਹੀਤ੍ਵਾ ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮਮ੍ ਆਯਯੁਃ|
and also to offer the sacrifice required by the Law of the Lord – a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons.
25 ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮ੍ਪੁਰਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸ਼ਿਮਿਯੋੰਨਾਮਾ ਧਾਰ੍ੰਮਿਕ ਏਕ ਆਸੀਤ੍ ਸ ਇਸ੍ਰਾਯੇਲਃ ਸਾਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਨਾਮਪੇਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯ ਤਸ੍ਥੌ ਕਿਞ੍ਚ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਤ੍ਮਾ ਤਸ੍ਮਿੰਨਾਵਿਰ੍ਭੂਤਃ|
There was at that time in Jerusalem a man named Simeon, a righteous and devout man, who lived in constant expectation of Israel’s consulation, and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
26 ਅਪਰੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁਣਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰੇਣਾਭਿਸ਼਼ਿਕ੍ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਾਤਰਿ ਤ੍ਵਯਾ ਨ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟੇ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਨ ਮਰਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਸੀਤਿ ਵਾਕ੍ਯੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੇਣ ਆਤ੍ਮਨਾ ਤਸ੍ਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਕਥ੍ਯਤ|
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not die until he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਯਦਾ ਯੀਸ਼ੋਃ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਚ ਤਦਰ੍ਥੰ ਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਨੁਰੂਪੰ ਕਰ੍ੰਮ ਕਰ੍ੱਤੁੰ ਤੰ ਮਨ੍ਦਿਰਮ੍ ਆਨਿਨ੍ਯਤੁਸ੍ਤਦਾ
Moved by the Spirit, Simeon came into the Temple Courts, and, when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the Law,
28 ਸ਼ਿਮਿਯੋਨ੍ ਆਤ੍ਮਨ ਆਕਰ੍ਸ਼਼ਣੇਨ ਮਨ੍ਦਿਰਮਾਗਤ੍ਯ ਤੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਡੇ ਨਿਧਾਯ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਧਨ੍ਯਵਾਦੰ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਵਾ ਕਥਯਾਮਾਸ, ਯਥਾ,
Simeon himself took the child in his arms, and blessed God, and said:
29 ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੋ ਤਵ ਦਾਸੋਯੰ ਨਿਜਵਾਕ੍ਯਾਨੁਸਾਰਤਃ| ਇਦਾਨੀਨ੍ਤੁ ਸਕਲ੍ਯਾਣੋ ਭਵਤਾ ਸੰਵਿਸ੍ਰੁʼਜ੍ਯਤਾਮ੍|
“Now, Lord, you will let your servant go, according to your word, in peace,
30 ਯਤਃ ਸਕਲਦੇਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਦੀਪ੍ਤਯੇ ਦੀਪ੍ਤਿਰੂਪਕੰ|
for my eyes have seen the salvation
31 ਇਸ੍ਰਾਯੇਲੀਯਲੋਕਸ੍ਯ ਮਹਾਗੌਰਵਰੂਪਕੰ|
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations –
32 ਯੰ ਤ੍ਰਾਯਕੰ ਜਨਾਨਾਨ੍ਤੁ ਸੰਮੁਖੇ ਤ੍ਵਮਜੀਜਨਃ| ਸਏਵ ਵਿਦ੍ਯਤੇ(ਅ)ਸ੍ਮਾਕੰ ਧ੍ਰਵੰ ਨਯਨਨਗੋਚਰੇ||
a light to bring light to the Gentiles, and to be the glory of your people Israel.”
33 ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਤੇਨੋਕ੍ਤਾ ਏਤਾਃ ਸਕਲਾਃ ਕਥਾਃ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤ੍ਵਾ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਮਾਤਾ ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫ੍ ਚ ਵਿਸ੍ਮਯੰ ਮੇਨਾਤੇ|
While the child’s father and mother were wondering at what was said about him,
34 ਤਤਃ ਪਰੰ ਸ਼ਿਮਿਯੋਨ੍ ਤੇਭ੍ਯ ਆਸ਼ਿਸ਼਼ੰ ਦੱਤ੍ਵਾ ਤਨ੍ਮਾਤਰੰ ਮਰਿਯਮਮ੍ ਉਵਾਚ, ਪਸ਼੍ਯ ਇਸ੍ਰਾਯੇਲੋ ਵੰਸ਼ਮਧ੍ਯੇ ਬਹੂਨਾਂ ਪਾਤਨਾਯੋੱਥਾਪਨਾਯ ਚ ਤਥਾ ਵਿਰੋਧਪਾਤ੍ਰੰ ਭਵਿਤੁੰ, ਬਹੂਨਾਂ ਗੁਪ੍ਤਮਨੋਗਤਾਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਟੀਕਰਣਾਯ ਬਾਲਕੋਯੰ ਨਿਯੁਕ੍ਤੋਸ੍ਤਿ|
Simeon gave them his blessing, and said to Mary, the child’s mother, “This child is appointed to be the cause of the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign much spoken against –
35 ਤਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਤਵਾਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਃ ਸ਼ੂਲੇਨ ਵ੍ਯਤ੍ਸ੍ਯਨ੍ਤੇ|
Yes, the sword will pierce your own heart – and so the thoughts in many minds will be disclosed.”
36 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਆਸ਼ੇਰਸ੍ਯ ਵੰਸ਼ੀਯਫਿਨੂਯੇਲੋ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਹੰਨਾਖ੍ਯਾ ਅਤਿਜਰਤੀ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਦ੍ਵਾਦਿਨ੍ਯੇਕਾ ਯਾ ਵਿਵਾਹਾਤ੍ ਪਰੰ ਸਪ੍ਤ ਵਤ੍ਸਰਾਨ੍ ਪਤ੍ਯਾ ਸਹ ਨ੍ਯਵਸਤ੍ ਤਤੋ ਵਿਧਵਾ ਭੂਤ੍ਵਾ ਚਤੁਰਸ਼ੀਤਿਵਰ੍ਸ਼਼ਵਯਃਪਰ੍ੱਯਨਤੰ
There was also a prophet named Hannah, a daughter of Phanuel and of the tribe of Asher. She was far advanced in years, having lived with her husband for seven years after marriage,
37 ਮਨ੍ਦਿਰੇ ਸ੍ਥਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਰ੍ਥਨੋਪਵਾਸੈਰ੍ਦਿਵਾਨਿਸ਼ਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਮ੍ ਅਸੇਵਤ ਸਾਪਿ ਸ੍ਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਸਮਯੇ ਮਨ੍ਦਿਰਮਾਗਤ੍ਯ
and then a widow, until she had reached the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple Courts, but, fasting and praying, worshiped God night and day.
38 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਧਨ੍ਯਵਾਦੰ ਚਕਾਰ, ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮ੍ਪੁਰਵਾਸਿਨੋ ਯਾਵਨ੍ਤੋ ਲੋਕਾ ਮੁਕ੍ਤਿਮਪੇਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯ ਸ੍ਥਿਤਾਸ੍ਤਾਨ੍ ਯੀਸ਼ੋਰ੍ਵ੍ਰੁʼੱਤਾਨ੍ਤੰ ਜ੍ਞਾਪਯਾਮਾਸ|
At that moment she came up, and began publicly to thank God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the deliverance of Jerusalem.
39 ਇੱਥੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਨੁਸਾਰੇਣ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇਸ਼਼ੁ ਕਰ੍ੰਮਸੁ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤੇਸ਼਼ੁ ਤੌ ਪੁਨਸ਼੍ਚ ਗਾਲੀਲੋ ਨਾਸਰਤ੍ਨਾਮਕੰ ਨਿਜਨਗਰੰ ਪ੍ਰਤਸ੍ਥਾਤੇ|
When the child’s parents had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.
40 ਤਤ੍ਪਸ਼੍ਚਾਦ੍ ਬਾਲਕਃ ਸ਼ਰੀਰੇਣ ਵ੍ਰੁʼੱਧਿਮੇਤ੍ਯ ਜ੍ਞਾਨੇਨ ਪਰਿਪੂਰ੍ਣ ਆਤ੍ਮਨਾ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਤਿਮਾਂਸ਼੍ਚ ਭਵਿਤੁਮਾਰੇਭੇ ਤਥਾ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੋ ਬਭੂਵ|
The child grew and became strong and wise, and the blessing of God was on him.
41 ਤਸ੍ਯ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਚ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਵਰ੍ਸ਼਼ੰ ਨਿਸ੍ਤਾਰੋਤ੍ਸਵਸਮਯੇ ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮਮ੍ ਅਗੱਛਤਾਮ੍|
Every year the child’s parents used to go to Jerusalem at the Passover Festival.
42 ਅਪਰਞ੍ਚ ਯੀਸ਼ੌ ਦ੍ਵਾਦਸ਼ਵਰ੍ਸ਼਼ਵਯਸ੍ਕੇ ਸਤਿ ਤੌ ਪਰ੍ੱਵਸਮਯਸ੍ਯ ਰੀਤ੍ਯਨੁਸਾਰੇਣ ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮੰ ਗਤ੍ਵਾ
When Jesus was twelve years old, they went according to custom to Jerusalem,
43 ਪਾਰ੍ੱਵਣੰ ਸਮ੍ਪਾਦ੍ਯ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਵ੍ਯਾਘੁੱਯ ਯਾਤਃ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਰ੍ਬਾਲਕੋ ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮਿ ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ| ਯੂਸ਼਼ਫ੍ ਤਨ੍ਮਾਤਾ ਚ ਤਦ੍ ਅਵਿਦਿਤ੍ਵਾ
and had finished their visit; but, when they started to return, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, without their knowing it.
44 ਸ ਸਙ੍ਗਿਭਿਃ ਸਹ ਵਿਦ੍ਯਤ ਏਤੱਚ ਬੁਦ੍ੱਵਾ ਦਿਨੈਕਗਮ੍ਯਮਾਰ੍ਗੰ ਜਗ੍ਮਤੁਃ| ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼਼ੇ ਜ੍ਞਾਤਿਬਨ੍ਧੂਨਾਂ ਸਮੀਪੇ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਗਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਤਦੁੱਦੇਸ਼ਮਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਯ
Thinking that he was with their fellow travelers, they went one day’s journey before searching for him among their relatives and acquaintances;
45 ਤੌ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਯਿਰੂਸ਼ਾਲਮਮ੍ ਪਰਾਵ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਯਾਗਤ੍ਯ ਤੰ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਗਯਾਞ੍ਚਕ੍ਰਤੁਃ|
and then, as they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching everywhere for him.
46 ਅਥ ਦਿਨਤ੍ਰਯਾਤ੍ ਪਰੰ ਪਣ੍ਡਿਤਾਨਾਂ ਮਧ੍ਯੇ ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਕਥਾਃ ਸ਼੍ਰੁʼਣ੍ਵਨ੍ ਤੱਤ੍ਵੰ ਪ੍ਰੁʼੱਛੰਸ਼੍ਚ ਮਨ੍ਦਿਰੇ ਸਮੁਪਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਟਃ ਸ ਤਾਭ੍ਯਾਂ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟਃ|
It was not until the third day that they found him in the Temple Courts, sitting among the teachers, now listening to them, now asking them questions.
47 ਤਦਾ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਬੁੱਧ੍ਯਾ ਪ੍ਰਤ੍ਯੁੱਤਰੈਸ਼੍ਚ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਤਾਰੋ ਵਿਸ੍ਮਯਮਾਪਦ੍ਯਨ੍ਤੇ|
All who listened to him marveled at his intelligence and his answers.
48 ਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੰ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟ੍ਵਾ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਜਨਕੋ ਜਨਨੀ ਚ ਚਮੱਚਕ੍ਰਤੁਃ ਕਿਞ੍ਚ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਮਾਤਾ ਤਮਵਦਤ੍, ਹੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ, ਕਥਮਾਵਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀੱਥੰ ਸਮਾਚਰਸ੍ਤ੍ਵਮ੍? ਪਸ਼੍ਯ ਤਵ ਪਿਤਾਹਞ੍ਚ ਸ਼ੋਕਾਕੁਲੌ ਸਨ੍ਤੌ ਤ੍ਵਾਮਨ੍ਵਿੱਛਾਵਃ ਸ੍ਮ|
His parents were amazed when they saw him, and his mother said to him, “My child, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.”
49 ਤਤਃ ਸੋਵਦਤ੍ ਕੁਤੋ ਮਾਮ੍ ਅਨ੍ਵੈੱਛਤੰ? ਪਿਤੁਰ੍ਗ੍ਰੁʼਹੇ ਮਯਾ ਸ੍ਥਾਤਵ੍ਯਮ੍ ਏਤਤ੍ ਕਿੰ ਯੁਵਾਭ੍ਯਾਂ ਨ ਜ੍ਞਾਯਤੇ?
“What made you search for me?” he answered. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
50 ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਤੌ ਤਸ੍ਯੈਤਦ੍ਵਾਕ੍ਯਸ੍ਯ ਤਾਤ੍ਪਰ੍ੱਯੰ ਬੋੱਧੁੰ ਨਾਸ਼ਕ੍ਨੁਤਾਂ|
His parents did not understand what he meant.
51 ਤਤਃ ਪਰੰ ਸ ਤਾਭ੍ਯਾਂ ਸਹ ਨਾਸਰਤੰ ਗਤ੍ਵਾ ਤਯੋਰ੍ਵਸ਼ੀਭੂਤਸ੍ਤਸ੍ਥੌ ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾ ਏਤਾਃ ਕਥਾਸ੍ਤਸ੍ਯ ਮਾਤਾ ਮਨਸਿ ਸ੍ਥਾਪਯਾਮਾਸ|
However he went down with them to Nazareth, and submitted himself to their control; and his mother treasured all that was said in her heart.
52 ਅਥ ਯੀਸ਼ੋ ਰ੍ਬੁੱਧਿਃ ਸ਼ਰੀਰਞ੍ਚ ਤਥਾ ਤਸ੍ਮਿਨ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਮਾਨਵਾਨਾਞ੍ਚਾਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੋ ਵਰ੍ੱਧਿਤੁਮ੍ ਆਰੇਭੇ|
And Jesus grew in wisdom as he grew in years, and gained the blessing of God and people.
