Jeremias 24

1 Fêz-me o Senhor ver, e eis aqui dois cestos de figos, postos diante do templo do Senhor, depois que Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, levou em cativeiro a Jechonias, filho de Joaquim, rei de Judá, e os príncipes de Judá, e os carpinteiros, e os ferreiros de Jerusalém, e os trouxe a Babilônia.

The Lord shewed me, and beholde, two baskets of figges were set before the Temple of the Lord, after that Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel had caryed away captiue Ieconiah ye sonne of Iehoiakim King of Iudah, and the princes of Iudah with the workemen, and cunning men of Ierusalem, and had brought them to Babel.

2 Um cesto tinha figos muito bons, como os figos temporãos; porém o outro cesto tinha figos muito maus, que não se podiam comer, de maus que eram.

One basket had verie good figges, euen like the figges that are first ripe: and the other basket had verie naughtie figges, which could not be eaten, they were so euill.

3 E disse-me o Senhor: Que vês tu, Jeremias? E eu disse: Figos: os figos bons, muito bons, e os maus, muito maus, que não se podem comer, de maus que são.

Then saide the Lord vnto mee, What seest thou, Ieremiah? And I said, Figges: ye good figges verie good, and the naughtie verie naughtie, which cannot be eaten, they are so euill.

4 Então veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

Againe the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,

5 Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: Como a estes bons figos, assim também conhecerei aos de Judá, levados em cativeiro; os quais enviei deste lugar para a terra dos caldeus, para o seu bem.

Thus sayeth the Lord, the God of Israel, Like these good figges, so will I knowe them that are caryed away captiue of Iudah to bee good, whome I haue sent out of this place, into the land of the Caldeans.

6 Porei os meus olhos sobre eles, para o seu bem, e os voltarei a esta terra, e edifica-los-ei, e não os destruirei; e planta-los-ei, e não os arrancarei.

For I wil set mine eyes vpon them for good, and I will bring them againe to this lande, and I will build them, and not destroy them, and I will plant them, and not roote them out,

7 E dar-lhes-ei coração para que me conheçam, porque eu sou o Senhor; e ser-me-ão por povo, e eu lhes serei por Deus; porque se converterão a mim de todo o seu coração.

And I will giue them an heart to knowe me, that I am the Lord, and they shalbe my people, and I wil be their God: for they shall returne vnto mee with their whole heart.

8 E como os figos maus, que se não podem comer, de maus que são (porque assim diz o Senhor), assim usarei com Zedekias, rei de Judá, e com os seus príncipes, e com o resto de Jerusalém, que ficou de resto nesta terra, e com os que habitam na terra do Egito.

And as the naughtie figges which can not bee eaten, they are so euill (surely thus saith the Lord) so wil I giue Zedekiah the King of Iudah, and his princes, and the residue of Ierusalem, that remaine in this lande, and them that dwell in the lande of Egypt:

9 E entrega-los-ei para que sejam um terror, para mal a todos os reinos da terra, para o opróbrio e por provérbio, e para escarneio, e por maldição em todos os lugares para onde os arrojei.

I will euen giue them for a terrible plague to all the kingdomes of the earth, and for a reproche, and for a prouerbe, for a common talke, and for a curse, in all places where I shall cast them.

10 E enviarei entre eles a espada, a fome, e a peste, até que se consumam de sobre a terra que lhes dei a eles e a seus pais.

And I will sende the sworde, the famine, and the pestilence among them, till they bee consumed out of the land, that I gaue vnto them and to their fathers.
