Joel 1

1 Palavra do Senhor, que foi dirigida a Joel, filho de Pethuel.

The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

2 Ouvi isto, vós, anciãos, e escutae, todos os moradores da terra: Porventura isto aconteceu em vossos dias? ou tambem nos dias de vossos paes?

Hear this, all of you old men, and give ear, all you inhabitants of the land. Has this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

3 Fazei sobre isto uma narração a vossos filhos, e vossos filhos a seus filhos, e os filhos d'estes á outra geração.

Tell all of you your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

4 O que ficou da lagarta o comeu o gafanhoto, e o que ficou do gafanhoto o comeu a locusta, e o que ficou da locusta o comeu o pulgão.

That which the palmerworm has left has the locust eaten; and that which the locust has left has the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm has left has the caterpillar eaten.

5 Despertae-vos, bebados, e chorae e uivae, todos os que bebeis vinho, por causa do mosto, porque cortado é da vossa bocca.

Awake, all of you drunkards, and weep; and wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

6 Porque uma nação subiu sobre a minha terra, poderosa e sem numero: os seus dentes são dentes de leão, e teem queixaes de um leão velho.

For a nation has come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the cheek teeth of a great lion.

7 Fez da minha vide uma assolação, e descortiçou a minha figueira: despiu-a toda, e a lançou por terra; os seus sarmentos se embranqueceram.

He has laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he has made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

8 Lamenta como uma virgem que está cingida de sacco, pelo marido da sua mocidade.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

9 Cortou-se a offerta de manjar, e a libação da casa do Senhor: os sacerdotes, servos do Senhor, estão entristecidos.

The food offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.

10 O campo está assolado, e a terra triste; porque o trigo está destruido, o mosto se seccou, o oleo falta.

The field is wasted, the land mourns; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languishes.

11 Os lavradores se envergonham, os vinhateiros uivam, sobre o trigo e sobre a cevada; porque a sega do campo pereceu.

Be all of you ashamed, O all of you husbandmen; wail, O all of you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

12 A vide se seccou, a figueira se murchou; a romeira, tambem, e a palmeira e a macieira; todas as arvores do campo se seccaram, e a alegria se seccou entre os filhos dos homens.

The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languishes; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

13 Cingi-vos e lamentae-vos, sacerdotes; uivae, ministros do altar; entrae e passae, vestidos de saccos, a noite, ministros do meu Deus; porque a offerta de manjares, e a libação, affastada está da casa de vosso Deus.

Gird yourselves, and lament, all of you priests: wail, all of you ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, all of you ministers of my God: for the food offering and the drink offering is withheld from the house of your God.

14 Sanctificae um jejum, apregoae um dia de prohibição, congregae os anciãos, e todos os moradores d'esta terra, na casa do Senhor vosso Deus, e clamae ao Senhor.

Sanctify all of you a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

15 Ah! aquelle dia! porque o dia do Senhor está perto, e virá como uma assolação do Todo-poderoso.

Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

16 Porventura o mantimento não está cortado de diante de nossos olhos? a alegria e o regozijo da casa de nosso Deus?

Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17 A novidade apodreceu debaixo dos seus torrões, os celleiros foram assolados, os armazens derribados, porque se seccou o trigo.

The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

18 Como geme o gado, as manadas de vaccas estão confusas, porque não teem pasto: tambem os rebanhos de ovelhas são destruidos.

How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

19 A ti, ó Senhor clamo, porque o fogo consumiu os pastos do deserto, e a chamma abrazou todas as arvores do campo.

O LORD, to you will I cry: for the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field.

20 Tambem todas as bestas do campo bramam a ti; porque os rios de agua se seccaram, e o fogo consumiu os pastos do deserto.

The beasts of the field cry also unto you: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
