Jeremias 6

1 Fugi em tropas, filhos de Benjamin, do meio de Jerusalém; e tocai a buzina em Tekoa, e levantai o facho sobre Beth-accerem: porque da banda do norte aparece um mal e um grande quebrantamento.

Strengthen yourselves, you children of Benjamin, [to flee] out of the midst of Jerusalem, and sound an alarm with the trumpet in Thecue, and set up a signal over Baethacharma: for evil threatens from the north, and a great destruction is coming.

2 A uma mulher formosa e delicada assimilhei a filha de Sião.

And [your] pride, O daughter of Sion, shall be taken away.

3 Mas a ela virão pastores com os seus rebanhos; levantarão contra ela tendas em redor, e cada um apascentará no seu lugar.

The shepherds and their flocks shall come to her; and they shall pitch [their] tents against her round about, and shall feed [their flocks] each with his hand.

4 Preparai a guerra contra ela, levantai-vos, e subamos ao pino do meio dia: ai de nós! que já declinou o dia, que já se vão estendendo as sombras da tarde.

Prepare yourselves for war against her; rise up, and let us go up against her at noon. Woe to us! for the day has gone down, for the shadows of the day fail.

5 Levantai-vos, e subamos de noite, e destruamos os seus palácios.

Rise, and let us go up against her by night, and destroy her foundations.

6 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: cortai árvores, e levantai tranqueiras contra Jerusalém; esta é a cidade que há de ser visitada, mera opressão há no meio dela.

For thus says the Lord, Hew down her trees, array a numerous force against Jerusalem. O false city; [there is] all oppression in her.

7 Como a fonte produz as suas águas, assim ela produz a sua malícia: violência e estrago se ouvem nela; enfermidade e feridas há diante de mim continuadamente.

As a cistern cools water, so her wickedness cools her, ungodliness and misery shall be heard in her, [as] continually before her.

8 Corrige-te, ó Jerusalém, para que a minha alma não se aparte de ti, para que não te torne em assolação e terra não habitada.

You shall be chastened, O Jerusalem, with pain and the scourge, lest my soul depart from you; lest I make you a desert land, which shall not be inhabited.

9 Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Diligentemente rabiscarão os resíduos de Israel com a vinha: torna a tua mão, como o vindimador, aos cestos.

For thus says the Lord, Glean, glean thoroughly as a vine the remnant of Israel: turn back [your hands] as a grape-gatherer to his basket.

10 A quem falarei e testemunharei, que ouça? eis que os seus ouvidos estão incircuncisos, e já não podem escutar; eis que a palavra do Senhor lhes é coisa vergonhosa, e já não gostam dela

To whom shall I speak, and testify, that he may listen? behold, your ears are uncircumcised, and they shall not be able to hear: behold, the word of the Lord is become to them a reproach, they will not at all desire it.

11 Pelo que já estou cheio do furor do Senhor, e cançado de o conter: derrama-lo-ei sobre os meninos pelas ruas, e sobre o ajuntamento dos mancebos juntamente; porque até o marido com a mulher serão presos, e o velho com o que está cheio de dias

And I allowed my wrath to come to full, yet I kept [it] in, and did not utterly destroy them: I will pour it out on the children without, and on the assembly of young men together: for man and woman shall be taken together, the old man with him that is full of days.

12 E as suas casas passarão a outros, herdades e mulheres juntamente: porque estenderei a minha mão contra os habitantes desta terra, diz o Senhor.

And their houses shall be turned to others, [with] their fields and their wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of this land, says the Lord.

13 Porque desde o menor deles até ao maior deles, cada um se dá à avareza; e desde o profeta até ao sacerdote, cada um usa de falsidade.

For from the least of them even to the greatest they have all committed iniquity; from the priest even to the false prophet they have all wrought falsely.

14 E curam o quebrantamento da filha do meu povo levianamente, dizendo: Paz, paz; e não há paz.

And they healed the breach of my people [imperfectly], making light [of it], and saying, Peace, peace, and where is peace?

15 Porventura envergonham-se de fazerem abominação? antes de maneira nenhuma são envergonhados, nem tão pouco sabem que coisa é envergonhar-se; portanto cairão entre os que caem; no tempo da sua visitação tropeçarão, diz o Senhor.

They were ashamed because they failed; yet they were not ashamed as those who are [truly] ashamed, and they knew not their own disgrace: therefore shall they [utterly] fall when they do fall, and in the time of visitation shall they perish, said the Lord.

16 Assim diz o Senhor: Ponde-vos nos caminhos, e vede, e perguntai pelas veredas antigas, qual seja o bom caminho, e andai por ele; e achareis descanço para a vossa alma: e dizem: Não andaremos por ele.

Thus says the Lord, Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths of the Lord; and see what is the good way, and walk in it, and you shall find purification for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [in them].

17 Também pus atalaias sobre vós, dizendo: estai atentos à voz da buzina: e dizem: Não escutaremos.

I have set watchmen over you, [saying], Hear you the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hear [it].

18 Portanto ouvi, vós, nações; e informa-te tu, ó congregação, do que se faz entre eles

Therefore have the nations heard, and they that feed their flocks.

19 Ouve tu, ó terra! Eis que eu trarei mal sobre este povo, a saber, o fruto dos seus pensamentos; porque não estão atentos às minhas palavras, e rejeitam a minha lei

Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evils upon this people, [even] the fruit of their rebellions; for they have not heeded my words, and they have rejected my law.

20 Para que pois me virá o incenso de Saba e a melhor cana aromática de terras remotas? vossos holocaustos não me agradam, nem me são suaves os vossos sacrifícios.

Therefore do you bring me frankincense from Saba, and cinnamon from a land afar off? your whole burnt offerings are not acceptable, and your sacrifices have not been pleasant to me.

21 Portanto assim diz o Senhor: Eis que armarei a este povo tropeços; e tropeçarão neles pais e filhos juntamente: o vizinho e o seu companheiro; e perecerão.

Therefore thus says the Lord, Behold, I [will] bring weakness upon this people, and the fathers and sons shall be weak together; the neighbor and his friend shall perish.

22 Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que um povo vem da terra do norte, e uma grande nação se levantará das bandas da terra.

Thus says the Lord, Behold, a people comes from the north, and nations shall be stirred up from the end of the earth.

23 Arco e lança trarão, cruéis são, e não usarão de misericórdia, a sua voz rugirá como o mar, e em cavalos irão montados, dispostos como homens de guerra contra ti, ó filha de Sião

They shall lay hold on bow and spear; [the people] is fierce, and will have no mercy; their voice is as the roaring sea; they shall array themselves for war against you as fire on horses and chariots, O daughter of Sion.

24 Já ouvimos a sua fama, afrouxaram-se as nossas mãos; já angústia nos tomou, e dores como da mulher que está de parto.

We have heard the report of them: our hands are weakened: anguish has seized us, the pangs as of a woman in travail.

25 Não saias ao campo, nem andeis pelo caminho; porque espada do inimigo e espanto há ao redor.

Go not forth into the field, and walk not in the ways; for the sword of the enemy lingers round about.

26 Ó filha do meu povo, cinge-te de saco, e revolve-te na cinza: pranteia como por um filho único, pranto de amarguras; porque presto virá o destruidor sobre nós.

O daughter of my people, gird yourself with sackcloth: sprinkle [yourself] with ashes; make for yourself pitiable lamentation, [as] the mourning for a beloved [son]: for misery will come suddenly upon you.

27 Por torre de guarda te pus entre o meu povo, por fortaleza, para que soubesses e examinasses o seu caminho.

I have caused you to be tried among tried nations, and you shall know me when I have tried their way.

28 Todos eles são os mais rebeldes; que andam murmurando; são duros como bronze e ferro; todos eles andam corruptamente.

[They are] all disobedient, walking perversely: [they are] brass and iron; they are all corrupted.

29 Já o fole se queimou, o chumbo se consumiu com o fogo: em vão fundiu o fundidor tão diligentemente, pois os maus não são arrancados.

The bellows have failed from the fire, the lead has failed: the silversmith works at his trade in vain; their wickedness is not consumed.

30 Prata rejeitada lhes chamarão, porque o Senhor os rejeitou.

Call you them reprobate silver, because the Lord has rejected them.
