Romanos 7

1 Não sabeis vós, irmãos (pois que fallo aos que sabem a lei), que a lei tem dominio sobre o homem por todo o tempo que vive?

Know all of you not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law, ) how that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?

2 Porque a mulher que está sujeita ao marido, emquanto elle viver, está-lhe ligada pela lei; porém, morto o marido, está livre da lei do marido.

For the woman which has an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he lives; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

3 De sorte que, vivendo o marido, será chamada adultera, se fôr d'outro marido; porém, morto o marido, livre está da lei, de maneira que não será adultera, se fôr d'outro marido

So then if, while her husband lives, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

4 Assim que, meus irmãos, tambem vós estaes mortos para a lei pelo corpo de Christo, para que sejaes d'outro, d'aquelle que resuscitou de entre os mortos, a fim de que demos fructo para Deus.

Wherefore, my brethren, all of you also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that all of you should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

5 Porque, quando estavamos na carne, as paixões dos peccados, que são pela lei, obravam em nossos membros para darem fructo para a morte.

For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

6 Mas agora estamos livres da lei, estando mortos para aquillo em que estavamos retidos; para que sirvamos em novidade d'espirito, e não na velhice da letra.

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, (pneuma) and not in the oldness of the letter.

7 Que diremos pois? É a lei peccado? De modo nenhum: mas eu não conheceria o peccado senão pela lei; porque eu não conheceria a concupiscencia, se a lei não dissesse: Não cubiçarás.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, You shall not covet.

8 Mas o peccado, tomando occasião pelo mandamento, obrou em mim toda a concupiscencia, porque sem a lei estava morto o peccado.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

9 E eu, n'algum tempo, vivia sem lei, mas, vindo o mandamento, reviveu o peccado, e eu morri;

For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

10 E o mandamento que era para vida esse achei que me era para morte.

And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

11 Porque o peccado, tomando occasião pelo mandamento, me enganou, e por elle me matou.

For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

12 Assim que a lei é sancta, e o mandamento sancto, justo e bom.

Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

13 Logo tornou-se-me o bom em morte? De modo nenhum; mas o peccado, para que se mostrasse peccado, operou em mim a morte pelo bem; a fim de que pelo mandamento o peccado se fizesse excessivamente peccaminoso.

Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

14 Porque bem sabemos que a lei é espiritual: mas eu sou carnal, vendido sob o peccado.

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15 Porque o que faço não o approvo; pois o que quero isso não faço, mas o que aborreço isso faço

For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16 E, se faço o que não quero, consinto com a lei, que é boa.

If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

17 De maneira que agora já não sou eu que faço isto, mas o peccado que habita em mim.

Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.

18 Porque eu sei que em mim, isto é, na minha carne, não habita bem algum: porque o querer está em mim, mas não consigo effectuar o bem

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh, ) dwells no good thing: in order to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

19 Porque não faço o bem que quero, mas o mal que não quero esse faço.

For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20 Ora, se eu faço o que não quero, já o não faço eu, mas o peccado que habita em mim.

Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.

21 De sorte que acho esta lei em mim; que, quando quero fazer o bem, o mal está comigo.

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22 Porque, segundo o homem interior, tenho prazer na lei de Deus;

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 Mas vejo nos meus membros outra lei, que batalha contra a lei do meu entendimento, e me prende debaixo da lei do peccado que está nos meus membros.

But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24 Miseravel homem que eu sou! quem me livrará do corpo d'esta morte?

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25 Dou graças a Deus por Jesus Christo nosso Senhor. Assim que eu mesmo com o entendimento sirvo á lei de Deus, mas com a carne á lei do peccado.

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
