Romanos 13
1 Toda pessoa esteja sujeita às autoridades superiores, porque não há autoridade que não seja da parte de Deus; e as que existem são ordenadas por Deus.
Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers: for there is no power but of God; and the [powers] that be are ordained of God.
2 Por isso, quem se opõe à autoridade resiste à ordem de Deus; e os que lhe resistem trarão a si mesmos condenação.
Therefore he that resisteth the power, withstandeth the ordinance of God: and they that withstand shall receive to themselves judgment.
3 Pois os que possuem autoridade não causam temor à boa obra, mas sim, ao mal. Queres tu não ter medo de autoridade? Faz o bem, e dela receberás elogio,
For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And wouldest thou have no fear of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from the same:
4 porque ela é serva de Deus para o teu bem. Porém, se fizeres o mal, teme; porque ela não traz a espada em vão. Pois é serva de Deus, vingadora, para castigar a quem faz o mal.
for he is a minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil.
5 Portanto, é necessário estar sujeito não somente por causa do castigo, mas também por causa da consciência.
Wherefore [ye] must needs be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
6 Por isso também pagais impostos; porque são servidores de Deus, atendendo a essa função.
For for this cause ye pay tribute also; for they are ministers of God’s service, attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Dai a cada um o que deveis; a quem imposto, imposto; a quem taxa, taxa; a quem temor, temor; a quem honra, honra.
Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute [is due]; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
8 A ninguém devais coisa alguma, a não ser o amor uns aos outros, pois quem ama o outro tem cumprido a Lei.
Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loveth his neighbor hath fulfilled the law.
9 Porque estes [mandamentos]: não adulterarás, não matarás, não roubarás, não cobiçarás; e qualquer outro mandamento que há, nesta frase se resumem: “Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo”.
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
10 O amor não faz mal ao próximo. Assim, o cumprimento da Lei é o amor.
Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: love therefore is the fulfilment of the law.
11 Além disso, conheceis o tempo, que já é hora de despertardes do sono, porque a salvação está agora mais perto de nós do que quando começamos a crer.
And this, knowing the season, that already it is time for you to awake out of sleep: for now is salvation nearer to us than when we [first] believed.
12 A noite está se acabando, e o dia, chegando. Deixemos, pois, as obras das trevas, e vistamo-nos das armas da luz.
The night is far spent, and the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
13 Andemos de maneira decente, como de dia; não em orgias e bebedeiras; não em pecados sexuais ou depravações; não em brigas, nem em inveja.
Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy.
14 Em vez disso, revesti-vos do Senhor Jesus Cristo, e não fiqueis pensando em [realizar] os desejos da carne.
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].
