Ester 6
1 Naquela noite o rei perdeu o sono. Então ele mandou trazer o livro das memórias das crônicas: e elas foram lidas na presença do rei.
That night the king passed without sleep, and he commanded the histories and chronicles of former times to be brought him. And when they were reading them before him,
2 E achou-se escrito que Mardoqueu havia denunciado Bigtã e de Teres, dois eunucos do rei, da guarda da porta, que tinham procurado matar o rei Assuero.
They came to that place where it was written, how Mardochai had discovered the treason of Bagathan and Thares the eunuchs, who sought to kill king Assuerus.
3 Então o rei disse: Que honra e que condecoração se fez a Mardoqueu por isto? E os servos do rei que o serviam disseram: Nada foi feito com ele.
And when the king heard this, he said: What honour and reward hath Mardochai received for this fidelity? His servants and ministers said to him: He hath received no reward at all.
4 Então o rei disse: Quem está no pátio? (Pois Hamã tinha vindo ao pátio de fora da casa do rei, para dizer ao rei que enforcassem a Mardoqueu na forca que tinha preparado para ele).
And the king said immediately: Who is in the court? for Aman was coming in to the inner court of the king’s house, to speak to the king, that he might order Mardochai to be hanged upon the gibbet which was prepared for him.
5 E os servos do rei lhe responderam: Eis que Hamã está no pátio. E o rei mandou que ele entrasse.
The servants answered: Aman standeth in the court, and the king said: Let him come in.
6 Quando Hamã entrou, o rei lhe perguntou: Que se fará ao homem a quem rei deseja honrar? Então Hamã pensou em seu coração: A quem o rei desejará mais dar honra que a mim?
And when he was come in, he said to him: What ought to be done to the man whom the king is desirous to honour? But Aman thinking in his heart, and supposing that the king would honour no other but himself,
7 Por isso Hamã respondeu ao rei: Ao homem a quem o rei deseja honrar,
Answered: The man whom the king desireth to honour,
8 Tragam o vestido real de que o rei costuma se vestir, o cavalo em que o rei costuma cavalgar, e ponha-se a coroa real sobre sua cabeça.
Ought to be clothed with the king’s apparel, and to be set upon the horse that the king rideth upon, and to have the royal crown upon his head,
9 E entregue-se o vestido e o cavalo na mão de um dos mais importantes príncipes do rei, e vistam a tal homem a quem o rei deseja honrar, e levem-no a cavalo pelas ruas da cidade, e proclamem diante dele: Assim se fará ao homem a quem o rei deseja honrar!
And let the first of the king’s princes and nobles hold his horse, and going through the street of the city, proclaim before him and say: Thus shall he be honoured, whom the king hath a mind to honour.
10 Então o rei disse a Hamã: Apressa-te, toma o vestido e o cavalo, como disseste, e faze assim para com o judeu Mardoqueu, que se senta à porta do rei; não omitas coisa alguma de tudo quanto disseste.
And the king said to him: Make haste and take the robe and the horse, and do as thou hast spoken to Mardochai the Jew, who sitteth before the gates of the palace. Beware thou pass over any of those things which thou hast spoken.
11 E Hamã tomou o vestido e o cavalo, e vestiu a Mardoqueu; e o levou a cavalo pelas ruas da cidade, e proclamou diante dele: Assim se fará ao homem a quem o rei deseja honrar!
So Aman took the robe and the horse, and arraying Mardochai in the street of the city, and setting him on the horse, went before him, and proclaimed: This honour is he worthy of, whom the king hath a mind to honour.
12 Depois disto Mardoqueu voltou à porta do rei. Porém Hamã se retirou correndo para sua casa, aborrecido, e com sua cabeça coberta.
But Mardochai returned to the palace gate: and Aman made haste to go to his house, mourning and having his head covered:
13 E Hamã contou a sua mulher Zeres e a todos seus amigos tudo o que tinha lhe acontecido; então seus sábios e sua mulher Zeres lhe disseram: Se Mardoqueu, diante de quem começaste a cair, é da semente dos judeus, tu não prevalecerás contra ele; ao contrário, certamente cairás diante dele.
And he told Zares his wife, and his friends, all that had befallen him. And the wise men whom he had in counsel, and his wife answered him: If Mardochai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou canst not resist him, but thou shalt fall in his sight.
14 Enquanto eles ainda estavam falando com ele, os eunucos do rei chegaram, apressados, para levarem Hamã ao banquete que Ester havia preparado.
As they were yet speaking, the king’s eunuchs came, and compelled him to go quickly to the banquet which the queen had prepared.
