Atos 18
1 Depois disso, Paulo saiu da [cidade de ]Atenas e se dirigiu à [cidade ]de Corinto.
After that, Paul left Athens [city] and went to Corinth [city].
2 Ele encontrou ali um judeu chamado Áquila, que fora criado na [província de ]Ponto. Áquila e sua esposa, Priscila, tinham chegado pouco antes da [cidade de Roma, no país ]de Itália. [Eles tinham saído anteriormente de Roma ]porque Cláudio, [imperador romano, ]tinha mandado que todos os judeus saíssem de Roma. Paulo foi ver Áquila e Priscila.
There he met a Jew whose name was Aquila, who grew up in Pontus [province]. Aquila and his wife Priscilla had recently come from [Rome, in] Italy. [They had previously left Rome] because Claudius, [the Roman Emperor], had ordered that all the Jews must leave Rome. Paul later went to see Aquila and Priscilla.
3 Eles dois faziam barracas/tendas [para ganhar dinheiro. ]Paulo também sabia fazer tendas/barracas, portanto ficou algum tempo com eles e todos três trabalharam juntos.
Those two made tents [to earn] ([money/a living]). Paul also made tents, so he stayed with them, and they all worked together.
4 Em cada dia de descanso judaico, Paulo [ia ]à casa de reuniões dos judeus e falava com energia aos judeus e gentios/não judeus. Tentava repetidamente persuadi-los de [que Jesus é o Messias.]
Every Sabbath, Paul [went] to the Jewish meeting place, where he spoke forcefully to both Jews and non-Jews. He repeatedly tried to persuade them [that Jesus is the Messiah].
5 Então Silas e Timóteo chegaram da Macedônia. Após a chegada deles, Paulo [deixou de fazer tendas/barracas. Ele ]passou a dedicar todo seu tempo à pregação [da mensagem sobre Jesus na casa de reuniões dos judeus. ]Continuava explicando aos judeus que [ele tinha encontrado Jesus pessoalmente e que sabia ]que Jesus era o Messias.
Then Silas and Timothy arrived there from Macedonia province. After they arrived, Paul [did not make tents any more. He] used all his time preaching [the message about Jesus in the Jewish meeting place]. He continued to tell the Jews [that] the Messiah they had been waiting for was Jesus.
6 Mas os judeus começaram a opor-se a Paulo. Passaram a dizer coisas malévolas sobre ele. Por isso ele sacudiu [o pó das ]roupas [em sinal de que eles estavam desagradando a Deus. Então ]ele lhes disse: “Se Deus castigar vocês, a culpa [MTY] será de vocês mesmos [SYN] e não minha! Daqui em diante, [eu pregarei ]aos gentios/não judeus!”
But the Jews began to oppose Paul and to say evil things about him. So he shook [the dust from] his clothes [to show them that they were displeasing God. Then] he said to them, “If God punishes you, it will be your [SYN] own fault [MTY], not mine! From now on I will go [and preach] to non-Jewish people!”
7 Portanto, Paulo saiu [da casa de reuniões ]e, dirigindo-se a uma casa que ficava ao lado, [passou a pregar lá. ]O dono daquela casa era Tício Justo, um não judeu que tinha aceitado a crença dos judeus.
So Paul left [the Jewish meeting place] and went into a house that was next to it, [and preached there]. Titius Justus, the owner of the house, was a non-Jewish man who had accepted what the Jews believe.
8 [Depois disso], o chefe da sinagoga, [que se chamava ]Crispo, e todos os membros da família [MTY] dele passaram a crer no Senhor [Jesus]. Muitos outros residentes de Corinto que escutavam a pregação [de Paulo ]também creram [em Jesus. ]Então eles foram batizados {alguém [do grupo de Paulo ]os batizou}. [Mas houve outras pessoas que continuavam opondo-se a Paulo e a pregação dele.]
[After that], the ruler of the Jewish meeting place, [whose name was] Crispus, and all of his family [MTY] believed in the Lord [Jesus]. Many other people in Corinth who listened [to Paul] also believed [in Jesus]. Then they were baptized. [But there were people who still opposed Paul and his preaching].
9 Certa noite Paulo teve uma visão, na qual o Senhor [Jesus ]lhe dizia: “Não tenha medo [daqueles que se opõem a você. ]Pelo contrário, continue falando [sobre mim às pessoas. ]Não desista,
One night Paul had a vision in which the Lord [Jesus] said to him, “Do not be afraid [of those who oppose you]. Instead, you should continue speaking [to people about me]. Do not stop,
10 pois [lhe ajudarei ]e ninguém poderá fazer-lhe mal [aqui. Continue falando-lhes de mim], pois há nesta cidade muitas pessoas que [crerão em ]mim”.
because I [will help] you, and no one will be able to harm you [(sg) here. Keep telling people about me], because there are many in this city who will [believe in] me.”
11 Por isso Paulo ficou em Corinto durante um ano e meio, ensinando ao público a mensagem de Deus [acerca de Jesus.]
So Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching people the message from God [about Jesus].
12 Quando Gálio era governador [romano ]da [província ]de Acaia, os [líderes ]judeus [SYN] daquela região se juntaram e pegaram Paulo. Eles o levaram ao governador [e o acusaram ali. ]
When Gallio was the [Roman] governor of Achaia [province], the Jewish [leaders] [SYN] there got together and seized Paul. They took him before Gallio [and accused him],
13 Eles disseram: “Este homem ensina ao público [uma religião falsa, levando as pessoas a ]adorarem a Deus de formas contrárias às nossas leis [judaicas”. ]
saying, “This man is teaching people [a false religion, leading them] to worship God in ways that are contrary to our [Jewish] laws.”
14 Quando Paulo estava para falar [MTY] [em defesa própria], Gálio disse aos judeus: “Eu estaria disposto a ouvir [com paciência ]aquilo que vocês judeus [querem me dizer, ]se este homem tivesse agido de forma dolosa ou tivesse desobedecido [algumas das nossas ]leis [romanas. ]
When Paul was about to speak [MTY] [to defend himself], Gallio said to the Jews, “If this man had acted deceitfully or disobeyed [any of our Roman] laws, I would listen [patiently] to what you Jews [want to tell me].
15 Porém, vocês estão argumentando exclusivamente sobre palavras e nomes e suas próprias leis [judaicas, ]portanto vocês mesmos devem resolver esse problema. Não julgarei este pleito, não!”
However, you are merely arguing about words and names and your own [Jewish] laws, so you yourselves need to resolve this. I refuse to judge these things!”
16 Após Gálio [ter dito isso, ]ele [mandou alguns soldados/guardas, ]os quais afugentaram aqueles líderes judeus do tribunal.
After Gallio [had said that], he [commanded some soldiers/guards] that [they] expel those [Jewish leaders] from the courtroom.
17 Então todas as demais pessoas [que se tinham congregado na praça pública ]pegaram o chefe da sinagoga, Sóstenes, e o surraram ali mesmo na presença de Gálio. Embora Gálio [observasse o que eles estavam fazendo], não fez nada para impedi-lo.
Then [the mob outside] grabbed the leader of the Jewish meeting place, Sosthenes [because they considered that he was responsible for those accusations against Paul]. They beat him, right there in front of the courthouse. But Gallio did nothing about it.
18 Paulo ficou muitos dias mais com os cristãos de Corinto. Depois se despediu dos cristãos dali, indo-se embora com Priscila e [seu marido ]Áquila. Eles se dirigiram a Cencreia, [uma cidade portuária, ]onde Paulo mandou [alguém ]raspar-lhe a cabeça para cumprir/realizar um voto que ele tinha tomado. Depois, embarcaram no navio e partiram para a [província ]de Síria.
Paul stayed on with the believers in Corinth for (many days/some time). Then he left the believers there, and went with Priscilla and [her husband] Aquila. They went down to Cenchrea, [a port city]. There Paul had his head shaved {[someone] shave his head} in order to partially complete a vow that he had taken. Then they got on a ship and sailed for Syria [province].
19 Eles chegaram à [cidade de ]Éfeso, onde Priscila e Áquila resolveram ficar. [Antes de sair de Éfeso], Paulo entrou na casa de reuniões dos judeus e palestrou/falou com os judeus.
They arrived at Ephesus [city], and Priscilla and Aquila stayed there. [Before Paul left Ephesus], he entered the Jewish meeting place and lectured to the Jews.
20 Os judeus lhe pediram para ficar mais tempo, mas ele não quis.
They asked him to stay longer, but he refused.
21 Contudo, ao partir, ele lhes disse: “Pretendo voltar, se Deus [assim quiser]”. Então, [desejoso de chegar a Jerusalém para cumprir seu voto, ]Paulo [embarcou num navio que] partia de Éfeso.
But, as he left, he told them, “I will come back, if God wills/desires [me to do that].” Then, [because he wanted to be in Jerusalem to finish completing his vow], he got on [a ship that] sailed from Ephesus.
22 Quando o navio chegou a Cesareia, [uma cidade portuária, ]Paulo [desembarcou. ]Ele se dirigiu [a Jerusalém ]e cumprimentou os cristãos ali. Depois ele voltou à [cidade de ]Antioquia, [na província de Síria.]
When the ship arrived at Caesarea, Paul [got off. He] went up [to Jerusalem] and greeted the believers there. Then he went back down to Antioch [city in Syria province].
23 Paulo passou algum tempo [com os cristãos ]ali. Depois saiu da Antioquia e viajou para várias cidadezinhas [que tinha visitado anteriormente. Elas ficavam nas províncias de ]Galácia e Frígia. Ele ensinava aos cristãos ainda mais [da mensagem de Deus sobre Jesus.]
Paul spent some time [with the believers] there. Then he left Antioch and traveled to several towns [that he had visited previously] in Galatia and Phrygia [provinces]. He taught all of the believers more [of the message from God about Jesus].
24 [Enquanto Paulo viajava na Galácia e na Frígia], chegou a Éfeso um judeu chamado Apolo. Ele era natural da cidade de Alexandria. [Falava com eloquência ]e conhecia a fundo as Escrituras.
[While Paul was traveling in Galatia and Phrygia], a Jewish man whose name was Apollos came to Ephesus. He was a native of Alexandria [city]. He [spoke eloquently] and he knew the Scriptures thoroughly.
25 Ele tinha aprendido {[Outros cristãos ]lhe tinham ensinado/dito} [algumas coisas ]sobre como o Senhor [Jesus deseja que as pessoas ]se comportem, e ele ensinava essas coisas [publicamente ]com muito entusiasmo. [Ele tinha ouvido falar ]de algumas das coisas que Jesus tinha dito e feito e ensinava esses fatos/detalhes acuradamente [às pessoas. Contudo, era incompleto o seu ensino sobre Jesus, pois ]sabia apenas aquilo que João [o Batista/Batizador tinha ensinado às pessoas que ele ]batizava.
[Other believers] had taught him [some things] about how the Lord [Jesus desires that people] should conduct themselves, and he taught those things very enthusiastically [to people. He had heard about] some of the things that Jesus did and said, and he taught those facts accurately [to people. However, he was teaching incompletely about Jesus, because] he knew only what John [the Baptizer had taught people whom he] baptized.
26 Apolo foi à casa de reuniões dos judeus e falou com confiança às pessoas ali reunidas acerca das coisas que ele tinha aprendido. Quando Priscila e Áquila ouviram o ensino dele, eles o convidaram [à casa deles. ]Ali eles explicaram a ele com mais precisão a maneira em que Deus [desejava que as pessoas vivessem.]
Apollos went to the Jewish meeting place, and he told the people there very confidently the things that he had learned. When Priscilla and Aquila heard what Apollos taught, they invited him [to their home]. There they explained more accurately to him the way [that] God [gives people eternal life].
27 Quando Apolo resolveu ir à [província ]de Acaia, os cristãos em Éfeso afirmaram que seria uma boa ideia. Portanto eles escreveram uma carta aos cristãos [em Acaia, ]pedindo que eles acolhessem Apolo. [Assim, Apolo embarcou num navio e viajou até Corinto. ]Ao chegar [a Corinto, ]ele ajudou grandemente aqueles que [Deus–]fazendo por eles o que nem mereciam–tinha capacitado a crerem [em Jesus. ]
When Apollos decided that he would like to go to Achaia [province], the believers in Ephesus told him that it would be good for him to do that. So they wrote a letter to the believers [in Achaia saying that they] should welcome Apollos. [So Apollos got on a ship to go to Corinth]. After he arrived, he greatly helped those whom [God] had kindly enabled to believe [in Jesus].
28 Apolo argumentava com vigor em público [com os líderes dos ]judeus enquanto muitas outras pessoas o ouviam. [Citando ]das Escrituras, ele lhes provou que Jesus era de fato o Messias.
Apollos was vigorously arguing publicly with [the leaders of] the Jews while many other people listened. [By quoting] from the Scriptures, he proved to people that Jesus was the Messiah.
