1 ibrāhīmaḥ santāno dāyūd tasya santāno yīśukhrīṣṭastasya pūrvvapuruṣavaṁśaśreṇī|
A record of the genealogy of Jesus (the) Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 ibrāhīmaḥ putra ishāk tasya putro yākūb tasya putro yihūdāstasya bhrātaraśca|
Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
3 tasmād yihūdātastāmaro garbhe perasserahau jajñāte, tasya perasaḥ putro hiṣroṇ tasya putro 'rām|
and Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez was the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram,

and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon,
5 tasmād rāhabo garbhe boyam jajñe, tasmād rūto garbhe obed jajñe, tasya putro yiśayaḥ|
and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed was the father of Jesse,
6 tasya putro dāyūd rājaḥ tasmād mṛtoriyasya jāyāyāṁ sulemān jajñe|
and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah;
7 tasya putro rihabiyām, tasya putro'biyaḥ, tasya putra āsā: |
and Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa;
8 tasya suto yihośāphaṭ tasya suto yihorāma tasya suta uṣiyaḥ|
and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah,
9 tasya suto yotham tasya suta āham tasya suto hiṣkiyaḥ|
and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah;
10 tasya suto minaśiḥ, tasya suta āmon tasya suto yośiyaḥ|
and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah,
11 bābilnagare pravasanāt pūrvvaṁ sa yośiyo yikhaniyaṁ tasya bhrātṛṁśca janayāmāsa|
and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12 tato bābili pravasanakāle yikhaniyaḥ śaltīyelaṁ janayāmāsa, tasya sutaḥ sirubbāvil|
And after the exile to Babylon, Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
13 tasya suto 'bohud tasya suta ilīyākīm tasya suto'sor|
and Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, and Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azzur,
14 asoraḥ sutaḥ sādok tasya suta ākhīm tasya suta ilīhūd|
and Azzur the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Ahiam, and Ahiam the father of Elihud,
15 tasya suta iliyāsar tasya suto mattan|
and Elihud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob,
16 tasya suto yākūb tasya suto yūṣaph tasya jāyā mariyam; tasya garbhe yīśurajani, tameva khrīṣṭam (arthād abhiṣiktaṁ) vadanti|
and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus, who is called the Messiah.
17 ittham ibrāhīmo dāyūdaṁ yāvat sākalyena caturdaśapuruṣāḥ; ā dāyūdaḥ kālād bābili pravasanakālaṁ yāvat caturdaśapuruṣā bhavanti| bābili pravāsanakālāt khrīṣṭasya kālaṁ yāvat caturdaśapuruṣā bhavanti|
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the exile to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the exile to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.
18 yīśukhrīṣṭasya janma kaththate| mariyam nāmikā kanyā yūṣaphe vāgdattāsīt, tadā tayoḥ saṅgamāt prāk sā kanyā pavitreṇātmanā garbhavatī babhūva|
Now the birth of Jesus (the) Messiah happened like this. His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, and before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
19 tatra tasyāḥ pati ryūṣaph saujanyāt tasyāḥ kalaṅgaṁ prakāśayitum anicchan gopanene tāṁ pārityaktuṁ manaścakre|
And Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.
20 sa tathaiva bhāvayati, tadānīṁ parameśvarasya dūtaḥ svapne taṁ darśanaṁ dattvā vyājahāra, he dāyūdaḥ santāna yūṣaph tvaṁ nijāṁ jāyāṁ mariyamam ādātuṁ mā bhaiṣīḥ|
But when he thought about these things, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21 yatastasyā garbhaḥ pavitrādātmano'bhavat, sā ca putraṁ prasaviṣyate, tadā tvaṁ tasya nāma yīśum (arthāt trātāraṁ) karīṣyase, yasmāt sa nijamanujān teṣāṁ kaluṣebhya uddhariṣyati|
And she will bring forth a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
22 itthaṁ sati, paśya garbhavatī kanyā tanayaṁ prasaviṣyate| immānūyel tadīyañca nāmadheyaṁ bhaviṣyati|| immānūyel asmākaṁ saṅgīśvara̮ityarthaḥ|
Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
23 iti yad vacanaṁ purvvaṁ bhaviṣyadvaktrā īśvaraḥ kathāyāmāsa, tat tadānīṁ siddhamabhavat|
"Look, the virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call his name Immanuel;" which is translated, "God with us."
24 anantaraṁ yūṣaph nidrāto jāgarita utthāya parameśvarīyadūtasya nideśānusāreṇa nijāṁ jāyāṁ jagrāha,
And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself;
25 kintu yāvat sā nijaṁ prathamasutaṁ a suṣuve, tāvat tāṁ nopāgacchat, tataḥ sutasya nāma yīśuṁ cakre|
and had no marital relations with her until she had brought forth a son; and he named him Jesus.
