Josué 8
1 E o SENHOR disse a Josué: Não temas, nem desmaies; toma contigo toda a gente de guerra, e levanta-te e sobe a Ai. Olha, eu entreguei em tua mão ao rei de Ai, e a seu povo, a sua cidade, e a sua terra.
And the LORD said to Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
2 E farás a Ai e a seu rei como fizeste a Jericó e a seu rei: somente que seus despojos e seus animais tomareis para vós. Porás, pois, emboscadas à cidade detrás dela.
And thou shalt do to Ai and its king as thou didst to Jericho and its king: only its spoil, and its cattle, shall ye take for a prey to yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.
3 E levantou-se Josué, e toda a gente de guerra, para subir contra Ai: e escolheu Josué trinta mil homens fortes, os quais enviou de noite.
So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.
4 E mandou-lhes, dizendo: Olhai, poreis emboscada à cidade detrás dela: não vos afastareis muito da cidade, e estareis todos prontos.
And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:
5 E eu, e todo aquele povo que está comigo, nos aproximaremos da cidade; e quando saírem eles contra nós, como fizeram antes, fugiremos diante deles.
And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach to the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,
6 E eles sairão atrás de nós, até que os tiremos da cidade; porque eles dirão: Fogem de nós como a primeira vez. Fugiremos, pois, diante deles.
(For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: therefore we will flee before them.
7 Então vós vos levantareis da emboscada, e vos lançareis sobre a cidade; pois o SENHOR vosso Deus a entregará em vossas mãos.
Then ye shall rise from the ambush, and seize upon the city: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 E quando a houverdes tomado, poreis fogo nela. Fareis conforme a palavra do SENHOR. Olhai que vos o mandei.
And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the LORD shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.
9 Então Josué os enviou; e eles se foram à emboscada, e puseram-se entre Betel e Ai, ao ocidente de Ai: e Josué ficou aquela noite em meio do povo.
Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10 E levantando-se Josué muito de manhã, revistou ao povo, e subiu ele, com os anciãos de Israel, diante do povo contra Ai.
And Joshua rose early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
11 E toda a gente de guerra que com ele estava, subiu, e aproximou-se, e chegaram diante da cidade, e assentaram o campo à parte do norte de Ai: e o vale estava entre ele e Ai.
And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew near, and came before the city, and encamped on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.
12 E tomou como cinco mil homens, e os pôs em emboscada entre Betel e Ai, à parte ocidental da cidade.
And he took about five thousand men, and set them to lie in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
13 E o povo, todo aquele acampamento que estava à parte do norte da cidade, colocado já próximo, e sua emboscada ao ocidente da cidade, veio Josué aquela noite ao meio do vale.
And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their ones lying in ambush on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 O qual quando o rei de Ai viu, levantou-se prontamente de manhã, e saiu com a gente da cidade contra Israel, ele e todo seu povo, para combater pela planície ao tempo assinalado, não sabendo que lhe estava posta emboscada atrás da cidade.
And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he knew not that there were liers in ambush against him behind the city.
15 Então Josué e todo Israel, fazendo-se de vencidos, fugiram diante deles pelo caminho do deserto.
And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 E todo aquele povo que estava em Ai se juntou para segui-los: e seguiram a Josué, sendo assim tirados da cidade.
And all the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue them: and they pursued Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17 E não ficou homem em Ai e Betel, que não tivesse saído atrás de Israel; e por perseguir a Israel deixaram a cidade aberta.
And there was not a man left in Ai or Bethel, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued Israel.
18 Então o SENHOR disse a Josué: Levanta a lança que tens em tua mão até Ai, porque eu a entregarei em tua mão. E Josué levantou até a cidade a lança que em sua mão tinha.
And the LORD said to Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thy hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that he had in his hand toward the city.
19 E levantando-se prontamente de seu lugar os que estavam na emboscada, correram logo que ele levantou sua mão, e vieram à cidade, e a tomaram, e apressaram-se a por-lhe fogo.
And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand: and they entered into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.
20 E quando os da cidade olharam atrás, observaram, e eis que a fumaça da cidade que subia ao céu, e não puderam fugir nem a uma parte nem à outra: e o povo que ia fugindo até o deserto, se voltou contra os que o seguiam.
And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
21 Josué e todo Israel, vendo que os da emboscada tomaram a cidade, e que a fumaça da cidade subia, voltaram, e feriram aos de Ai.
And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.
22 E os outros saíram da cidade a seu encontro: e assim foram cercados em meio de Israel, os uns da uma parte, e os outros da outra. E os feriram até que não restou nenhum deles que escapasse.
And the other issued out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23 E tomaram vivo ao rei de Ai, e trouxeram-lhe a Josué.
And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 E quando os israelitas acabaram de matar a todos os moradores de Ai no campo, no deserto, onde eles os haviam perseguido, e que todos haviam caído a fio de espada até serem consumidos, todos os israelitas se voltaram a Ai, e também a feriram à espada.
And it came to pass, when Israel had finished slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they chased them, and when they had all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned to Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
25 E o número dos que caíram aquele dia, homens e mulheres, foi doze mil, todos os de Ai.
And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
26 E Josué não retraiu sua mão que havia estendido com a lança, até que destruiu a todos os moradores de Ai.
For Joshua drew not his hand back, with which he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Porém os israelitas tomaram para si os animais e os despojos da cidade, conforme a palavra do SENHOR que ele havia mandado a Josué.
Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey to themselves, according to the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.
28 E Josué queimou a Ai e reduziu-a a um amontoado perpétuo, assolado até hoje.
And Joshua burnt Ai, and made it an heap for ever, even a desolation to this day.
29 Mas ao rei de Ai enforcou de um madeiro até à tarde: e quando o sol se pôs, mandou Josué que tirassem do madeiro seu corpo, e o lançassem à porta da cidade: e levantaram sobre ele um grande amontoado de pedras, até hoje.
And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his body down from the tree, and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raise over it a great heap of stones, that remaineth to this day.
30 Então Josué edificou um altar ao SENHOR Deus de Israel no monte de Ebal,
Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal,
31 Como Moisés, servo do SENHOR, o havia mandado aos filhos de Israel, como está escrito no livro da lei de Moisés, um altar de pedras inteiras sobre as quais ninguém levantou ferro: e ofereceram sobre ele holocaustos ao SENHOR, e sacrificaram ofertas pacíficas.
As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lifted up any iron: and they offered on it burnt offerings to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32 Também escreveu ali em pedras a repetição da lei de Moisés, a qual ele havia escrito diante dos filhos de Israel.
And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
33 E todo Israel, e seus anciãos, oficiais, e juízes, estavam da uma e da outra parte junto à arca, diante dos sacerdotes levitas que levam a arca do pacto do SENHOR; tanto estrangeiros como naturais, a metade deles estava até o monte de Gerizim, e a outra metade até o monte de Ebal; da maneira que Moisés, servo do SENHOR, havia lhe mandado antes, para que abençoassem primeiramente ao povo de Israel.
And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them opposite mount Gerizim, and half of them opposite mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.
34 Depois disto, leu todas as palavras da lei, as bênçãos e as maldições, conforme tudo o que está escrito no livro da lei.
And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35 Não houve palavra alguma de todas as coisas que mandou Moisés, que Josué não fizesse ler diante de toda a congregação de Israel, mulheres e meninos, e estrangeiros que andavam entre eles.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.
