Juízes 11
1 Existia então Jefté, gileadita, homem valente, filho de uma prostituta, ao qual havia gerado Gileade.
Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he was the son of a prostitute. And Gilead became the father of Jephthah.
2 E a mulher de Gileade também lhe havia dado à luz filhos; os quais quando foram grandes, lançaram fora a Jefté, dizendo-lhe: Não herdarás na casa de nosso pai, porque és bastardo.
Gilead's wife bore him sons; and when his wife's sons grew up, they drove out Jephthah, and said to him, "You shall not inherit in our father's house; for you are the son of another woman."
3 Fugindo, pois, Jefté por causa de seus irmãos, habitou em terra de Tobe; e juntaram-se com ele homens ociosos, os quais com ele saíam.
Then Jephthah fled from his brothers, and lived in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him.
4 E aconteceu que depois de dias os filhos de Amom fizeram guerra contra Israel:
It happened after a while, that the people of Ammon made war against Israel.
5 E quando os filhos de Amom tinham guerra contra Israel, os anciãos de Gileade foram para fazer voltar a Jefté da terra de Tobe;
It was so, that when the people of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah out of the land of Tob;
6 E disseram a Jefté: Vem, e serás nosso capitão, para que lutemos com os filhos de Amom.
and they said to Jephthah, "Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the people of Ammon."
7 E Jefté respondeu aos anciãos de Gileade: Não me odiastes, e me lançastes da casa de meu pai? por que pois vindes agora a mim quando estais em aflição?
And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, "Did you not hate me, and drive me out of my father's house, and sent me away from you? And why have you come to me now when you are in distress?"
8 E os anciãos de Gileade responderam a Jefté: Por esta mesma causa voltamos agora a ti, para que venhas conosco, e lutes contra os filhos de Amom, e nos sejas cabeça a todos os que moramos em Gileade.
The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, "Not so. We have turned to you now, that you may go with us, and fight with the people of Ammon; and you shall be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead."
9 Jefté então disse aos anciãos de Gileade: Se me fazeis voltar para que lute contra os filhos de Amom, e o SENHOR os entregar diante de mim, serei eu vossa cabeça?
Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, "If you bring me home again to fight with the people of Ammon, and the LORD delivers them before me, shall I be your head?"
10 E os anciãos de Gileade responderam a Jefté: O SENHOR ouça entre nós, se não fizermos como tu dizes.
The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, "The LORD shall be witness between us; surely according to your word so will we do."
11 Então Jefté veio com os anciãos de Gileade, e o povo o elegeu por seu cabeça e príncipe; e Jefté falou todas seus palavras diante do SENHOR em Mispá.
Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them. And Jephthah spoke all his words before the LORD in Mizpah.
12 E enviou Jefté embaixadores ao rei dos amonitas, dizendo: Que tens tu comigo que vieste a mim para fazer guerra em minha terra?
Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the people of Ammon, saying, "What have you to do with me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?"
13 E o rei dos amonitas respondeu aos embaixadores de Jefté: Porquanto Israel tomou minha terra, quando subiu do Egito, desde Arnom até Jaboque e o Jordão; portanto, devolve-as agora em paz.
And the king of the people of Ammon answered the messengers of Jephthah, "Because Israel took away my land, when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and to the Jordan. Now therefore restore it peaceably, and I will depart."
14 E Jefté voltou a enviar outros embaixadores ao rei dos amonitas,
And the messengers returned to Jephthah, and Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the people of Ammon;
15 Para dizer-lhe: Jefté disse assim: Israel não tomou terra de Moabe, nem terra dos filhos de Amom:
and he said to him, "Thus says Jephthah: 'Israel did not take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the people of Ammon,
16 Mas subindo Israel do Egito, andou pelo deserto até o mar Vermelho, e chegou a Cades.
but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh;
17 Então Israel enviou embaixadores ao rei de Edom, dizendo: Eu te rogo que me deixes passar por tua terra. Mas o rei de Edom não os escutou. Enviou também ao rei de Moabe; o qual tampouco quis: ficou, portanto, Israel em Cades.
then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, 'Please let me pass through your land.' But the king of Edom did not listen. In the same way, he sent to the king of Moab; but he would not. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.
18 Depois, indo pelo deserto, rodeou a terra de Edom e a terra de Moabe, e vindo pelo lado oriental da terra de Moabe, assentou seu acampamento de outra parte de Arnom, e não entraram pelo termo de Moabe: porque Arnom é termo de Moabe.
Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they camped on the other side of the Arnon; but they did not come within the territory of Moab, for the Arnon was the boundary of Moab.
19 E enviou Israel embaixadores a Seom rei pelos amorreus, rei de Hesbom, dizendo-lhe: Rogo-te que me deixes passar por tua terra até meu lugar.
Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, "Please let me pass through your land to our land.'
20 Mas Seom não confiou em Israel para dar-lhe passagem por seu termo; antes juntando Seom toda sua gente, pôs acampamento em Jaza, e lutou contra Israel.
But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and camped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21 Porém o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, entregou Seom e todo o seu povo na mão de Israel, e os derrotou; e Israel tomou posse de toda a terra dos amorreus que habitavam naquela terra.
The LORD, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they struck them. So Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
22 Possuíram também todo aquele termo dos amorreus desde Arnom até Jaboque, e desde o deserto até o Jordão.
They possessed all the territory of the Amorites, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and from the wilderness even to the Jordan.
23 Assim que o SENHOR o Deus de Israel expulsou os amorreus diante de seu povo Israel: e o hás de possuir tu?
So now the LORD, the God of Israel, has driven out the Amorites from before his people Israel, and should you possess them?
24 Se Camos teu Deus te expulsasse algum, não o possuirias tu? Assim nós possuiremos a tudo aquilo que o SENHOR expulsou nosso Deus de diante de nós.
Won't you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whoever the LORD our God has driven out from before us, we will possess.
25 És tu agora em algo melhor que Balaque filho de Zipor, rei de Moabe? Teve ele questão contra Israel, ou fez guerra contra eles?
And now are you anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever contend against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?
26 Quando Israel esteve habitando por trezentos anos a Hesbom e suas aldeias, a Aroer e suas aldeias, e todas as cidades que estão aos termos de Arnom, por que não as reclamaste nesse tempo?
While Israel lived in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of the Arnon, three hundred years; why did you not liberate them within that time?
27 Assim que, eu nada pequei contra ti, mas tu fazes mal comigo fazendo-me guerra: o SENHOR, que é o juiz, julgue hoje entre os filhos de Israel e os filhos de Amom.
I therefore have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong by making war against me. The LORD, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the people of Ammon."
28 Mas o rei dos filhos de Amom não atendeu os argumentos de Jefté que lhe enviou.
However the king of the people of Ammon did not listen to the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
29 E o espírito do SENHOR foi sobre Jefté: e passou por Gileade e Manassés; e dali passou a Mispá de Gileade; e de Mispá de Gileade passou aos filhos de Amom.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came on Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the people of Ammon.
30 E Jefté fez voto ao SENHOR, dizendo: Se entregares aos amonitas em minhas mãos,
Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, and said, "If you will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hand,
31 Qualquer um que me sair a receber das portas de minha casa, quando voltar dos amonitas em paz, será do SENHOR, e lhe oferecerei em holocausto.
then it shall be that whatever comes forth from the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, it shall be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering."
32 Passou, pois, Jefté aos filhos de Amom para lutar contra eles; e o SENHOR os entregou em sua mão.
So Jephthah passed over to the people of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hand.
33 E os feriu de grandíssimo dano desde Aroer até chegar a Minite, vinte cidades; e até a Abel-Queramim. Assim foram dominados os amonitas diante dos filhos de Israel.
He struck them from Aroer until you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to Abel Keramim, with a very great slaughter. So the people of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
34 E voltando Jefté a Mispá à sua casa, eis que sua filha lhe saiu a receber com adufes e danças, e era a única, a única sua; não tinha além dela outro filho nem filha.
Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house; and look, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances: and she was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter.
35 E quando ele a viu, rompeu suas roupas dizendo: Ai, filha minha! De verdade me abateste, e tu és dos que me afligem: porque eu abri minha boca ao SENHOR, e não poderei retratar-me.
And it happened, when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, "Alas, my daughter. You have brought me very low. You have become a stumbling block in my sight. And you are among those who trouble me. For I have given my word to the LORD, and I can't break it."
36 Ela então lhe respondeu: Pai meu, se abriste tua boca ao SENHOR, faze de mim como saiu de tua boca, pois que o SENHOR fez vingança em teus inimigos os filhos de Amom.
She said to him, "My father, since you have given your word to the LORD; do to me as you promised, because the LORD has taken vengeance for you on your enemies, even on the people of Ammon."
37 E voltou a dizer a seu pai: Faze-me isto: deixa-me por dois meses que vá e desça pelos montes, e chore minha virgindade, eu e minhas companheiras.
She said to her father, "Let this thing be done for me: leave me alone two months, that I may depart and go down on the mountains, and weep because of my virginity, I and my companions."
38 Ele então disse: Vai. E deixou-a por dois meses. E ela foi com suas companheiras, e chorou sua virgindade pelos montes.
He said, "Go." He sent her away for two months: and she departed, she and her companions, and wept because of her virginity on the mountains.
39 Passados os dois meses, voltou a seu pai, e fez dela conforme seu voto que havia feito. E ela nunca conheceu homem.
It happened at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, who did with her according to what he had vowed. And she was a virgin. It became a custom in Israel,
40 De aqui foi o costume em Israel que de ano em ano iam as virgens de Israel a lamentar à filha de Jefté gileadita, quatro dias no ano.
that the daughters of Israel went yearly four days in a year to commemorate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite.
