Hioba 35

1 Elihu mówił dalej:

Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2 Czy uważasz to za słuszne, że powiedziałeś: Mam więcej sprawiedliwości niż Bóg?

Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

3 Powiedziałeś bowiem: Cóż mi pomoże? Jaki będę miał pożytek [z tego, że zostanę] oczyszczony z grzechu?

For thou hast asked of what profit it is unto thee: what do I gain more than if I had sinned?

4 Odpowiem dowodnie tobie i twoim towarzyszom wraz z tobą.

I will reply to thee in words, and to thy companions with thee.

5 Spójrz w niebo i zobacz, przypatrz się obłokom, które są wyżej od ciebie.

Look unto the heavens and see; and survey the skies: they are higher than thou.

6 Jeśli zgrzeszysz, co zrobisz przeciwko niemu? A jeśli pomnożą się twoje nieprawości, co mu uczynisz?

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

7 Jeśli jesteś sprawiedliwy, co mu dajesz? Albo co otrzymuje z twojej ręki?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou to him? or what doth he receive of thy hand?

8 Twoja niegodziwość [zaszkodzi] człowiekowi takiemu jak ty, a twoja sprawiedliwość [pomoże] synowi człowieka.

Thy wickedness [may affect] a man as thou [art], and thy righteousness a son of man.

9 [Ludzie] krzyczą z powodu mnóstwa ucisków, wołają z powodu ramienia mocarzy.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry; they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty:

10 [Ale] nikt nie mówi: Gdzie jest Bóg, mój Stwórca, który w nocy daje pieśni;

But none saith, Where is God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night,

11 Ten, który uczy nas więcej niż zwierzęta ziemskie i czyni nas mądrzejszymi od ptactwa niebieskiego?

Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowl of the heavens?

12 Tak więc wołają, ale nikt nie wysłuchuje z powodu pychy złych ludzi.

There they cry, and he answereth not, because of the pride of evil men.

13 Doprawdy, Bóg nie wysłucha [słów] obłudy, Wszechmocny na nią nie zważa.

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 Chociaż mówisz, że go nie widzisz, sąd jest przed nim, więc mu zaufaj.

Although thou sayest thou dost not see him, judgment is before him, therefore wait for him.

15 Teraz jednak jego gniew spadł na ciebie w niewielkim stopniu, jakby nie znał wielkości twoich [grzechów].

But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, doth not [Job] know [his] great arrogancy?

16 Dlatego Hiob na próżno otwiera swe usta; mnoży słowa bez poznania.

For Job hath opened his mouth in vanity, and made words abundant without knowledge.
