Kaznodziei 2
1 Powiedziałem w sercu: Niech teraz doświadczę cię w radości, zażywaj więc przyjemności. Lecz to także jest marnością.
I said in my heart, Come now, I will prove you with mirth, and behold you good: and, behold, this is also vanity.
2 O śmiechu powiedziałem: To szaleństwo, a o radości: Co to daje?
I said to laughter, Madness: and to mirth, Why do you this:
3 Postanowiłem w sercu, [że] poddam swoje ciało winu – serce jednak kierowałem mądrością – i że będę się trzymać głupoty, aż zobaczę, co dla synów ludzkich jest dobrem spośród tego, co mają czynić pod niebem, przez wszystkie dni ich życia.
And I examined whether my heart would excite my flesh as [with] wine, (though my heart guided [me] in wisdom, ) and [I desired] to lay hold of mirth, until I should see of what kind is the good to the sons of men, which they should do under the sun all the days of their life.
4 Dokonałem wielkich dzieł, zbudowałem sobie domy, zasadziłem sobie winnice.
I enlarged my work; I built me houses; I planted me vineyards.
5 Założyłem sobie ogrody i sady i posadziłem w nich wszelkiego rodzaju drzewa owocowe.
I made me gardens and orchards, and planted in them every kind of fruit tree.
6 Zbudowałem też sobie stawy na wodę, by nawadniać nią las rosnących drzew.
I made me pools of water, to water from them the timber-bearing wood.
7 Nabyłem sługi i służące, miałem też sługi urodzone w swoim domu. Posiadałem również stada wołów i trzody owiec większe niż wszyscy, którzy byli przede mną w Jerozolimie.
I got servants and maidens, and servants were born to me in the house: also I had abundant possession of flocks and herds, beyond all who were before me in Jerusalem.
8 Zgromadziłem sobie srebro i złoto, i klejnoty królów i prowincji. Przygotowałem sobie śpiewaków i śpiewaczki, i [inne] rozkosze synów ludzkich oraz liczne instrumenty muzyczne.
Moreover I collected for myself both silver and gold also, and the peculiar treasures of kings and provinces: I procured me singing men and singing women, and delights of the sons of men, a butler and female cupbearers.
9 I tak stałem się większy i możniejszy niż wszyscy, którzy byli przede mną w Jerozolimie. W dodatku moja mądrość pozostała przy mnie.
So I became great, and advanced beyond all that were before in Jerusalem: also my wisdom was established to me.
10 Nie wzbraniałem swoim oczom niczego, czego pragnęły, nie odmawiałem swemu sercu żadnej uciechy; moje serce bowiem radowało się z całego mojego trudu. A to był mój dział za cały mój trud.
And whatever mine eyes desired, I withheld not from them, I withheld not my heart from all my mirth: for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my portion of all my labor.
11 Następnie przyjrzałem się wszystkim dziełom, jakich dokonały moje ręce, i trudowi, jaki podjąłem dla ich wykonania, a oto wszystko to marność i utrapienie ducha i nie ma żadnego pożytku pod słońcem.
And I looked on all my works which my hands had wrought, and on my labor which I laboured to perform: and behold, all was vanity and waywardness of spirit, and there is no advantage under the sun.
12 Odwróciłem się więc, aby przyjrzeć się mądrości, szaleństwu i głupocie. Co bowiem może [uczynić] człowiek, który nastąpi po królu? To, co czynili już inni.
Then I looked on to see wisdom, and madness, and folly: for who is the man who will follow after counsel, in all things where in he employs it?
13 I zobaczyłem, że mądrość jest pożyteczniejsza od głupoty, tak jak światło jest pożyteczniejsze od ciemności.
And I saw that wisdom excels folly, as much as light excels darkness.
14 Mądry ma oczy w swojej głowie, głupi zaś chodzi w ciemności. A poznałem, że ten sam los spotyka wszystkich.
The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walks in darkness: and I perceived, even I, that one event shall happen to them all.
15 Dlatego powiedziałem w sercu: Los, który spotyka głupiego, spotka również mnie. Po co więc przewyższyłem go mądrością? Wtedy powiedziałem w sercu, że to także jest marnością.
And I said in my heart, As the event of the fool is, so shall it be to me, even to me: and to what purpose have I gained wisdom? I said moreover in my heart, This is also vanity, because the fool speaks of his abundance.
16 Nie ma bowiem pamięci zarówno o mądrym, jak i o głupcu na wieki, gdyż to, co jest teraz, w najbliższych dniach pójdzie w niepamięć. A jak umiera mądry? Tak jak głupi.
For there is no remembrance of the wise man with the fool for ever; forasmuch as now [in] the coming days all things are forgotten: and how shall the wise man die with the fool?
17 Dlatego obrzydło mi życie, gdyż przykre mi są wszystkie sprawy dokonane pod słońcem. Wszystko bowiem jest marnością i utrapieniem ducha.
So I hated life; because the work that was wrought under the sun was evil before me: for all is vanity and waywardness of spirit.
18 Zbrzydł mi nawet cały mój trud, który podejmowałem pod słońcem, gdyż muszę go zostawić człowiekowi, który przyjdzie po mnie.
And I hated the whole of my labor which I took under the sun; because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.
19 A kto wie, czy będzie mądry, czy głupi? A jednak będzie władać całą moją pracą, w którą włożyłem swój trud i mądrość pod słońcem. Także i to jest marnością.
And who knows whether he will be a wise [man] or a fool? and whether he will have power over all my labor in which I laboured, and wherein I grew wise under the sun? this is also vanity.
20 Doszedłem więc do tego, że zwątpiłem w sercu w cały swój trud, jaki podjąłem pod słońcem.
so I went about to dismiss from my heart all my labor wherein I had laboured under the sun.
21 Gdyż niejeden człowiek pracuje mądrze, umiejętnie i sprawiedliwie, a swój dział pozostawia innemu, który się nim nie trudził. Także i to jest marnością i wielkim złem.
For there is [such] a man that his labor is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in fortitude; [yet] this man shall give his portion to one who has not laboured therein. This is also vanity and great evil.
22 Cóż bowiem ma człowiek z całej swojej pracy i z utrapienia swego serca, którymi się trudzi pod słońcem?
For it happens to a man in all his labor, and in the purpose of his heart wherein he labors under the sun.
23 Bo wszystkie jego dni są cierpieniem, a jego zajęcie – smutkiem; nawet w nocy jego serce nie zaznaje spokoju. Także i to jest marnością.
For all his days [are days] of sorrows, and vexation of spirit is his; in the night also his heart rests not. This is also vanity.
24 Nie ma nic lepszego dla człowieka, niż aby jadł i pił, i czynił dobrze swojej duszy przy swojej pracy. Zobaczyłem też, że pochodzi to z ręki Boga.
A man has nothing [really] good to eat, and to drink, and to show his soul [as] good in his trouble. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.
25 Kto bowiem potrafi jeść i cieszyć się tym słuszniej niż ja?
For who shall eat, or who shall drink, without him?
26 Bo człowiekowi, który mu się podoba, daje mądrość, wiedzę i radość. Ale grzesznikowi zadaje trud, aby zbierał i gromadził, i potem zostawił to temu, który się Bogu podoba. Także i to jest marnością i utrapieniem ducha.
For [God] has given to the man who is good in his sight, wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but he has given to the sinner trouble, to add and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God; for this is also vanity and waywardness of spirit.
