1 vayaṁ mṛtijanakakarmmabhyo manaḥparāvarttanam īśvare viśvāso majjanaśikṣaṇaṁ hastārpaṇaṁ mṛtalokānām utthānam
Therefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Messiah, let us press on to perfection—not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God,
2 anantakālasthāyivicārājñā caitaiḥ punarbhittimūlaṁ na sthāpayantaḥ khrīṣṭaviṣayakaṁ prathamopadeśaṁ paścātkṛtya siddhiṁ yāvad agrasarā bhavāma| (aiōnios g166)
of the teaching of washings, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of everlasting judgment. (aiōnios g166)
3 īśvarasyānumatyā ca tad asmābhiḥ kāriṣyate|
And this we will do if God permits.
4 ya ekakṛtvo dīptimayā bhūtvā svargīyavararasam āsvaditavantaḥ pavitrasyātmano'ṁśino jātā
For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5 īśvarasya suvākyaṁ bhāvikālasya śaktiñcāsvaditavantaśca te bhraṣṭvā yadi (aiōn g165)
and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, (aiōn g165)
6 svamanobhirīśvarasya putraṁ punaḥ kruśe ghnanti lajjāspadaṁ kurvvate ca tarhi manaḥparāvarttanāya punastān navīnīkarttuṁ ko'pi na śaknoti|
and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify the Son of God for themselves again, and put him to open shame.
7 yato yā bhūmiḥ svopari bhūyaḥ patitaṁ vṛṣṭiṁ pivatī tatphalādhikāriṇāṁ nimittam iṣṭāni śākādīnyutpādayati sā īśvarād āśiṣaṁ prāptā|
For the land which has drunk the rain that comes often on it, and brings forth a crop suitable for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receives blessing from God;
8 kintu yā bhūmi rgokṣurakaṇṭakavṛkṣān utpādayati sā na grāhyā śāpārhā ca śeṣe tasyā dāho bhaviṣyati|
but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near being cursed, whose end is to be burned.
9 he priyatamāḥ, yadyapi vayam etādṛśaṁ vākyaṁ bhāṣāmahe tathāpi yūyaṁ tata utkṛṣṭāḥ paritrāṇapathasya pathikāścādhva iti viśvasāmaḥ|
But, beloved, we are persuaded of better things for you, and things that accompany salvation, even though we speak like this.
10 yato yuṣmābhiḥ pavitralokānāṁ ya upakāro 'kāri kriyate ca teneśvarasya nāmne prakāśitaṁ prema śramañca vismarttum īśvaro'nyāyakārī na bhavati|
For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.
11 aparaṁ yuṣmākam ekaiko jano yat pratyāśāpūraṇārthaṁ śeṣaṁ yāvat tameva yatnaṁ prakāśayedityaham icchāmi|
We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end,
12 ataḥ śithilā na bhavata kintu ye viśvāsena sahiṣṇutayā ca pratijñānāṁ phalādhikāriṇo jātāsteṣām anugāmino bhavata|
that you won't be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherited the promises.
13 īśvaro yadā ibrāhīme pratyajānāt tadā śreṣṭhasya kasyāpyaparasya nāmnā śapathaṁ karttuṁ nāśaknot, ato hetoḥ svanāmnā śapathaṁ kṛtvā tenoktaṁ yathā,
For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he swore by himself,
14 "satyam ahaṁ tvām āśiṣaṁ gadiṣyāmi tavānvayaṁ varddhayiṣyāmi ca|"
saying, "I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply you."
15 anena prakāreṇa sa sahiṣṇutāṁ vidhāya tasyāḥ pratyāśāyāḥ phalaṁ labdhavān|
Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
16 atha mānavāḥ śreṣṭhasya kasyacit nāmnā śapante, śapathaśca pramāṇārthaṁ teṣāṁ sarvvavivādāntako bhavati|
For people swear oaths by something greater, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.
17 ityasmin īśvaraḥ pratijñāyāḥ phalādhikāriṇaḥ svīyamantraṇāyā amoghatāṁ bāhulyato darśayitumicchan śapathena svapratijñāṁ sthirīkṛtavān|
In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;
18 ataeva yasmin anṛtakathanam īśvarasya na sādhyaṁ tādṛśenācalena viṣayadvayena sammukhastharakṣāsthalasya prāptaye palāyitānām asmākaṁ sudṛḍhā sāntvanā jāyate|
that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.
19 sā pratyāśāsmākaṁ manonaukāyā acalo laṅgaro bhūtvā vicchedakavastrasyābhyantaraṁ praviṣṭā|
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the curtain;
20 tatraivāsmākam agrasaro yīśuḥ praviśya malkīṣedakaḥ śreṇyāṁ nityasthāyī yājako'bhavat| (aiōn g165)
where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. (aiōn g165)
