Atos 19
1 E enquanto Apolo estava em Corinto, aconteceu que, tendo Paulo passado por todas as regiões altas, ele veio a Éfeso; e achando [ali] alguns discípulos,
And it came to pass while Apollos was at Corinth, for Paul, having passed through the upper regions, to come to Ephesus. And having found some disciples,
2 Disse-lhes: Vós [já] recebestes o Espírito Santo [desde que] crestes? E eles lhe disseram: Nós nem tínhamos ouvido falar que havia Espírito Santo.
he said to them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said to him, But we have not even heard if there is a Holy Spirit.
3 E ele lhes disse: Em que vós fostes batizados? E eles disseram: No batismo de João.
And he said to them, Into what then were ye immersed? And they said, Into John's immersion.
4 Então Paulo disse: João verdadeiramente batizou [com] o batismo do arrependimento, dizendo ao povo que cressem naquele que viria após ele, isto é, em Jesus Cristo.
And Paul said, John indeed immersed an immersion of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus, the Christ.
5 Ao ouvirem [isto], eles foram batizados no nome do Senhor Jesus.
And when they heard this, they were immersed in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 E Paulo, impondo-lhes as mãos, veio sobre eles o Espírito Santo; e falavam em línguas, e profetizavam.
And Paul having laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues, and prophesied.
7 E todos os homens eram cerca de doze.
And all the men were about twelve.
8 E ele, entrando na sinagoga, falava ousadamente durante três meses, disputando e persuadindo as coisas do Reino de Deus.
And after entering into the synagogue, he spoke boldly for three months, discoursing and persuading the things about the kingdom of God.
9 Mas quando alguns se endureceram, e não creram, e falando mal do Caminho diante da multidão, ele se desviou deles; e separou aos discípulos, disputando a cada dia na escola de um certo Tirano.
But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, having withdrawn from them, he separated the disciples, discoursing daily in the school of a certain Tyrannus.
10 E isto aconteceu durante dois anos; de tal maneira que todos os que habitavam na Ásia tinham ouvido a palavra do Senhor Jesus, tanto judeus como gregos.
And this happened for two years, so as for all those dwelling in Asia to hear the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
11 E Deus fazia milagres extraordinários pelas mãos de Paulo,
And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul,
12 De tal maneira que até os lenços e aventais de seu corpo eram levados aos enfermos, e as doenças os deixavam, e os espíritos malignos saíam deles.
so as to even bring handkerchiefs or aprons from his skin to those who were incapacitated and to free their infirmities from them, and the evil spirits to go out from them.
13 E alguns exorcistas dos judeus, itinerantes, tentaram invocar o nome do Senhor Jesus sobre os que tinham espíritos malignos, dizendo: Nós vos repreendemos por Jesus, a quem Paulo prega.
But some of the wandering Jewish exorcists, attempted to name the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had the evil spirits, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul proclaims.
14 E eram sete filhos de Ceva, judeu, chefe dos sacerdotes, os que faziam isto.
And there were some sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, seven doing this.
15 Mas o espírito maligno respondeu: Eu conheço Jesus, e sei quem é Paulo; mas vós, quem sois?
And having answered, the evil spirit said, I know Jesus and I recognize Paul, but who are ye?
16 E o homem em quem estava o espírito maligno saltou sobre eles, e dominando-os, foi mais forte do que eles; de tal maneira que eles fugiram nus e feridos daquela casa.
And the man in whom was the evil spirit, leaping on them, and having overpowered them, he prevailed against them, so as for them to flee out of that house naked and wounded.
17 E isto se fez conhecido a todos que habitavam em Éfeso, tanto a judeus como a gregos; e caiu temor sobre todos eles; e [assim] foi engrandecido o nome do Senhor Jesus.
And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, to those who dwell at Ephesus. And fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
18 E muitos dos que criam vinham, confessando e declararando as suas atitudes.
And many of those who have believed came, confessing, and reporting their practices.
19 Também muitos dos que praticavam ocultismo trouxeram seus livros, e [os] queimaram na presença de todos; e calcularam o preço deles, e acharam que [custavam] cinquenta mil [moedas] de prata.
And a considerable number of those who practiced magical things, having brought their books together, burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 Assim a palavra do Senhor crescia e prevalecia poderosamente.
Thus the word of the Lord was growing mightily and was prevailing.
21 E quando se cumpriram estas coisas, Paulo propôs em espírito que, passando pela Macedônia e Acaia, ir até Jerusalém, dizendo: Depois de eu estar lá, também tenho que ver Roma.
Now when these things were fulfilled, Paul decided in the spirit, after passing through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, having said, After becoming there, I must also see Rome.
22 E ele, tendo enviado à Macedônia dois daqueles que o serviam, Timóteo e Erasto, ele ficou por [algum] tempo na Ásia.
And having sent into Macedonia two of those who help him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.
23 Mas naquele tempo aconteceu um não pequeno alvoroço quanto ao Caminho.
And about that time there developed no small stir about the Way.
24 Porque um certo artífice de prata, de nome Demétrio, que fazia objetos de prata para o templo de Diana, e dava não pouco lucro aos artesãos.
For a certain silversmith named Demetrius who makes silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little work to the craftsmen,
25 Aos quais, tendo os reunido com os trabalhadores de semelhantes coisas, disse: Homens, vós sabeis que deste ofício temos nossa prosperidade.
to whom also (having assembled the workmen about such things) he said, Men, ye know that our prosperity is from this work.
26 E vós estais vendo e ouvindo que este Paulo, não somente em Éfeso, mas até quase em toda a Ásia, tem persuadido e apartado uma grande multidão, dizendo que não são deuses os que são feitos com as mãos.
And ye see and hear, that not only at Ephesus, but almost in all Asia, this man Paul, having persuaded them, turned away a considerable multitude, saying that there are no gods made by hands.
27 E não somente há perigo de que isto torne [nosso] ofício em desprezo, mas também que [até] o tempo da grande deusa Diana seja considerado inútil, e que a grandiosidade dela, a quem toda a Ásia e o mundo venera, venha a ser destruída.
And not only is this our part liable to come into disrepute, but also the temple of the great goddess Artemis is going to be regarded for nothing, and also her magnificence be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship.
28 E eles, ao ouvirem [estas coisas], encheram-se de ira, e clamaram, dizendo: Grande é a Diana dos efésios!
And when they heard this, having become full of wrath, they cried out, saying, The great Artemis of Ephesians.
29 E toda a cidade se encheu de tumulto, e em concordância eles invadiram ao teatro, tomando consigo Gaio e Aristarco, macedônios, companheiros de Paulo na viagem.
And the whole city was filled with the confusion. And they rushed with one accord into the theatre, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, traveling companions of Paul.
30 E Paulo, querendo comparecer diante do povo, os discípulos não o permitiram.
And when Paul wanted to enter in to the crowd, the disciples did not let him.
31 E também alguns dos líderes da Ásia, que eram amigos dele, enviaram-lhe [aviso], rogando[-lhe] para que não se apresentasse no teatro.
And also some of the Asian officers, being their friends, having sent to him, implored him not to give himself into the theatre.
32 Então gritavam, [alguns de uma maneira], outros de outra; porque a aglomeração estava confusa; e a maioria não sabia por que causa estavam aglomerados.
Indeed therefore some cried out one thing, some another, for the assembly was confused, and most had not seen why they had come together.
33 E tiraram da multidão a Alexandre, os judeus o pondo para a frente. E Alexandre, acenando com a mão, queria [se] defender ao povo.
And they urged forward Alexander out of the multitude, having put him forward from the Jews. And Alexander having waved his hand, wanted to make a defense to the crowd.
34 Mas ao saberem que ele era judeu, levantou-se uma voz de todos, clamando por cerca de duas horas: Grande é a Diana dos efésios!
But after recognizing that he was a Jew, one voice developed from them all, crying out for about two hours, The great Artemis of Ephesians.
35 E o escrivão, tendo apaziguado a multidão, disse: Homens efésios, quem não sabe que a cidade dos efésios é a guardadora do templo da grande deusa Diana, e da [imagem] que desceu do céu?
And when the town clerk calmed the multitude, he says, Ephesian men, now who is the man who does not know the city of the Ephesians being temple-guardian of the great goddess Artemis, and of what fell from Zeus?
36 Portanto, sendo que estas coisas não podem ser contraditas, vós deveis vos acalmar, e nada façais precipitadamente;
Therefore these things being undeniable, ye ought to be restrained, and do nothing rash.
37 Porque vós trouxestes [aqui] estes homens, que nem são sacrílegos, nem blasfemam de vossa deusa.
For ye brought these men, who are neither sacrilegious nor blaspheming your goddess.
38 Então se Demétrio e os artesãos que estão com ele tem algum assunto contra ele, os tribunais estão abertos, e há procônsules; que se acusem uns aos outros.
Indeed therefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen with him, have a matter against any man, forums are brought, and there are proconsuls. Let them accuse each other.
39 E se procurais alguma outra coisa, será decidido em uma reunião legalizada.
And if ye seek anything about other things, it will be decided in the assembly within law.
40 Porque corremos perigo de que hoje sejamos acusados de rebelião, tendo causa nenhuma para dar como explicação para este tumulto.
For we are also in danger to be accused about the uproar today, there being no cause about which we can give account of this commotion.
41 E tendo dito isto, despediu o ajuntamento.
And having said these things, he dismissed the assembly.
