Lucas 14
1 Aconteceu num sábado que, entrando ele em casa de um dos principais dos fariseus para comer pão, eles o estavam espiando.
And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath, that they watched him.
2 E eis que estava ali adiante dele um certo homem hidrópico.
And behold, there was a certain man before him who had the dropsy.
3 E, Jesus, tomando a palavra, falou aos doutores da lei, e aos fariseus, dizendo: É lícito curar no sábado?
And Jesus answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath?
4 Eles, porém, calaram-se. E, tomando-o, ele o curou e despediu.
And they held their peace. And he took [him] and healed him, and let him go;
5 E, respondendo-lhes, disse: Qual será de vós o que, caindo-lhe num poço, em dia de sábado, o jumento ou o boi, o não tire logo?
And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not forthwith pull him out on the sabbath?
6 E nada lhe podiam replicar a estas coisas.
And they could not answer him again to these things.
7 E disse aos convidados uma parábola, reparando como escolhiam os primeiros assentos, dizendo-lhes:
And he put forth a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying to them,
8 Quando por alguém fores convidado às bodas, não te assentes no primeiro lugar, não aconteça que esteja convidado outro mais digno do que tu;
When thou art invited by any [man] to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room, lest a more honorable man than thou be invited by him;
9 E, vindo o que te convidou a ti e a ele, te diga: Dá o lugar e este; e então, com vergonha, tenhas de tomar o derradeiro lugar.
And he that invited thee and him, shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
10 Mas, quando fores convidado, vai, e assenta-te no derradeiro lugar, para que, quando vier o que te convidou, te diga: Amigo, sobe mais para cima. Então terás honra diante dos que estiverem contigo à mesa.
But when thou art invited, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honor in the presence of them that sit at table with thee.
11 Porque qualquer que a si mesmo se exaltar será humilhado, e aquele que a si mesmo se humilhar será exaltado.
For whoever exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
12 E dizia também ao que o tinha convidado: Quando deres um jantar, ou uma ceia, não chames os teus amigos, nem os teus irmãos, nem os teus parentes, nem vizinhos ricos, para que não suceda que também eles te tornem a convidar, e te seja isso recompensado.
Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor [thy] rich neighbors; lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee.
13 Mas, quando fizeres convite, chama os pobres, aleijados, mancos e cegos,
But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
14 E serás bem-aventurado; porquanto não tem com que to recompensar; porque recompensado te será na ressurreição dos justos.
And thou shalt be blessed: for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
15 E, ouvindo isto um dos que estavam com ele à mesa, disse-lhe: bem-aventurado aquele que comer pão no reino de Deus.
And when one of them that sat at table with him heard these things, he said to him, Blessed [is] he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
16 Porém ele lhe disse: Um certo homem fez uma grande ceia, e convidou a muitos.
Then said he to him, A certain man made a great supper, and invited many:
17 E à hora da ceia mandou o seu servo a dizer aos convidados: Vinde, que já tudo está preparado.
And sent his servant at supper-time, to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready.
18 E todos à uma começaram a escusar-se. Disse-lhe o primeiro: Comprei um campo, e importa ir vê-lo: rogo-te que me hajas por escusado.
And they all with one [consent] began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
19 E outro disse: Comprei cinco juntas de bois, e vou a experimenta-los: rogo-te que me hajas por escusado.
And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
20 E outro disse: Casei, e portanto não posso ir.
And another said, I have married a wife: and therefore I cannot come.
21 E, voltando aquele servo, anunciou estas coisas ao seu senhor. Então o pai de família, indignado, disse ao seu servo: sai depressa pelas ruas e bairros da cidade, e traze aqui os pobres, e aleijados, e mancos e cegos.
So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22 E disse o servo: Senhor, feito está como mandaste; e ainda há lugar.
And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
23 E disse o senhor ao servo: sai pelos caminhos e valados, e força-os a entrar para que a minha casa se encha.
And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel [them] to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 Porque eu vos digo que nenhum daqueles varões que foram convidados provará a minha ceia.
For I say to you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste my supper.
25 Ora ia com ele uma grande multidão; e, voltando-se, disse-lhe:
And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said to them,
26 Se alguém vier a mim, e não aborrecer a seu pai, e mãe, e mulher, e filhos, e irmãos, e irmãs, e ainda também a sua própria vida, não pode ser meu discípulo.
If any [man] cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 E qualquer que não levar a sua cruz, e não vier após mim, não pode ser meu discípulo.
And whoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 Pois qual de vós, querendo edificar uma torre, não se assenta primeiro a fazer as contas dos gastos, para ver se tem com que a acabar?
For which of you intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath [sufficient] to finish [it]?
29 Para que não aconteça que, depois de haver posto o alicerce, e não a podendo acabar, todos os que a virem comecem a escarnecer dele,
Lest perhaps after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish [it], all that behold [it] begin to mock him,
30 Dizendo: Este homem começou a edificar e não pôde acabar.
Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Ou qual é o rei que, indo à guerra a pelejar contra outro rei, não se assenta primeiro a consultar se com dez mil pode sair ao encontro do que vem contra ele com vinte mil?
Or what king going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Doutra maneira, estando o outro ainda longe, manda-lhe embaixadores, e pede condições de paz.
Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an embassy, and desireth conditions of peace.
33 Assim, pois, qualquer de vós, que não renuncia a tudo quanto tem, não pode ser meu discípulo.
So likewise, whoever he is of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34 Bom é o sal; porém, se o sal degenerar, com que se adubará?
Salt [is] good: but if the salt hath lost its savor, with what shall it be seasoned?
35 Nem presta para a terra, nem para o monturo; lançam-no fora. Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.
It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, [but] men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
