1 anantaraṁ ṣaḍdinebhyaḥ paraṁ yīśuḥ pitaraṁ yākūbaṁ tatsahajaṁ yohanañca gṛhlan uccādre rviviktasthānam āgatya teṣāṁ samakṣaṁ rūpamanyat dadhāra|
After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.
2 tena tadāsyaṁ tejasvi, tadābharaṇam ālokavat pāṇḍaramabhavat|
He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.
3 anyacca tena sākaṁ saṁlapantau mūsā eliyaśca tebhyo darśanaṁ dadatuḥ|
And look, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.
4 tadānīṁ pitaro yīśuṁ jagāda, he prabho sthitiratrāsmākaṁ śubhā, yadi bhavatānumanyate, tarhi bhavadarthamekaṁ mūsārthamekam eliyārthañcaikam iti trīṇi dūṣyāṇi nirmmama|
Peter answered, and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let us make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
5 etatkathanakāla eka ujjavalaḥ payodasteṣāmupari chāyāṁ kṛtavān, vāridād eṣā nabhasīyā vāg babhūva, mamāyaṁ priyaḥ putraḥ, asmin mama mahāsantoṣa etasya vākyaṁ yūyaṁ niśāmayata|
While he was still speaking, look, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And look, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him."
6 kintu vācametāṁ śṛṇvantaeva śiṣyā mṛśaṁ śaṅkamānā nyubjā nyapatan|
When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.
7 tadā yīśurāgatya teṣāṁ gātrāṇi spṛśan uvāca, uttiṣṭhata, mā bhaiṣṭa|
Jesus came and touched them and said, "Get up, and do not be afraid."
8 tadānīṁ netrāṇyunmīlya yīśuṁ vinā kamapi na dadṛśuḥ|
And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus alone.
9 tataḥ param adreravarohaṇakāle yīśustān ityādideśa, manujasutasya mṛtānāṁ madhyādutthānaṁ yāvanna jāyate, tāvat yuṣmābhiretaddarśanaṁ kasmaicidapi na kathayitavyaṁ|
As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Do not tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead."
10 tadā śiṣyāstaṁ papracchuḥ, prathamam eliya āyāsyatīti kuta upādhyāyairucyate?
The disciples asked him, saying, "Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
11 tato yīśuḥ pratyavādīt, eliyaḥ prāgetya sarvvāṇi sādhayiṣyatīti satyaṁ,
And he answered and said, "Elijah indeed comes, and will restore all things,
12 kintvahaṁ yuṣmān vacmi, eliya etya gataḥ, te tamaparicitya tasmin yathecchaṁ vyavajahuḥ; manujasutenāpi teṣāmantike tādṛg duḥkhaṁ bhoktavyaṁ|
but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them."
13 tadānīṁ sa majjayitāraṁ yohanamadhi kathāmetāṁ vyāhṛtavān, itthaṁ tacchiṣyā bubudhire|
Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptist.
14 paścāt teṣu jananivahasyāntikamāgateṣu kaścit manujastadantikametya jānūnī pātayitvā kathitavān,
And when they came to the crowd, a man came to him, knelt before him,
15 he prabho, matputraṁ prati kṛpāṁ vidadhātu, sopasmārāmayena bhṛśaṁ vyathitaḥ san punaḥ puna rvahnau muhu rjalamadhye patati|
and said, "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
16 tasmād bhavataḥ śiṣyāṇāṁ samīpe tamānayaṁ kintu te taṁ svāsthaṁ karttuṁ na śaktāḥ|
So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him."
17 tadā yīśuḥ kathitavān re aviśvāsinaḥ, re vipathagāminaḥ, punaḥ katikālān ahaṁ yuṣmākaṁ sannidhau sthāsyāmi? katikālān vā yuṣmān sahiṣye? tamatra mamāntikamānayata|
Jesus answered, "Faithless and perverse generation. How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me."
18 paścād yīśunā tarjataeva sa bhūtastaṁ vihāya gatavān, taddaṇḍaeva sa bālako nirāmayo'bhūt|
Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.
19 tataḥ śiṣyā guptaṁ yīśumupāgatya babhāṣire, kuto vayaṁ taṁ bhūtaṁ tyājayituṁ na śaktāḥ?
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, "Why weren't we able to cast it out?"
20 yīśunā te proktāḥ, yuṣmākamapratyayāt;
So he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."
21 yuṣmānahaṁ tathyaṁ vacmi yadi yuṣmākaṁ sarṣapaikamātropi viśvāso jāyate, tarhi yuṣmābhirasmin śaile tvamitaḥ sthānāt tat sthānaṁ yāhīti brūte sa tadaiva caliṣyati, yuṣmākaṁ kimapyasādhyañca karmma na sthāsyāti| kintu prārthanopavāsau vinaitādṛśo bhūto na tyājyeta|
22 aparaṁ teṣāṁ gālīlpradeśe bhramaṇakāle yīśunā te gaditāḥ, manujasuto janānāṁ kareṣu samarpayiṣyate tai rhaniṣyate ca,
While they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
23 kintu tṛtīye'hina ma utthāpiṣyate, tena te bhṛśaṁ duḥkhitā babhūvaḥ|
and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up." They were exceedingly sorry.
24 tadanantaraṁ teṣu kapharnāhūmnagaramāgateṣu karasaṁgrāhiṇaḥ pitarāntikamāgatya papracchuḥ, yuṣmākaṁ guruḥ kiṁ mandirārthaṁ karaṁ na dadāti? tataḥ pitaraḥ kathitavān dadāti|
When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins came to Peter, and said, "Does not your teacher pay the didrachma?"
25 tatastasmin gṛhamadhyamāgate tasya kathākathanāt pūrvvameva yīśuruvāca, he śimon, medinyā rājānaḥ svasvāpatyebhyaḥ kiṁ videśibhyaḥ kebhyaḥ karaṁ gṛhlanti? atra tvaṁ kiṁ budhyase? tataḥ pitara uktavān, videśibhyaḥ|
He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?"
26 tadā yīśuruktavān, tarhi santānā muktāḥ santi|
And when he said, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Therefore the children are exempt.
27 tathāpi yathāsmābhisteṣāmantarāyo na janyate, tatkṛte jaladhestīraṁ gatvā vaḍiśaṁ kṣipa, tenādau yo mīna utthāsyati, taṁ ghṛtvā tanmukhe mocite tolakaikaṁ rūpyaṁ prāpsyasi, tad gṛhītvā tava mama ca kṛte tebhyo dehi|
But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you."
