2 Reis 5

1 E Naaman, chefe do exercito do rei da Syria, era um grande homem diante do seu senhor, e de muito respeito; porque por elle o Senhor déra livremente aos syros: e era este varão homem valoroso, porém leproso.

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given victory unto Syria: he was also a mighty man of valour, [but he was] a leper.

2 E sairam tropas da Syria, da terra d'Israel e, levaram presa uma menina que ficou ao serviço da mulher de Naaman.

And the Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

3 E disse esta á sua senhora: Oxalá que o meu senhor estivesse diante do propheta que está em Samaria: elle o restauraria da sua lepra.

And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! then would he recover him of his leprosy.

4 Então entrou Naaman e o notificou a seu senhor, dizendo: Assim e assim fallou a menina que é da terra de Israel.

And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

5 Então disse o rei da Syria: Vae, anda, e enviarei a carta ao rei de Israel. E foi, e tomou na sua mão dez talentos de prata, e seis mil siclos de oiro e dez mudas de vestidos.

And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand [pieces] of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

6 E levou a carta ao rei de Israel, dizendo: Logo, em chegando a ti esta carta, saibas que eu te enviei Naaman, meu servo, para que o restaures da sua lepra.

And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, And now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

7 E succedeu que, lendo o rei de Israel a carta, rasgou os seus vestidos, e disse: Sou eu Deus, para matar e para vivificar, para que este envie a mim, para eu restaurar a um homem da sua lepra? Pelo que devéras notae, peço-vos, e vede que busca occasião contra mim.

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? but consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

8 Succedeu porém que, ouvindo Eliseo, homem de Deus, que o rei de Israel rasgara os seus vestidos, mandou dizer ao rei: Porque rasgaste os teus vestidos? deixa-o vir a mim, e saberá que ha propheta em Israel.

And it was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

9 Veiu pois Naaman com os seus cavallos, e com o seu carro, e parou á porta da casa de Eliseo.

So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

10 Então Eliseo lhe mandou um mensageiro, dizendo: Vae, e lava-te sete vezes no Jordão, e a tua carne te tornará, e ficarás purificado.

And Elisha sent a messenger unto him saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

11 Porém Naaman muito se indignou, e se foi dizendo: Eis que eu dizia comigo: Certamente elle sairá, pôr-se-ha em pé, e invocará o nome do Senhor seu Deus, e passará a sua mão sobre o logar, e restaurará o leproso

But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

12 Não são porventura Abana e Farfar, rios de Damasco, melhores do que todas as aguas de Israel? Não me poderia eu lavar n'elles, e ficar purificado? E voltou-se, e se foi com indignação.

Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

13 Então chegaram-se a elle os seus servos, e lhe fallaram, e disseram: Meu pae, se o propheta te dissera alguma grande coisa, porventura não a farias? Quanto mais, dizendo-te elle: Lava-te, e ficarás purificado.

And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

14 Então desceu, e mergulhou no Jordão sete vezes, conforme a palavra do homem de Deus: e a sua carne tornou, como a carne d'um menino, e ficou purificado.

Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

15 Então voltou ao homem de Deus, elle e toda a sua comitiva, e veiu, e poz-se diante d'elle, e disse: Eis que tenho conhecido que em toda a terra não ha Deus senão em Israel: agora pois te peço que tomes uma benção do teu servo

And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a present of thy servant.

16 Porém elle disse: Vive o Senhor, em cuja presença estou, que a não tomarei. E instou com elle para que a tomasse, mas elle recusou.

But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

17 E disse Naaman: Quando não, comtudo dê-se a este teu servo uma carga de terra d'um jugo de mulas; porque nunca mais offerecerá este teu servo holocausto nem sacrificio a outros deuses, senão ao Senhor.

And Naaman said, If not, yet I pray thee let there be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth; for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.

18 N'isto perdoe o Senhor a teu servo: quando meu senhor entra na casa de Rimmon para ali se encurvar, e elle se encosta na minha mão, e eu tambem me hei de encurvar na casa de Rimmon; quando assim me encurvar na casa de Rimmon, n'isto perdoe o Senhor a teu servo.

In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant; when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.

19 E elle lhe disse: Vae em paz. E foi-se d'elle a uma pequena distancia.

And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

20 Então Geazi, moço d'Eliseo, homem de Deus, disse: Eis que meu senhor impediu a este syro Naaman que da sua mão se désse alguma coisa do que trazia; porém, vive o Senhor que hei de correr atraz d'elle, e tomar d'elle alguma coisa.

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.

21 E foi Geazi em alcance de Naaman; e Naaman, vendo que corria atraz d'elle, saltou do carro a encontral-o, e disse-lhe: Vae tudo bem?

So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw one running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

22 E elle disse: Tudo vae bem; meu senhor me mandou dizer: Eis que agora mesmo vieram a mim dois mancebos dos filhos dos prophetas da montanha d'Ephraim; dá-lhes pois um talento de prata e duas mudas de vestidos.

And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raiment.

23 E disse Naaman: Sê servido tomar dois talentos. E instou com elle, e amarrou dois talentos de prata em dois saccos, com duas mudas de vestidos; e pôl-os sobre dois dos seus moços, os quaes os levaram diante d'elle.

And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raiment, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.

24 E, chegando elle á altura, tomou-os das suas mãos, e os depositou na casa: e despediu aquelles homens, e foram-se.

And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.

25 Então elle entrou, e poz-se diante de seu senhor. E disse-lhe Eliseo: D'onde vens, Geazi? E disse: Teu servo não foi nem a uma nem a outra parte.

But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.

26 Porém elle lhe disse: Porventura não foi comtigo o meu coração, quando aquelle homem voltou de sobre o seu carro, a encontrar-te? Era isto tempo para tomares prata, e para tomares vestidos, e olivaes, e vinhas, e ovelhas, e bois e servos e servas?

And he said unto him, Went not mine heart [with thee], when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep and oxen, and menservants and maidservants?

27 Portanto a lepra de Naaman se pegará a ti e á tua semente para sempre. Então saiu de diante d'elle leproso, branco como a neve.

The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper [as white] as snow.
