1 Sabes tu o tempo em que as cabras montesas dão filhotes? Ou observaste tu as cervas quando em trabalho de parto?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 Contaste os meses que elas cumprem, e sabes o tempo de seu parto?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 Quando se encurvam, produzem seus filhos, [e] lançam de si suas dores.
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 Seus filhos se fortalecem, crescem como o trigo; saem, e nunca mais voltam a elas.
Their young ones are become strong, they grow strong with grain; they go forth, and return not to them.
5 Quem despediu livre ao asno montês? E quem ao asno selvagem soltou das ataduras?
Who hath sent out the wild donkey free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild donkey?
6 Ao qual eu dei a terra desabitada por casa, e a terra salgada por suas moradas.
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 Ele zomba do tumulto da cidade; não ouve os gritos do condutor.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 A extensão dos montes é seu pasto; e busca tudo o que é verde.
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 Por acaso o boi selvagem quererá te servir, ou ficará junto de tua manjedoura?
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 Ou amarrarás ao boi selvagem com sua corda para o arado? Ou lavrará ele aos campos atrás de ti?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 Confiarás nele, por ser grande sua força, e deixarás que ele faça teu trabalho?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12 Porás tua confiança nele, para que ele colha tua semente, e a junte em tua eira?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
13 As asas da avestruz batem alegremente, mas são suas asas e penas como as da cegonha?
Gavest thou the goodly wings to the peacocks? or wings and feathers to the ostrich?
14 Ela deixa seus ovos na terra, e os esquenta no chão,
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in the dust,
15 E se esquece de que pés podem os pisar, e os animais do campo [podem] os esmagar.
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 Age duramente para com seus filhos, como se não fossem seus, sem temer que seu trabalho tenha sido em vão.
She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
17 Porque Deus a privou de sabedoria, e não lhe repartiu entendimento.
Because God hath withheld wisdom from her, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 Porém quando se levanta para correr, zomba do cavalo e do seu cavaleiro.
When she lifteth herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 És tu que dás força ao cavalo, ou que vestes seu pescoço com crina?
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 Podes tu o espantar como a um gafanhoto? O sopro de suas narinas é terrível.
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21 Ele escarva a terra, alegra-se de sua força, [e] sai ao encontro das armas;
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 Ele zomba do medo, e não se espanta; nem volta para trás por causa da espada.
He mocketh at fear, and is not dismayed; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 Contra ele rangem a aljava, o ferro brilhante da lança e do dardo;
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 Sacudido-se com furor, ele escarva a terra; ele não fica parado ao som da trombeta.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25 Ao som das trombetas diz: Eia! E desde longe cheira a batalha, o grito dos capitães, e o barulho.
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 Por acaso é por tua inteligência que o gavião voa, [e] estende suas asas para o sul?
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27 Ou é por tua ordem que a água voa alto e põe seu ninho na altura?
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 Nas penhas ela mora e habita; no cume das penhas, e em lugares seguros.
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 Desde ali espia a comida; seus olhos avistam de longe.
From there she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
30 Seus filhotes sugam sangue; e onde houver cadáveres, ali ela está.
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
