2 Samuel 1

1 E sucedeu, depois da morte de Saul, voltando David da derrota dos amalequitas, e ficando David dois dias em Siclag,

It happened after the death of Saul, that David returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and he stayed two days in Ziklag.

2 Sucedeu ao terceiro dia que eis que um homem veio do arraial de Saul com os vestidos rotos e com terra sobre a cabeça; e, sucedeu que chegando ele a David, se lançou no chão, e se inclinou.

It happened on the third day, that, look, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn and dirt on his head. And it came about when he came to David that he fell to the ground and paid homage.

3 E David lhe disse: de onde vens? E ele lhe disse: Escapei do exército de Israel.

David said to him, "Where do you come from?" He said to him, "I have escaped out of the camp of Israel."

4 E disse-lhe David: Como foi lá isso? peço-te, dize-mo. E ele lhe respondeu: O povo fugiu da batalha, e muitos do povo cairam, e morreram, assim como também Saul e Jonathan, seu filho, foram mortos.

David said to him, "How did it go? Please tell me." He answered, "The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also."

5 E disse David ao mancebo que lhe trazia as novas: Como sabes tu que Saul e Jonathan, seu filho, são mortos?

David said to the young man who had told him this, "How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?"

6 Então disse o mancebo que lhe dava a notícia: Cheguei por acaso à montanha de Gilboa, e eis que Saul estava encostado sobre a sua lança, e eis que carros e capitães de cavalaria apertavam com ele.

The young man who told him said, "I happened to be on Mount Gilboa and saw Saul leaning on his spear. And look, the chariots and the horsemen were closing in on him.

7 E, olhando ele para traz de si, viu-me a mim, e chamou-me; e eu disse: Eis-me aqui.

When he looked behind him, he saw me, and called to me. I answered, 'Here I am.'

8 E ele me disse: Quem és tu? E eu lhe disse: Sou amalekita.

He said to me, 'Who are you?' I answered him, 'I am an Amalekite.'

9 Então ele me disse: Peço-te, arremessa-te sobre mim, e mata-me, porque angústias me tem cercado, pois toda a minha vida está ainda em mim.

He said to me, 'Please stand beside me, and kill me; for anguish has taken hold of me, yet there is life in me still.'

10 Arremessei-me pois sobre ele, e o matei, porque bem sabia eu que não viveria depois da sua queda, e tomei a coroa que tinha na cabeça, e a manilha que trazia no braço, e as trouxe aqui a meu senhor.

So I stood beside him, and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. Then I took the crown that was on his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord."

11 Então apanhou David os seus vestidos, e os rasgou, como também todos os homens que estavam com ele.

Then David grabbed his clothes and tore them, and all the men with him did the same.

12 E prantearam, e choraram, e jejuaram até à tarde por Saul, e por Jonathan, seu filho, e pelo povo do Senhor, e pela casa de Israel, porque tinham caído à espada.

They mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of YHWH, and for the house of Israel; because they had fallen by the sword.

13 Disse então David ao mancebo que lhe trouxera a nova: de onde és tu? E disse ele: Sou filho de um homem estrangeiro, amalekita.

David said to the young man who had told him, "Where are you from?" He answered, "I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite."

14 E David lhe disse: Como não temeste tu estender a mão para matares ao ungido do Senhor?

David said to him, "How is it that you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy YHWH's anointed?"

15 Então chamou David a um dos mancebos, e disse: Chega, e lança-te sobre ele. E ele o feriu, e morreu.

David called one of the young men, and said, "Go near, and fall on him." He struck him, so that he died.

16 E disse-lhe David: O teu sangue seja sobre a tua cabeça, porque a tua própria boca testificou contra ti, dizendo: Eu matei o ungido do Senhor.

David said to him, "Your blood is on your head, for your mouth has testified against you, saying, 'I have killed YHWH's anointed.'"

17 E lamentou David a Saul e a Jonathan, seu filho, com esta lamentação,

And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son,

18 Dizendo ele que ensinassem aos filhos de Judá o uso do arco: Eis que está escrito no livro do reto:

and said it should be taught to the people of Judah. Look, it is written in the book of Jashar.

19 Ah, ornamento de Israel! nos teus altos fui ferido: como cairam os valentes!

"Your glory, Israel, is slain on your high places. How the mighty have fallen.

20 Não o noticieis em Gath, não o publiqueis nas ruas de Escalon, para que não se alegrem as filhas dos philisteus, para que não saltem de contentamento as filhas dos incircuncisos.

Do not tell it in Gath. Do not publish it in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised celebrate.

21 Vós, montes de Gilboa, nem orvalho, nem chuva caia sobre vós, nem sobre vós, campos de ofertas alçadas, pois ai desprezivelmente foi arrojado o escudo dos valentes, o escudo de Saul, como se não fôra ungido com óleo.

You mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew nor rain on you, nor fields of offerings. For there the shield of the mighty was dishonored. The shield of Saul, no longer anointed with oil.

22 Do sangue dos feridos, da gordura dos valentes, nunca se retirou para traz o arco de Jonathan, nem voltou vazia a espada de Saul.

From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, Jonathan's bow did not retreat. Saul's sword did not return empty.

23 Saul e Jonathan, tão amados e queridos na sua vida, também na sua morte se não separaram: eram mais ligeiros do que as águias, mais fortes do que os leões.

Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely, not separated. Lovely in their life, and in their death they were not separated. They were swifter than eagles. They were stronger than lions.

24 Vós, filhas de Israel, chorai por Saul, que vos vestia de escarlata em delícias, que vos fazia trazer ornamentos de ouro sobre os vossos vestidos.

You daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you luxuriously in scarlet, who put ornaments of gold on your clothing.

25 Como cairam os valentes no meio da peleja! Jonathan nos teus altos foi ferido,

How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle. Jonathan is slain on your high places.

26 Angustiado estou por ti, meu irmão Jonathan; quão amabilíssimo me eras! mais maravilhoso me era o teu amor do que o amor das mulheres.

I grieve for you, my brother Jonathan. You have been very pleasant to me. Your love for me was a wonder, more than the love of women.

27 Como cairam os valentes, e pereceram as armas de guerra!

How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished."
