Deuteronômio 20

1 Quando saires á peleja contra teus inimigos, e vires cavallos, e carros, e povo maior em numero do que tu, d'elles não terás temor; pois o Senhor teu Deus, que te tirou da terra do Egypto, está comtigo.

When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for YHWH thy Elohim is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

2 E será que, quando vos achegardes á peleja, o sacerdote se adiantará, e fallará ao povo,

And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,

3 E dir-lhe-ha: Ouve, ó Israel, hoje vos achegaes á peleja contra os vossos inimigos: que se não amolleça o vosso coração; não temaes nem tremaes, nem vos aterroriseis diante d'elles,

And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;

4 Pois o Senhor vosso Deus é o que vae comvosco, a pelejar contra os vossos inimigos, para salvar-vos.

For YHWH your Elohim is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

5 Então os officiaes fallarão ao povo, dizendo: Qual é o homem que edificou casa nova e ainda a não consagrou? vá, e torne-se á sua casa, para que porventura não morra na peleja e algum outro a consagre.

And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

6 E qual é o homem que plantou uma vinha e ainda não logrou fructo d'ella? vá, e torne-se á sua casa, para que porventura não morra na peleja e algum outro o logre.

And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.

7 E qual é o homem que está desposado com alguma mulher e ainda a não recebeu? vá, e torne-se á sua casa, para que porventura não morra na peleja e algum outro homem a receba.

And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

8 E continuarão os officiaes a fallar ao povo, dizendo: Qual é o homem medroso e de coração timido? vá, e torne-se á sua casa, para que o coração de seus irmãos se não derreta como o seu coração.

And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.

9 E será que, quando os officiaes acabarem de fallar ao povo, então ordenarão os maioraes dos exercitos na dianteira do povo.

And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.

10 Quando te achegares a alguma cidade a combatel-a, apregoar-lhe-has a paz.

When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

11 E será que, se te responder em paz, e te abrir, todo o povo que se achar n'ella te será tributario e te servirá.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

12 Porém, se ella não fizer paz comtigo, mas antes te fizer guerra, então a sitiarás.

And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

13 E o Senhor teu Deus a dará na tua mão; e todo o macho que houver n'ella passarás ao fio da espada,

And when YHWH thy Elohim hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

14 Salvo sómente as mulheres, e as creanças, e os animaes; e tudo o que houver na cidade, todo o seu despojo, tomarás para ti; e comerás o despojo dos teus inimigos, que te deu o Senhor teu Deus.

But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which YHWH thy Elohim hath given thee.

15 Assim farás a todas as cidades que estiverem mui longe de ti, que não forem das cidades d'estas nações.

Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 Porém, das cidades d'estas nações, que o Senhor teu Deus te dá em herança, nenhuma coisa que tem folego deixarás com vida;

But of the cities of these people, which YHWH thy Elohim doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17 Antes destruil-as-has totalmente: aos hetheos, e aos amorrheos, e aos cananeos, e aos pherezeos, e aos heveos, e aos jebuseos, como te ordenou o Senhor teu Deus.

But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as YHWH thy Elohim hath commanded thee:

18 Para que vos não ensinem a fazer conforme a todas as suas abominações, que fizeram a seus deuses, e pequeis contra o Senhor vosso Deus.

That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their elohim; so should ye sin against YHWH your Elohim.

19 Quando sitiares uma cidade por muitos dias, pelejando contra ella para a tomar, não destruirás o seu arvoredo, mettendo n'elle o machado, porque d'elle comerás: pelo que o não cortarás (pois o arvoredo do campo é o mantimento do homem), para que sirva de tranqueira diante de ti

When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege:

20 Mas as arvores que souberes que não são arvores de comer, destruil-as-has e cortal-as-has: e contra a cidade que guerrear contra ti edificarás tranqueiras, até que esta seja derribada.

Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.
