Hebreus 11
1 É por confiarem [em Deus ]que as pessoas têm certeza de que receberão as coisas que esperam, confiantes, que [Deus lhes dê]. Elas têm certeza também [de que verão acontecerem essas coisas, ]mesmo que ninguém as tenha visto ainda.
It is because people trust [God] that they are sure that they will receive the things that they confidently expect [God to give them]. They are also certain [that they will see those things], though no one sees them yet.
2 Foi por nossos antepassados confiarem em Deus que [ele ]os elogiou.
It was because our ancestors trusted in God that they pleased him.
3 É por confiarmos em Deus que entendemos que Deus formou o universo por simplesmente mandar [que este existisse]. Como resultado, as [coisas que vemos ]não [foram ]feitas de coisas que já existiam. (aiōn g165)
It is because we trust in God that we understand that he formed the universe by commanding [it to exist]. The result is that the things that we see were not made from things that already existed. (aiōn g165)
4 Foi por Abel, [filho de Adão, ]confiar em Deus que ele sacrificou a Deus algo melhor que aquilo que [seu irmão mais velho, ]Caim, tinha oferecido a Deus. Por Abel ter feito isso, quando Deus falou bem daquilo que Abel sacrificou, Deus declarou que Abel era justo. Embora Abel já esteja morto, continuamos aprendendo com ele [como se confia em Deus.]
It was because [Adam’s son] Abel trusted God that he sacrificed something better to God than what [his older brother] Cain offered to God. Because Abel did that, when God spoke well about what Abel sacrificed, God declared that Abel was righteous. And although Abel is dead, we still learn from him [about trusting God].
5 Foi por Enoque crer em [Deus que Deus ]o levou [para o céu. ]O resultado foi que ele não morreu. Ninguém encontrou o corpo dele, pois ele foi arrebatado {[Deus ]o arrebatou} da terra [para o céu]. Antes de [Deus ]o arrebatar, [ele ]testemunhou que Enoque lhe agradava muito.
It was because Enoch believed [God that God] took him [up to heaven]. The result was that he did not die. No one found him, because he was taken up {[God] had removed him} from the earth [to heaven]. Before [God] took him away, [he] testified that Enoch pleased him well.
6 É possível as pessoas agradarem a Deus só se confiam em Deus, pois todos aqueles que desejam aproximar-se de Deus devem crer, em primeiro lugar, que Deus existe e que ele premia aqueles que procuram [conhecê-lo].
It is possible for people to please God only if they trust God, because anyone who wants to come to God must first believe that God exists and that he rewards those who seek [to know] him.
7 Foi por Noé confiar [em Deus ]que, depois de ser advertido por Deus {depois que [Deus ]o advertiu} sobre [um dilúvio que ]não tinha acontecido ainda, Noé [mostrou que ]reverenciava a Deus por construir um grande navio para salvar sua família. Ao fazer isso, ele [mostrou a todas as pessoas que não acreditavam nas palavras dele ][MTY] [que elas mereciam ser condenadas ]{[que Deus iria ]condená-las}. Ele se tornou uma pessoa que Deus declarou justa por causa da sua confiança em Deus.
It was because Noah trusted [God] that after he was warned by God {after [God] warned him} about [a flood that] had not yet happened, Noah [showed that he] revered God by building a huge ship to save his family. By doing that, he [showed all the people who did not believe him] [MTY] [that they deserved to be condemned] {[that God would] condemn them}. He was someone whom God declared to be righteous because of his trusting in God.
8 Foi por Abraão confiar em Deus que, quando foi chamado {quando [Deus ]o convocou}, ele obedeceu a [Deus], saiu [do seu próprio país ]e se dirigiu a um lugar que Deus daria a ele. Abraão deixou seu próprio país, mesmo que não soubesse para onde iria.
It was because Abraham trusted God that when he was told to go {when [God] told him to go}, he obeyed [God], he left [his own country], and went to a place that God would give him. Abraham left his own country, even though he did not know where he would be going.
9 Foi por confiar em Deus que Abraão vivia como se fosse estrangeiro numa terra que [Deus ]lhe tinha prometido. Abraão morava em tendas, e seu filho Isaque e neto Jacó seguiram a mesma prática. Deus prometeu dar- lhes as mesmas coisas que prometera dar a Abraão.
It was because Abraham trusted God that he lived as though he was a foreigner in the land that [God] had promised to him. Abraham lived in tents, and his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob did also. God promised to give to Isaac and Jacob the same things that he promised to give Abraham.
10 Abraão esperava morar numa cidade [no céu ]que permaneceria para sempre [MET]. É esta uma cidade que Deus está construindo [DOU].
Abraham was waiting to live in a city [in heaven] that would exist forever [MET]. It was a city that God is building [DOU].
11 Foi por Abraão confiar em Deus que Deus lhe deu forças para que ele [pudesse ]produzir um filho. Mesmo que sua esposa Sara tivesse ultrapassado a idade [de as mulheres terem filhos, Deus ]prometeu [que lhe daria um filho, ]e Abraão acreditou que Deus faria o que tinha prometido fazer.
It was because Abraham trusted God that God gave Abraham strength so that he [was] able to produce a son. Even though his wife Sarah was past the age [when women bear children], [God] promised [that he would give her a son], and Abraham considered that God would do what he promised to do.
12 Portanto, embora Abraão fosse velho demais para ter filhos, daquele indivíduo descenderam muitas pessoas, tantas em número como as estrelas no céu e tão inúmeras quanto os grãos de areia na praia, [bem como Deus lhe prometeu.]
So, although Abraham was also too old to have children, so many people descended from that one man that they were as numerous as the stars in the sky and are as countless as the grains of sand along the seashore, [just like God promised him].
13 Foi enquanto eles ainda confiavam em Deus que todas essas pessoas morreram. Mesmo que não tivessem recebido ainda as coisas que Deus tinha prometido dar a elas, [foi como se ]vissem essas coisas de longe. Elas estavam contentes [de saber ]daquilo que ele tinha prometido. Foi como se elas confessassem que não eram desta terra, mas que moravam aqui só provisoriamente.
It was while they still trusted in God that all those people died. Even though they had not yet received the things that God had promised to give them, [it was as though] they saw those things in a distance. They were glad [to know] about what God promised. It was as though they admitted that they were not from this earth, but that they were only here temporarily.
14 No tocante às pessoas que—dizem/creem—tais coisas, elas mostram claramente que estão almejando [um lugar que se tornará ]a verdadeira pátria delas.
As for those people who talk like that, they clearly show that they long for [a place that will become] their true native land.
15 Se tivessem pensado [naquele lugar como sendo ]o local de onde tinham saído, bem poderiam ter aproveitado a oportunidade de voltar lá.
If they had been thinking about [that place being] the place from which they had come, they would have taken the opportunity to return there.
16 Mas, em vez disso, elas desejavam um [lugar ]superior [em que habitar; ]quer dizer, elas desejavam [um lar ]no céu. Portanto, Deus já lhes preparou uma cidade onde podem morar [com ele ]e ele se agrada [LIT] quando elas afirmam que ele é o Deus delas.
But, instead, they desired a better [place in which to live]; that is, they desired [a home] in heaven. So God has prepared a city for them to live [with him], and he is pleased [LIT] for them to say that he is their God.
17 Foi por Abraão confiar [em Deus ]que ele [estava disposto a ]matar seu filho Isaque como sacrifício quando [Deus ]o pôs à prova. Este mesmo homem, a quem [Deus ]prometera [dar—um filho/muitos descendentes—, ]sacrificaria [aquele mesmo filho], o único filho [que sua própria esposa tinha dado à luz! ]
It was because Abraham trusted [God] that he [was ready to] kill his son Isaac as a sacrifice when [God] tested him. This same man to whom [God] promised [to give] ([a son/many descendants]) was going to sacrifice [that same son], the only son [whom his own wife had borne]!
18 Foi a ele que Deus disse: “É [só ]de Isaque que considerarei a descendência da sua família”.
It was to Abraham that God said, “It is [only] from Isaac that I will consider your family to descend.”
19 Abraão achava que, [para cumprir aquela promessa, ]Deus poderia ressuscitar [Isaque, mesmo que ]este tivesse morrido [após ser sacrificado por Abraão]! O resultado foi que, quando Abraão recebeu Isaque de volta [após Deus mandar que ele não fizesse mal a Isaque], foi como se o recebesse de volta até depois da morte.
Abraham considered that [to fulfill that promise], God could make [Isaac] live again [even if] he had died [after Abraham sacrificed him]! The result was that when Abraham did receive Isaac back [after God told him not to harm Isaac], it was as though he received him back even after he died.
20 Foi por Isaque confiar em Deus que ele [orou que Deus abençoasse seus filhos, ]Jacó e Esaú, —- posteriormente/depois [da morte de Isaque].—
It was because Isaac trusted God that he [prayed that after he died, God would] bless [his] sons Jacob and Esau.
21 Foi por Jacó confiar em Deus que, ao morrer, ele [orou que Deus fosse ]abençoar cada um dos filhos [do seu próprio filho José. ]Ele adorou a Deus, apoiado na sua bengala, [antes de morrer. ]
It was because Jacob trusted God that, as he was dying, he [prayed that God would] bless each of the sons of [his own son Joseph]. He worshipped God as he leaned upon his walking stick [before he died].
22 Foi por confiar José em Deus que, quando estava para morrer [no Egito], ele anteviu a época em que os israelitas sairiam do Egito e ele mandou [que o povo dele levasse consigo os ossos dele— ]ao sair do Egito/voltar para Canaã.—
It was because Joseph trusted God that, when he was about to die [in Egypt], he anticipated the time when the Israelis would leave Egypt; and he instructed [that] his people [should carry] his bones [with them when they] ([left Egypt/returned to Canaan]).
23 Foi por confiarem em Deus que o pai e mãe de Moisés esconderam-no durante três meses pouco depois do nascimento dele, pois viram que a criança era linda. Eles não tinham medo de [desobedecer ]aquilo que o rei do Egito tinha mandado, [isto é, que fossem mortos todos os recém- nascidos judeus do sexo masculino.]
It was because Moses’ father and mother trusted God that they hid [their son] for three months shortly after he was born, because they saw that he was so beautiful. They were not afraid of [disobeying] what the king of Egypt had commanded, [namely, that all the Jewish male babies must be killed].
24 A filha do [rei, chamado de ]Faraó, [criou ]Moisés, mas quando este já estava crescido, foi por ele confiar em Deus que recusou [aceitar os privilégios que ele teria se as pessoas ]o considerassem—filho da filha do rei/neto do rei.—
The daughter of the [king, whom they called] Pharaoh, [raised] Moses, but when he had grown up, it was because he trusted God that he refused to [accept the privileges that would have been his if people] considered that he was (the son of the king’s daughter/the king’s own grandson).
25 Ele resolveu que seria melhor que os outros o maltratassem por algum tempo, em companhia dos demais israelitas, do que desfrutar provisoriamente uma vida pecaminosa [no palácio do rei. ]
He decided that it was better for others to mistreat him for a time along with the Israeli people, than to temporarily enjoy living sinfully [in the King’s palace].
26 Isso aconteceu porque ele resolveu que, se sofresse pelo Messias, seria de mais valor [aos olhos de Deus ]do que se ele fosse dono de todos os tesouros do Egito [que receberia como herdeiro do Faraó. Ele tomou essa decisão ]porque antevia a época quando [Deus lhe daria ]um galardão [eterno. ]
This is because he decided that if he suffered for the Messiah, it would be worth far more [in God’s sight] than his owning all the treasures of Egypt [that he would receive as Pharaoh’s heir. He decided that] because he looked forward to the time when [God would give him] an [eternal] reward.
27 Foi por confiar em Deus que ele saiu do Egito. Ele não tinha medo de que o rei fosse se zangar por ele ter procedido assim. Ele—continuava em frente/não olhava para trás, —pois [foi como se ]ele continuasse contemplando a [Deus], a quem ninguém pode ver.
It was because he trusted God that he left Egypt. He was not afraid that the king would be angry [because of his doing that]. He (kept going/did not turn back) because [it was as though] he kept seeing [God], whom no one can see.
28 Foi por Moisés acreditar [que Deus salvaria seu próprio povo ]que ele instituiu o [festival chamado ]a Páscoa. Ele procedeu assim [por mandar que as pessoas matassem cordeiros e ]borrifassem o sangue deles nas portas [de suas casas. ]Elas fizeram isso para que [o anjo ]que fizesse as pessoas morrerem não matasse [EUP] os israelitas mais velhos do sexo masculino [ao matar os filhos mais velhos de todas as famílias egípcias.]
It was because Moses believed [that God would save his own people] that he instituted the [festival called] Passover. He did that [by commanding that the people should kill lambs and] sprinkle their blood [on their] doorposts. They did that in order that [the angel who] causes people to die would not kill [EUP] the oldest male Israelites [when he killed the oldest sons in each Egyptian family].
29 Foi por eles confiarem em Deus que, quando os [israelitas ]atravessaram o lugar onde [ficava ]antes o mar Vermelho, foi como se eles andassem em terra seca! Mas, quando [o exército do ]Egito tentou [atravessar essa mesma água, ]todos os soldados se afogaram, pois [o mar voltou e os inundou!]
It was because they trusted God that [when] the [Israelite] people walked through [where] the Red Sea [had been, it was] as [though they walked] on dry land! But, when the [army of] Egypt also attempted to [cross that same water], they drowned, because [the sea came back and flooded them]!
30 Foi pelos [israelitas ]confiarem em Deus que as muralhas ao redor [da cidade ]de Jericó ruíram, depois que os israelitas tinham marchado ao redor delas durante sete dias.
It was because the [Israeli] people trusted God that the walls around Jericho [city] collapsed, after the Israelis marched around the walls for seven days.
31 Raabe [tinha sido ]prostituta, mas por confiar em Deus, ela não pereceu junto com aqueles [que estavam dentro de Jericó ]e que tinham desobedecido [a Deus. Josué mandou alguns espiões ]para dentro da cidade [para ]descobrirem maneiras de destruí-la, mas Deus a salvou {salvou a Raabe} porque ela acolheu pacificamente aqueles espiões.
Rahab [had been] a prostitute, but because she trusted God, she did not perish with those [inside Jericho] who disobeyed [God. Joshua sent some spies] into the city [in order] to find ways to destroy it, but God saved her because she welcomed those spies [peaceably].
32 Não sei que mais devo dizer [RHQ] [sobre outros que confiavam em Deus. ]Levaria demasiado tempo contar sobre Gideão, Baraque, Sansão, Jefté, Davi, Samuel e os [demais ]profetas.
I do not know what more I should say [RHQ] [about others who trusted in God]. It would take too much time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the [other] prophets.
33 Foi por eles confiarem em Deus que alguns deles [realizaram grandes proezas em nome dele. ]Alguns deles conquistaram terras governadas por homens poderosos. Alguns governaram [Israel ]e [puniram ]com justiça [aqueles homens e nações que se rebelaram contra Deus. ]Alguns deles obtiveram [de Deus ]as coisas que ele prometera dar-lhes [MTY]; alguns deles obrigaram os leões a manterem a boca fechada.
It was because they trusted God that some of them [did great things for him]. Some conquered lands ruled by powerful men. Some ruled [Israel] and justly [punished those men and nations who rebelled against God]. Some obtained [from God] the things that he promised to give them [MTY].
34 Alguns escaparam de ser destruídos pelo fogo. Algumas dessas pessoas escaparam de [ser mortas à ]espada [MTY]. Algumas das [pessoas que confiavam em Deus ]ficaram fortalecidas {se tornaram poderosas} novamente após períodos de fraqueza. Algumas delas se tornaram poderosas ao lutarem em guerras. Outras fizeram com que fugissem exércitos [vindos de terras estrangeiras].
Some forced lions to keep their mouths shut. Some escaped from being destroyed by fire. Some of those people escaped from [being killed with] a sword [MTY]. Some of those [people who trusted God] were made strong {became mighty} again after they had once been weak. Some became powerful when they fought wars. Some caused armies [that came from foreign lands] to run away from them.
35 Algumas mulheres [que confiavam em Deus ]receberam de volta [seus parentes ]quando [Deus lhes deu vida depois de—terem morrido/os ressuscitou dentre os mortos.—]Mas [outros que confiavam em Deus ]foram torturados até morrer. Eles foram torturados porque recusaram concordar quando [seus capturadores disseram: ]“[Vamos ]soltar vocês [se negarem crer em Deus”. Eles recusaram fazer isso, ]pois desejavam morar para sempre com Deus, o qual é melhor do que [continuar vivendo na terra ]após quase terem morrido.
Some women [who trusted God] received [their relatives] back again when [God] ([made them live again after they had died/raised them from the dead]). But [others who trusted God] were tortured until they died. They were tortured because they refused to agree when [their captors said, “We will] release you [if you deny that you believe in God.” They refused to do that], because they wanted to live with God forever, which is better than [continuing to live on earth] after having almost died.
36 Outras [pessoas que confiavam em Deus ]foram ridicularizadas; [algumas tinham as costas ]cortadas, [sendo surradas ]com chicotes. Algumas ficaram acorrentadas e encarceradas.
Other [people who trusted God] were mocked; [some had their backs] cut [open by being struck] with leaded whips. Some were chained and put in prison.
37 [Alguns ]daqueles crentes foram apedrejados até à morte {As pessoas [mataram alguns daqueles crentes, ]arremessando-lhes pedras}. Outros foram serrados pelo meio. Outros foram mortos à espada. Outros desses que confiavam em Deus andaram pela terra, de um lado a outro, [usando apenas roupas feitas de ]peles de ovelhas e cabras. Não tinham nenhum dinheiro. Foram continuamente oprimidos e atormentados {As pessoas os oprimiam e atormentavam continuamente}.
[Some of] those believers were stoned to death {People [killed some of those believers by] throwing stones at them}. Others were cut completely in two. Others were killed with swords. Others of these people who trusted God wandered around the land [wearing garments made only of] skins from sheep and goats. They did not have any money. They were continually oppressed and tormented {People continuously oppressed them and tormented them}.
38 [Os habitantes da terra que faziam com que aqueles que confiavam em Deus sofressem eram tão maus que ]nem mereciam [conviver com pessoas ]como aquelas [que confiavam em Deus. Alguns daqueles que confiavam em Deus ]vaguearam nos desertos e áreas montanhosas. Alguns deles moravam em cavernas e em outros buracos [grandes ]no chão.
[The people on earth who caused those who trusted in God to suffer were so bad that] they did not deserve [to live with people who trusted God. Some who trusted God] wandered in deserts and on mountains. Some lived in caves and in other [large] holes in the ground.
39 Embora todas essas pessoas fossem elogiadas [por Deus ]{[Deus ]elogiasse todas essas pessoas} por confiarem nele, Deus não lhes deu tudo que tinha prometido a elas [enquanto estavam vivas. ]
Although all these people were commended [by God] {[God] commended all these people} because they trusted him, God did not give them all that he promised them [while they were alive].
40 Deus sabia de antemão que aquilo que ele daria [posteriormente ]a elas, e a nós, seria melhor do que dar-[lhes imediatamente aquilo que ele tinha prometido]. O que Deus pretende é que só depois de estarmos unidos nós e eles é que tenhamos tudo que Deus pretende nos dar.
God knew ahead of time that what he would give us and them [later] would be better than giving [them immediately what he promised]. What God intends is that only when they and we are together will we have all that God intends us to have.
