Deuteronômio 19

1 Quando o Senhor teu Deus desarraigar as nações cuja terra te dará o Senhor teu Deus, e tu as possuires, e morares nas suas cidades e nas suas casas;

When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;

2 Tres cidades separarás no meio da tua terra que te dará o Senhor teu Deus para a possuir.

Thou shalt set apart three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

3 Preparar-te-has o caminho; e os termos da tua terra, que te fará possuir o Senhor teu Deus, partirás em tres: e isto será para que todo o homicida se acolha ali.

Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the bounds of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee there.

4 E este é o caso tocante ao homicida, que se acolher ali, para que viva: aquelle que por erro ferir o seu proximo, a quem não aborrecia d'antes:

And this is the case of the slayer, who shall flee there, that he may live: Whoever killeth his neighbour unintentionally, whom he hated not in time past;

5 Como aquelle que entrar com o seu proximo no bosque, para cortar lenha, e, pondo força na sua mão com o machado para cortar a arvore, o ferro saltar do cabo e ferir o seu proximo, e morrer, o tal se acolherá a uma d'estas cidades, e viverá:

As when a man goeth into the forest with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand maketh a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and falleth upon his neighbour, that he dieth; he shall flee to one of these cities, and live:

6 Para que o vingador do sangue não vá após o homicida, quando se esquentar o seu coração, e o alcançar, por ser comprido o caminho, e lhe tire a vida; porque não é culpado de morte, pois o não aborrecia d'antes.

Lest the avenger of blood shall pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; though he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

7 Portanto te dou ordem, dizendo: Tres cidades separarás.

Therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt set apart three cities for thee.

8 E, se o Senhor teu Deus dilatar os teus termos, como jurou a teus paes, e te dér toda a terra que disse daria a teus paes

And if the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy land, as he hath sworn to thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give to thy fathers;

9 (Quando guardares todos estes mandamentos, que hoje te ordeno, para fazel-os, amando ao Senhor teu Deus e andando nos seus caminhos todos os dias), então accrescentarás outras tres cidades além d'estas tres.

If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, besides these three:

10 Para que o sangue innocente se não derrame no meio da tua terra, que o Senhor teu Deus te dá por herança, e haja sangue sobre ti

That innocent blood may not be shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.

11 Mas, havendo alguem que aborrece a seu proximo, e lhe arma ciladas, e se levanta contra elle, e o fere na vida, que morra, e se acolhe a alguma d'estas cidades,

But if any man shall hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he dieth, and he shall flee into one of these cities:

12 Então os anciãos da sua cidade mandarão, e d'ali o tirarão, e o entregarão na mão do vingador do sangue, para que morra

Then the elders of his city shall send and bring him from there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

13 O teu olho o não poupará; antes tirarás o sangue innocente de Israel, para que bem te succeda.

Thy eye shall not pity him, but thou shall remove the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may be well with thee.

14 Não mudes o limite do teu proximo, que limitaram os antigos na tua herança, que possuires na terra, que te dá o Senhor teu Deus para a possuires.

Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thy inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

15 Uma só testemunha contra ninguem se levantará por qualquer iniquidade, ou por qualquer peccado, seja qual fôr o peccado que peccasse: pela bocca de duas testemunhas, ou pela bocca de tres testemunhas, se estabelecerá o negocio.

One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

16 Quando se levantar testemunha falsa contra alguem, para testificar contra elle ácerca de desvio,

If a false witness shall rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;

17 Então aquelles dois homens, que tiverem a demanda, se apresentarão perante o Senhor, diante dos sacerdotes e dos juizes que houver n'aquelles dias;

Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, who shall be in those days;

18 E os juizes bem inquirirão; e eis que, sendo a testemunha falsa testemunha, que testificou falsidade contra seu irmão,

And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness is a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;

19 Far-lhe-heis como cuidou fazer a seu irmão: e assim tirarás o mal do meio de ti.

Then shall ye do to him, as he had thought to do to his brother: so shalt thou remove the evil from among you.

20 Para que os que ficarem o ouçam e temam, e nunca mais tornem a fazer tal mal no meio de ti.

And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

21 O teu olho não poupará: vida por vida, olho por olho, dente por dente, mão por mão, pé por pé.

And thy eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
