Deuteronômio 25

1 Quando houver contenda entre alguns, e vierem ao juizo, para que os julguem, ao justo justificarão, e ao injusto condemnarão.

If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, and [the judges] judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked;

2 E será que, se o injusto merecer açoites, o juiz o fará deitar, e o fará açoitar diante de si, quanto bastar pela sua injustiça, por certa conta

and it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his wickedness, by number.

3 Quarenta açoites lhe fará dar, não mais; para que, porventura, se lhe fizer dar mais açoites do que estes, teu irmão não fique envilecido aos teus olhos

Forty stripes he may give him, he shall not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

4 Não atarás a bocca ao boi, quando trilhar.

Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out [the corn].

5 Quando alguns irmãos morarem juntos, e algum d'elles morrer, e não tiver filho, então a mulher do defunto não se casará com homem estranho de fóra; seu cunhado entrará a ella, e a tomará por mulher, e fará a obrigação de cunhado para com ella.

If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no son, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.

6 E será que o primogenito que ella parir estará em nome de seu irmão defunto; para que o seu nome se não apague em Israel.

And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not blotted out of Israel.

7 Porém, se o tal homem não quizer tomar sua cunhada, subirá então sua cunhada á porta dos anciãos, e dirá: Meu cunhado recusa suscitar a seu irmão nome em Israel; não quer fazer para comigo o dever de cunhado.

And if the man like not to take his brother’s wife, then his brother’s wife shall go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto me.

8 Então os anciãos da sua cidade o chamarão, e com elle fallarão: e, se elle ficar n'isto, e disser; Não quero tomal-a;

Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand, and say, I like not to take her;

9 Então sua cunhada se chegará a elle aos olhos dos anciãos; e lhe descalçará o sapato do pé, e lhe cuspirá no rosto, e protestará, e dirá: Assim se fará ao homem que não edificar a casa de seu irmão:

then shall his brother’s wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto the man that doth not build up his brother’s house.

10 E o seu nome se chamará em Israel: A casa do descalçado.

And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.

11 Quando pelejarem dois homens, um contra o outro, e a mulher d'um chegar para livrar a seu marido da mão do que o fere, e ella estender a sua mão, e lhe pegar pelas suas vergonhas,

When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:

12 Então cortar-lhe-has a mão: não a poupará o teu olho.

then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall have no pity.

13 Na tua bolsa não terás diversos pesos, um grande e um pequeno.

Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.

14 Na tua casa não terás duas sortes d'epha, uma grande e uma pequena.

Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.

15 Peso inteiro e justo terás; epha inteira e justa terás; para que se prolonguem os teus dias na terra que te dará o Senhor teu Deus.

A perfect and just weight shalt thou have; a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

16 Porque abominação é ao Senhor teu Deus todo aquelle que faz isto, todo aquelle que fizer injustiça.

For all that do such things; [even] all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

17 Lembra-te do que te fez Amalek no caminho, quando saieis do Egypto;

Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt;

18 Como te saiu ao encontro no caminho, e te derribou na rectaguarda todos os fracos que iam após ti, estando tu cançado e afadigado; e não temeu a Deus.

how he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.

19 Será pois que, quando o Senhor teu Deus te tiver dado repouso de todos os teus inimigos em redor, na terra que o Senhor teu Deus te dará por herança, para possuil-a, então apagarás a memoria de Amalek de debaixo do céu: não te esqueças.

Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget.
