لوقا 14

1 یک روز شَبّات، عیسی در خانه یکی از بزرگان فریسی دعوت داشت. و آنها او را به دقت زیر نظر داشتند.

And it chaunsed that he went into the housse of one of ye chefe pharises to eate breed on a saboth daye: and they watched him.

2 در آنجا بیماری نیز حضور داشت که بدنش آب آورده و دستها و پاهایش متورم شده بود.

And beholde ther was a man before him which had the dropsye.

3 عیسی از فریسیان و علمای دین که در آنجا حضور داشتند، پرسید: «آیا طبق دستورهای تورات، می‌توان بیماری را در روز شَبّات شفا داد یا نه؟»

And Iesus answered and spake vnto the lawears and pharises sayinge: is it laufull to heale on the saboth daye?

4 ایشان پاسخی ندادند! پس عیسی بر آن بیمار دست نهاد و شفایش داد و به خانه فرستاد.

And they helde their peace. And he toke him and healed him and let him goo:

5 سپس رو به ایشان کرد و پرسید: «کدام یک از شما، در روز شَبّات کار نمی‌کند؟ آیا اگر الاغ یا گاوتان در چاه بیفتد، بی‌درنگ نمی‌روید تا بیرونش بیاورید؟»

and answered the sayinge whiche of you shall have an asse or an oxe fallen into a pitt and will not strayght waye pull him out on the Saboth daye?

6 اما ایشان جوابی نداشتند که بدهند.

And they coulde not answer him agayne to that.

7 عیسی چون دید که همهٔ مهمانان سعی می‌کنند بالای مجلس بنشینند، ایشان را چنین نصیحت کرد:

He put forthe a similitude to ye gestes whe he marked how they preased to the hyest roumes and sayd vnto the:

8 «هرگاه به جشن عروسی دعوت می‌شوید، بالای مجلس ننشینید، زیرا ممکن است مهمانی مهمتر از شما بیاید و

When thou arte bidde to a weddynge of eny man syt not doune in ye hyest roume lest a more honorable man then thou be bidden of him

9 میزبان از شما بخواهد که جایتان را به او بدهید. آنگاه باید با شرمساری برخیزید و در پایین مجلس بنشینید!

and he that bade bothe him and the come and saye to the: geve this man roume and thou then beginne with shame to take the lowest roume.

10 پس اول، پایین مجلس بنشینید تا وقتی میزبان شما را آنجا ببیند، بیاید و شما را به بالای مجلس هدایت کند. آنگاه، در حضور مهمانان سربلند خواهید شد.

But rather when thou arte bidden goo and syt in the lowest roume that when he that bade the cometh he maye saye vnto the: frende syt vp hyer. Then shalt thou have worshippe in the presence of them that syt at meate with the.

11 زیرا هر که بکوشد خود را بزرگ جلوه دهد، خوار خواهد شد، اما کسی که خود را فروتن سازد، سربلند خواهد گردید.»

For whosoever exalteth him sylfe shalbe brought lowe. And he yt hubleth him sylfe shalbe exalted

12 سپس رو به صاحب خانه کرد و گفت: «هرگاه ضیافتی ترتیب می‌دهی، دوستان و برادران و بستگان و همسایگان ثروتمند خود را دعوت نکن، چون ایشان هم در عوض، تو را دعوت خواهند کرد.

Then sayde he also to him that had desyred him to diner: When thou makest a diner or a supper: call not thy frendes nor thy brethre nether thy kinsmen nor yet ryche neghbours: lest they bidde the agayne and a recompence be made the.

13 بلکه وقتی مهمانی می‌دهی، فقیران، لنگان و شلان و نابینایان را دعوت کن.

But when thou makest afeast call the poore the maymed the lame and the blynde

14 آنگاه خدا در روز قیامت درستکاران، تو را اجر خواهد داد، زیرا کسانی را خدمت کردی که نتوانستند محبتت را جبران کنند.»

and thou shalt be happy for they cannot recompence the. But thou shalt be recompensed at the resurreccion of the iuste men.

15 یکی از آنانی که بر سر سفره نشسته بود، چون این سخنان را شنید، گفت: «خوشا به حال کسی که در ضیافت ملکوت خدا شرکت کند!»

When one of them that sate at meate also hearde that he sayde vnto him: happy is he that eateth breed in the kyngdome of God.

16 عیسی در جواب او این داستان را بیان کرد: «شخصی ضیافت مفصلی ترتیب داد و بسیاری را دعوت کرد.

Then sayd he to him. A certayne man ordened a greate supper and bade many

17 وقتی همه چیز آماده شد، خدمتکار خود را فرستاد تا به دعوت‌شدگان بگوید،”تشریف بیاورید، همه چیز آماده است.“

and sent his servaunt at supper tyme to saye to them that wer bidden come: for all thinges are now redy.

18 اما هر یک از دعوت‌شدگان به نوعی عذر و بهانه آوردند. یکی گفت که قطعه زمینی خریده است و باید برود آن را ببیند.

And they all atonce begane to make excuse. The fyrst sayd vnto him: I have bought a ferme and I must nedes goo and se it I praye the have me excused.

19 دیگری گفت که پنج جفت گاو خریده است و باید برود آنها را امتحان کند.

And another sayd: I hove bought fyve yooke of oxen and I goo to prove them I praye the have me excused.

20 یکی دیگر نیز گفت که تازه ازدواج کرده و به همین دلیل نمی‌تواند بیاید.

The thyrde sayd: I have maried a wyfe and therfore I cannot come.

21 «خدمتکار بازگشت و پاسخ دعوت‌شدگان را به اطلاع ارباب خود رسانید. ارباب به خشم آمد و به او گفت:”فوری به میدانها و کوچه‌های شهر برو و فقیران و مفلوجان و شلان و کوران را دعوت کن!“

And the servaunt went and brought his master worde therof. Then was the good man of the housse displeased and sayd to his servaut: Goo out quickly into ye stretes and quarters of the cite and bringe in hidder the poore and the maymed and the halt and the blynde.

22 وقتی این دستور اجرا شد، باز هنوز جای اضافی باقی بود.

And the servaut sayd: lorde it is done as thou comaundedst and yet ther is roume.

23 پس ارباب به خدمتکارش گفت:”حال به شاهراهها و کوره‌راهها برو و هر که را می‌بینی به اصرار بیاور تا خانه من پر شود.

And the lorde sayd to the servaunt: Go out into ye hye wayes and hedges and compell the to come in that my housse maye be filled.

24 چون از آن کسانی که دعوت کرده بودم، هیچ‌یک طعم خوراکهایی را که تدارک دیده‌ام، نخواهند چشید!“»

For I saye vnto you that none of those men which were bidde shall tast of my supper.

25 یک بار که جمعیت بزرگی به دنبال عیسی می‌رفتند، او رو به ایشان کرد و گفت:

Ther went agreate copany with him and he turned and sayde vnto them:

26 «هر که می‌خواهد پیرو من باشد، باید مرا از پدر و مادر، زن و فرزند، برادر و خواهر و حتی از جان خود نیز بیشتر دوست بدارد.

If a man come to me and hate not his father and mother and wyfe and chyldren and brethren and sisters more over and his awne lyfe he cannot be my disciple.

27 هر که صلیب خود را برندارد و از من پیروی نکند، نمی‌تواند شاگرد من باشد.

And whosoever beare not his crosse and come after me cannot be my disciple.

28 «اما پیش از آنکه در مورد پیروی از من، تصمیمی بگیرید، همه جوانب را خوب بسنجید! اگر کسی در نظر دارد ساختمانی بسازد، ابتدا مخارج آن را برآورد می‌کند تا ببیند آیا از عهده آن برمی‌آید یا نه.

Which of you disposed to bilde a toure sytteth not doune before and counteth ye cost whether he have sufficient to performe it?

29 مبادا وقتی بنیاد عمارت را گذاشت، سرمایه‌اش تمام شود و نتواند کار را تمام کند! آنگاه همه تمسخرکنان خواهند گفت:

lest after he hath layde ye foundacion and is not able to performe it all yt beholde it beginne to mocke him

30 این شخص ساختن عمارتی را شروع کرد، اما نتوانست آن را به پایان برساند!

sayinge: this man beganne to bilde and was not able to make an ende.

31 «یا فرض کنید پادشاهی می‌خواهد با پادشاه دیگری بجنگد. او ابتدا با مشاورانش مشورت می‌کند تا ببیند که آیا با یک نیروی ده هزار نفری، می‌تواند یک لشکر بیست هزار نفری را شکست بدهد یا نه.

Or what kynge goeth to make batayle agaynst another kinge and sitteth not doune fyrst and casteth in his mynde whether he be able wt ten thousande to mete him that cometh agaynst him wt. xx thousand.

32 اگر دید که قادر به این کار نیست، هنگامی که سپاه دشمن هنوز دور است، نمایندگانی را می‌فرستد تا درباره شرایط صلح مذاکره کنند.

Or els whyll ye other is yet a greate waye of he will sende embasseatours and desyre peace.

33 به همین طریق، کسی که می‌خواهد شاگرد من شود، نخست باید بنشیند و حساب کند که آیا می‌تواند به خاطر من از مال و دارایی خود چشم بپوشد یا نه.

So lykewyse none of you yt forsaketh not all yt he hath can be my disciple.

34 «نمک خوب است، اما اگر طعم و خاصیتش را از دست بدهد، چگونه می‌توان طعم و خاصیتش را به آن برگرداند؟

Salt is good but yf salt have loste hyr saltnes what shall be seasoned ther with?

35 نمک بی‌طعم و بی‌خاصیت حتی به درد کود زمین هم نمی‌خورد. فقط باید آن را دور ریخت. هر که گوش شنوا دارد، بشنود!»

It is nether good for ye londe nor yet for ye donge hill but men cast it out at ye dores. He yt hath eares to heare let him heare.
